citizenY:To start with, the heading says it all. A crap concocted to malign Igbo leadership from ancient times. A narrative riddled with malicious calumniation of Igbo race. A piece meant to demonize the Igbos and put them in a position of blame for all the ills that have befallen Nigeria. Against all storm, all hatred and all castigation we march on triumphantly, untamed and unstoppable en route to greatness. Enemies please do the needful. I guess it is time history is reintroduced in our schools for people to understand how we ended up in the pit we are in, we Igbos must accept the fact that our forebears contributed to it all. Azikiwe insisted on one Nigeria when northern leaders wanted a de-amalgamation of the country. He resisted the secession clause as proposed by Awolowo and Enahoro, Formed a government with the north instead of the west, The casualties in the 1966 coup was obviously one sided, Ironsi not executing the coup plotters, He signed into law the unitary decree, He in conjunction with Ojukwu squashed the dream of the Niger Delta republic, he equally signed the anti secession decree, Ojukwu educated enough to know the law still went ahead to seceed without adequate preparation, weapons or even allies and wasted millions of souls. Let us admit it, our forebears contributed to it all. 14 Likes |

[quote author=gidgiddy post=76448207] Nigerians eat and breathe hypocrisy. The title of this thread is How Igbo leaders caused Nigerias current national problems That is what is called Karma bro. Deal with it. They are trying to blame Igbos for Nigerians problems but an Igbo man has not led Nigeria in 52 years. They have had power for 52 years but they still blame Igbos. They said Igbos conducted a coup but these people kept conducting one coup or the other throughout the 60's,70's, 80's and 90's. Some of their own coups were far more bloody than the one they accused Igbos of. So if we blame those who laid the precedent of coup plotting will that be unreasonable? If they hadn't put the idea in the mind of the military, if they hadn't given the military sharks a taste of blood they wouldn't have gotten used to the taste of blood. Despite the struggles India has gone through politically, never once did the military step in to take control of government. So yes, we blame the first set of people who introduced military coup d'etat into Nigeria's lexicon. This post is to see where the rain started beating us. They said Ironsi introduced unitary rule, but these same people are the ones who took the 4 Regions Ironsi governed with and kept sub-dividing it until we ended up with 36 states, thereby making Nigeria far more unitary than Ironsi ever did. Ironsi was only in power for 6 months. Absolutely. The first division into states was done to end the civil war started by the Igbo. I haven't seen where the Igbo have kicked against creation of states after all you have 5 states and last I heard you guys are clamouring for a 6th for equality with the other zones. Besides how does division into states make the Nigerian entity more unitary anyway? Yorubas and Northerners have ruled for majority of the last 52 years but they have done far worse than Igbos ever did, and on top of that, they keep blaming Igbos for where Nigeria is today. So the Igbos have never taken any high political post since 1960? Lol. Lemme guess, there are no Igbo governors and legislators as we speak? You might want to check the major roles given to the Igbo in the Jonathan's government where an Igbo woman was given the post of prime minister in the government of the dull Jonathan. Go online and Google the number of Igbo who have held the leadership of the Senate since 1999. You'll see names like China Okadigbo, Evans Enwerem etc. Keep playing victim. It suits you well. People should stop this hypocrisy. People who have logs in their eye should not be calling out those with specs of wood in their own Read the post again. It is part of Nigeria's history. If you can find any wrong detail about it, show us with proof. That's all. Those who read it should judge whether the players and actors indeed have any footing today to scream and wail for a republic of their own after fighting it tenuously. Karma! 3 Likes |

Despite the struggles India has gone through politically, never once did the military step in to take control of government. So yes, we blame the first set of people who introduced military coup d'etat into Nigeria's lexicon. This post is to see where the rain started beating us. Yes it would be very unreasonable. At the time of the first coup, coups were happening all over Africa. Every country in West Africa went through military coups. It's like saying we should blame the Wright brothers, who introduced Airplanes, for all the people that have died from Airplane accidents. Or maybe we should blame Ford for all the motor accidents. Or better still, we should blame Lugard, if he didn't bring us all together in 1914, none of this would have happend. Ghana went through many coups but today Ghana is seen as the shining light of democracy and prosperity. Nobody there even remembers who conducted the first coup. You should brush up on your Nigerian history. Gowon announced the creation of 12 states long before the war started. In fact, it was this creation of states by Gowon that forced Ojukwu to declare Biafra. The reason why the creation of states makes Nigeria more unitary is that had no state been created, we would still be practicing Regionalism. People don't understand that that the existence of 4 large Regions is what keeps the Federal Government in check and makes it weak. Dividing the 4 Regions into 36 states made the Federal Government much stronger and far more unitary So the Igbos have never taken any high political post since 1960? What really matters in government is the person that controls maximum executive power at the Federal level, not who was minister or Governor or any other position. Since independence to this day, only one Igbo has been executive leader and he was there for only six months. What did those who came after him do?
The funny mentality of Nigerians. They talk about who did what 50 or 60 years ago but neglect who is doing what now. Even Buhari, who is almost in his second term is still blaming PDP for his abysmal failure 4 Likes 1 Share |

Going by some comments here, I dare say Nigeria is gone so to say. Because we don't want to here the genesis of our present predicament, we play to gallery to defend undefendable because the people mentioned are my or your people. I could still remember what I read sometimes ago what Awolowo said during his last birthday on earth; it was then I knew this one Nigeria is a joke. It is well known this man never believed on one Nigeria. He said, it is not possible for an Ogbomoso man to reason like Sokoto man. He did what humanly possible to reverse the course of Yoruba's destiny but time was already against him. I was in Kebbi State sometimes 2011,when I met a man from Plateau State, he was eulogizing Great Zik at expense of Balewa and Awolowo that it was Zik that formed one Nigeria. That Awolowo was only after his region and never cared about other regions especially north. In fact, I stopped him when every negative things were said about Awolowo, you know as a Yoruba man will not be too comfortable with those statements. Initially, our northern brothers never knew that all what Zik was doing then and Ironsi unification decree later were there favour. But alas! The chicken has come home to roost and things have fallen apart and country Nigeria is for northern Nigeria to enjoy. We southerners should stop abuse them, they were never our problems and never can they proffer solutions to Nigeria ailments. From the look of things, it is obvious that our eastern and western brothers will continue to trade blames instead of responsibilities in many years to come. Nigeria problems and solutions rest with southerners period. 3 Likes |

Ojoji: To be candid, the concept of ONE (united) Nigeria was a misnomer. It's like trying to form a united country from the major european countries like france, germany, england, spain, portugal etc. So Awolowo was right when he said an ogbomosho man can't think like a man from sokoto. Just like an nnewi man will find it difficult to reason like a man from zamfara simply because their self-identity are totally different to one another. It's truism that Awolowo didn't believe in One (united) Nigeria because he knew it just wasn't practical. Incidentally, neither did the sardunna. The latter cared more about his people than nigerians hence he opted to stay behind and manage his region than move to the centre and rule over nigerians. He sent his minion instead to the centre. Zik's belief in One Nigeria is not because he loved his fellow "nigerians" like his kith and kin in old eastern region rather it was the other way round. He believed (in his naivety) that his people will in time lord it over the rest of the components that makes up the new nation. So, in essence, what zik did and Ironsi continued was infact unwittingly in favour of the northerners. Sardunna was hell-bent that his people will not be marginalised in the new country- he would rather opt out of the union. This was the reason why Zik decided to form govt with the sardunna as a subordinate as that was the only condition upon which the latter will agree to the union. Had zik gone with Awo, the sardunna was ready and willing to leave the union with his people in tow. 5 Likes |

cute9ja: Zik, before independence and against prudent and cautionary advise and objections by the SW, they, the SE wanted one Nigerian with the North in charge and Zik the figurehead president. They of course as the usual insatiable people all of a sudden did not like that arrangement and decided to shed blood in the most brutal and sadistic manner, they slaughtered innocent Nigerians via the first ever coup in Nigeria, they literally placed us on a negative and destructive part straight from the beginning Their son Aguiyi Ironsi stepped in as the HOS, but instead of normalizing things and heal wounds across Nigeria, he did nothing to the brutal killers and coup plotters when in fact the standard punishment all over the world for such actions is death, but he did not even slap them on the wrist. After that, he abolished regional administration and introduced what we have today, the unitary system of government, the same unitary system of government that the same ibo people don't want today. And of course, the civil and destructive way spearheaded by the same ibo people. Nigeria made a terrible mistake by not letting have their biafra, it's not too late, give them their biafra because you can not satisfy them with anything and they are too self-destructive to be sane and lawful members of any society. Any form of association with them is bad business and bad luck because our state of mind, our way of life, our sense of purpose, our sense of direction and belonging are just not the same. We really must do away with their constant, needless, destructive and unproductive distractions. 4 Likes |

cute9ja: Fast forward to 2019, they are still doing the same thing. They are still in Lagos shouting no man's land and O to ge in Lagos while their towns and villages are rotting away back into the stone age. They care about governance and their money in Lagos, Osun state and other places in Nigeria than they do about their own lack of progress and development states. They still have the same ridiculous and absurd sociao cultural problems. The average person from that part of the country will demand accountability from people outside his own borders and never ask the same from his own useless and incompetent leaders. The will not ask what their own leaders are doing with their taxes and allocations, but they always want to know what your own leaders are doing with your money. The way they talk, it's always like their villages are better than Dubai while the rest of Nigeria is like gutter when in fact it's the other way around. Something is seriously wrong with them in that part of Nigeria. 7 Likes |

deomelo:Millions of Igbos are in the diaspora doing very well, not the drug mules you idiots always project on the media and are an insignificant minority that taint our collective image...but the brilliant Igbo men and women that impact the societies they live in positively. Igbo kids top almost all the Nigerian ethnic demographics for high acceptance rate into Ivy league schools all over the US(more than any ethnic group), thus assuming the model minorities status with Asian Americans trailing behind, there are thousands of internationally recognized Igbo diplomats in the dispora been elected into key positions of government and agencies, accomplished Igbos in Nigeria who excel anywhere they go, stating from literally little or nothing to building empires, go to Aba and see Igbo ingenuity and entrepreneurship despite been hampered by poor government factors, the average man on Aba is FAR MORE PRODUCTIVE THAN ANY YORUBA... I haven't even mentioned Nnewi where industrialization has taken its finest form, yet without government assistance. My point is an Igbo man when put together with an average yoruba will always come out the better man if merit was anything to reckon with, that's why we dominate you scums on your own turf, majority of your inland revenues are in the hands of Igbos, commerce on every macro to micro level has been saturated by Igbos, every damn thing we have taken over...
