A former Federal Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Olufemi Okunnu (SAN), in this interview with TOBI AWORINDE, describes Lagosians as accommodating but deserving of respect Is it true that Lagos is no man’s land? There is no place called ‘No Man’s Land’ in the world. Every parcel of land has its own history. Lagos has its own history and the original inhabitants of Lagos – the Aworis – settled over 500 years ago. I have said it many times recently that Lagos has its own indigenes. The Aworis were the first group of settlers who inhabited Lagos city and suburbs. Maybe some centuries after, there was the invasion by the Binis, the Edo-speaking people, who invaded Lagos and set up their own institutions. In fact, the obaship of Lagos has a lot to do with the Benin Kingdom. So, the Binis also invaded and settled in Lagos. Oba of Lagos is of Edo or Bini origin, not Yoruba, and all the other chiefs, who came with the first oba, that is, Ado — I am talking of a group of white-cap chiefs called Akarigbere — also are of Bini origin. |

Lol. But oduduwa is a fake story na. |
| Re: Oduduwa Was Not Igbo Prince – Oluwo Of Iwo by class0247: 11:46am On Apr 25, 2019 |
The Akarigberes include the following chiefs: Eletu Odigbo, Eletu Iwashe, Eletu Ika, Ologun Agbaje, Ologun Adodo, Eletu Awo, Ologun Agan, Ologun Atebo, Ologun Igbesodi and Ologun Ide Okoro. All these were Binis or Edo-speaking, with their families, and they settled largely in the Isale Eko, Idunmota and Idunshagbe parts of Lagos Island. When you hear of Idunmota, Idunshagbe, Idunmaigbo, Idunmagbo, etc., ‘Idun’ means area — Bini origin. They, not Yorubas, settled there. Apart from the Akarigbere class of chiefs, there were also the Abagbon class of chiefs, who came with Ado, again Binis: Ashogbon (war chiefs), Bajulaiye (‘Bazuaye’ as they call it in Benin today), Saba, Bajulu, Bashua (which is another form of ‘Bazua’). They were all Bini or Edo-speaking, not Yoruba. |

Olawalesmarter:crossriverians( who migrated from Cameroon) used to kill twins, not the igbo. We pronounce twins ibeji while igbos call it ejima in fact in Ekiti, it's called eji( removing the "ma" from the igbo word), drug as Oogun while igbo pronounce it ogwu( adding a "w" to theirs), cat- olongbo while they call their nwologbo, etc. As people migrated in those days, they mixed with people from other tribes and tongues changed with time. If you emigrate to America for instance in the present day generation, give birth there and your kids grow up there, their tongues would change completely and that's why way it happened in those days . I may reason differently but I have my points. The west keep saying Africans don't know their history simply because our leaders are fond of distorting our rich history with bias and ethnic bigotry. |

Olawalesmarter:indeed. That I'm not on same point with your distorted claims doesn't make me an igboman. I'm fullblooded yoruba and am not ashamed to say it. You keep believing in our selfish leaders who are fond of distorting history to enrich themselves, out of your own intelligence since I'm the one who is ignorant here according to you. Good luck |

When they stop teaching History in Schools, this is the types of confusion you get; but at the DNA level, Igbos and Yorubas are one and the same people. |

class0247:You done a good job, let's avoid bitterness to get the best out of it. 1) the people who invaded Ile Ife, leading to the Moremi story were called Ugbo. They were camped in a place called Oke Igbo(which still exists). From Oke Igbo, oracle led them to found a new kingdom known till today as Ugbo(Ugbo kingdom, presently having the richest king in on Nigeria, Olu-Ugbo, Obateru). It was never Igbo from the East, that's only a common error. 2) However, this is another proof that Igbo were also ancient people of Ife. The inhabitants were called Ugbo originally. So, Igbo is only a variation of same word Ugbo. 3) Olu-Ugbo was the pre oduduwa tittle of the rulers of IFE, the original dynasty displaced by oduduwa dynasty. No matter how much we hate one another, we can't hide facts forever. Call it Old Ife, NUPE, Ugbo, or even Niger Congo, it is the mother of all tribes. |

This is useless distraction to divert attention from Biafra freedom campaigns. Yoruba fight for your oduduwa, any one saying oduduwa is related to Igbo, he/she is a saboteur in fulani pay roll. Say No To distractions from warrant slaves/chiefs. Instead of these old and weak warrant chiefs/slaves join hand with Mazi Nnamdi Kanu to restore Biafra, they are there disgracing themselves.

fairfora:Oga you know nothing about yoruba history. Not all Yorubas are descendants of oduduwa. He never founded shit. As a matter of fact, his sons never did as well, they were only welcomed into some communities and made kings. Ask yourself, if they truly founded where they were crowned king, why don't we all speak the same dialect? As for those people oduduwa conquered, go and read about the ugbo people of ilaje, the descendants of obatala, then will you be enlightened. |

fairfora:Those words I believe found their ways into the igbo lexicon through the igalas who had contact with both tribes. Igbo and yoruba never had any contact in the past. Albeit, the igalas did, and the igala language can be classified as yoruboid, cause it sounds so similar to Eastern yoruba dialects. |
