polytechnics and universities serve different purposes , and if not for the Inferiority complex amongst Nigerian students , no one is above the other , if every polytechnic is been upgraded to a university how will the students ,who wish to attend polytechnic cope , we have enough universities already , govt should work on improving the ones on ground , not creating new ones from struggling polytechnics !

If Okorocha was sincere to the people of Imo state, he would have been concerned in proper management and equipment of the existing schools. Did he try to upgrade the existing infrastructure in the school to compete with other similar school world wide? The problem is not in name but in the adequate investment. What is the ranking of the universities and polytechnics in Imo state before he became governor and what is there ranking now in Nigeria.Have the polytechnics achieved the objectives for which they were set up? We should discourage cosmetic solution like name changing, motivated by insincere politics and focus on delivering quality education to Imolites and Nigerians.

Governor Emeka Ihedioha has reversed the status of the newly converted Imo State University of Agriculture and Technology, Umuagwo, to its earlier polytechnic status.



The immediate past governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha, at the end of his administration elevated the polytechnic to a university status and appointed a Vice Chancellor.



Okorocha moved the polytechnic to Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of the state. However, in a statement issued in Owerri, the state capital by the Secretary to the state government, Uche Onyeagucha said that the governor has reversed the institution to its original status.



The governor, according to the statement has appointed an acting rector, following the retirement of Wance Madu.

The statement reads “the visitor to Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo and the Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha CON, has directed the immediate reopening of Imo State Polytechnic, Umuagwo for normal academic activities.

“Resultant upon the expiration of the tenure of the Rector who has since proceeded on terminal leave, the most senior academic staff in the Polytechnic Dr. Paddy N. Njoku is hereby appointed the Acting Rector of the Polytechnic effective from today June 10, 2019.

The Polytechnic community and all Stakeholders thereof are advised to cooperate and accord him all necessary support.”

It's like you're as stupid as your comments sound. Don't be unfortunate. Stop disgracing your entire family online defending Okorocha's idiocies. The fact that the school had been on complete lock down for months now with zero academic activities and students languishing in idleness is enough reason for the governor to reverse whatever idiotic splitting Okorocha did earlier. How can a sane person create 4 additional polytechnics from a disfunctional one? Okorocha is really sick in the head. Every well meaning Imolite is very happy with the new development, especially the students and the entire polytechnic community, at least academic activities will resume. If Okorocha meant well for Imo state why did he wait till the end of his miserable tenure before creating whatever nonsense he did?

The funny thing about the reactions in this thread is the blatant hypocrisy...

When GEJ did exactly the same thing which Rochas did (i.e. converting Polys to Unis - a.k.a name change), I'm sure most of the people blasting Rochas here were celebrating GEJ for establishing 12 new universities and calling it an achievment. Now tables have turned to someone they love to hate and they are here hailing Ihedioha.
