The only people fighting for the Ned's children are the Northerners (and not even all of them) . Many Westerosi view Ned Stark as an usurper (he confessed to that). He died without 'honor'.
We like the Starks because we know the 'behind the scenes', the characters do not. Only the few who managed to connect the dots are reluctantly changing their POV.
Tywin on the other hand died with 'honor'. He was killed by his dwarf son who had already killed the king. The people who rejoiced at his death were those who stood to gain from a weakened House Lannister . They (eg Tyrells) knew that Kevan and Cersei couldn't fill the void.
We know the truth behind all this but once again the characters do not.
GoT mirrors real life. Those politicians we view as bad may actually be the good ones.

Couldn't have said it better.

I believe I understand what @Gbola5 is trying to say though: that Eddard Stark was a better ruler than Tywin Lannister. And to that I say, WRONG.

Tywin was a terrible man, and a seriously incompetent father. But he was an excellent ruler - as a ruler, you simply cannot afford to have a soft heart. Tywin's results speak for themselves, while Ned got himself outsmarted right under his own nose. Seriously, can you imagine Tywin being outplayed like Ned was?? That is what I mean: the smarts to be a successful ruler.

Thus my statement: I'll rather have a mixture of those two men; Ned for how he managed his home, and Tywin for how he "ruled" the Westerlands (later as Reagent to Joffrey). Ruling is an art, and in the Game of Thrones setting Tywin scores much higher than Ned in rulership.

You can't just decide when to display honour. It's a quality that comes with being an honourable person, no two ways about it.

I can't say I'm a truthful person and then proceeded to tell lies. That means I'm not a truthful person, instead I say the truth most of the times...two different things.

Ned was an honourable man. He reverberated honour. It was a way of life for him. And it was his strength, not his weakness. And his people loved him for it.

Theon won't be the only one guarding Bran, his fellow ironborns will be there with him. So he might escape with Bran while the foot soldiers ironborns get killed.

Ned was merely loved. Tywin was feared and respected. He had a formidable repute. To be a great ruler, the former qualities are what you need.

To me, Ned's death is still overrated. I never liked him from the get-go.

Btw, when will E3 be available for download?

Ned Stark was an excellent ruler in the north, where honour and honesty are rewarded with loyalty. He was a terrible ruler in the south, which is ruled by liars and backstabbers. The same attributes that helped him so much in the north led to his execution in the south.

Tywin was quite competent as a leader, but he had some glaring weaknesses that ultimately destroyed everything he worked for. His irrational hatred of Tyrion - his ideal successor. His excessive cruelty to his enemies, such as in the treatment of Elia Martell, which Cersei inherited from him. His blindness to the incest that caused so many problems for him. If there was no gold in Casterly rock, I don’t think he would've gone far.

Misogynist pig on the loose
Elderised Elder! Honestly I only pity the chaps still exchanging argumentative words with you as regards Jon being the true heir to the throne.

You know, you're Mr know-it-all and anyone not in alignment with you is a Misogynistic-hippopotamusgrin! (The word just dey sweet you since).

Truth is, for this game of thrones talks, I positively envy and appreciate chaps going back and forth over an occurrence in GOT. In the advent and exception of some occurrences that are not really clear even when you see the movie, such instances gave birth to threads like this and other numerous internet layouts to clarify ambiguous happenings.
In that case, such arguments can be very pardonable as different school of thoughts begin to fly in but then again, the true answers to this arguments are always embedded in the movie if seen with keen interest and brain fully activated.

Now Mr Elder! I am gonna reference you to the discourse between Bran and Samwell Tarly-(Samwell Tarly and Jon snow), a discourse where Jon's origin and heritage was fully revealed by Bran and how he's the true heir to the throne-S08E01.

I'm coming from this Bran angle because nobody seems to have tackled your misogyny talks from here.
So it's either Bran is a misogynistic-pig or a misogynistic-cripple or more likely, you're just outrightly plain-deluded.
The latter I suppose my mehngrin!

How I wish GOT was on Sunday morning 2am. One would just go back to bed and wake up at plus 2 extra hours to compensate for the loss rather than waking early for work.

Remember that Ned was actually against the attempted assassination of the Daenerys. Even the Drunk King knew that was necessary. Unknown to him, she was nursing a vendetta against House Stark.
"The Usurper and the Lannister and the Stark dogs" as she put it.

When you want to overthrow a great House, you do it completely, unless it comes back to haunt you (ask Houses Bolton and Frey) . Ned failed to understand the cutthroat nature of Westerosi politics. In the books, he admitted on many occasions that he was out of his depth in King's Landing.

Yeah Tywin was who he was. But he ruled with fear. I don't think anyone really loved him.. .Apart from his family.

Ned was everything you would want in a ruler...Honourable, just, loving, kind and to top it off, a manly man. His people loved him and respected him. Respect not borne out of fear. They would give their life for him without having to think twice. He was leadership made flesh.

It's just sad that he was betrayed. Betrayed by someone who he initially didn't trust until his wife told him he could.
Yes he didn't understand the politics of kings landing until it was too late. But he did what a just leader would do. It was unfortunate that Robert came back with an injury (Cercie's doing) that would take his life. If not, his plan would have worked. Sometimes you can't know what would happen in the future (Tywin knows a little about this).

I would take Ned over Tywin any day.

It could denote strong emphasis on a quality you believe can not be disputed.

It could also connote sarcasm.

Such an expression can be interpreted differently by readers.

Don't blame him, blame yourself cause your message isn't 'to the point'. You made it ambiguous!

How were both buried?
Who honored their burials?

Ned died a self confessed traitor. Tywin died fresh off saving Kings Landing from the hands of Ned's 'co-conspirator' Stannis. That's how most Westerosi remembered them. There's also there is the small matter of Ned fathering a 'bastard' while Tywin had none. Tywin never even tolerated whores. We know the last line is a lie but sadly that was the reputation both ended with.

There are so many loopholes in what you wrote that it would take only a minute for all your points to leak through.

But what I quoted from the statement you made was, 'Tywin died with 'honour'. Emphasis on died. Not buried, or remembered or who attended his wake...Died!

Such fixed mindset is the reason I don't really bother arguing online. I've given the reasons why at their death, Tywin was held in higher esteem to Ned. I've also said that Tywin was more politically astute than Ned. When it comes to personality, Ned was head and shoulders a better man (this is not even up for discussion).

Honour my foot.

Since you wish to analyze how they died let's go there.

Ned died at the hands of his daughter's fiance. The same fiance he tried to steal his kingdom. He confessed to the whole Kings Landing. By whole, I mean the high and low. The who'res, the thieves, the lords. Everybody.

He was executed in the presence of his two daughters.
After his death, his head was put on display for anyone and everyone to jeer at.

The details of Tywin's death are sketchy at best to the common people. All they know is that he was murdered by his 'Demon Monkey Son'.
