DEALING WITH PURPOSE OF VISIT (POV)

Sad to hear about the recent refusals based solely on purpose of visit. However Purpose of visit refusals can be tricky and sometimes can be linked with various clauses. The most popular reasons for purpose of visit refusal are down to:

1. Incoherent, poor and Vague Study plans (SOP)

2. Applying for a program that could otherwise be done locally in Nigeria.

3. VO not convinced the proposed program is of a reasonable expense.

4. Applying for a program under the same credential as your last qualification. I.e applying for another msc program or bsc program.

5. Applying for a program otherwise lower than what your previous credential qualifies you to apply for. Sometimes it's possible to get away with it but different VOs with different evaluations.

6. Applying for a program that doesn't correlate with previous work experience and education credentials. Etc....

POV refusals are tricky and can otherwise be broad. Pinpointing the exact clause is important in reapplying.

Please those already in Canada or with first hand info should help reply. Thanks
Hello Obehi, so sorry that you didn't scale through this time around.
It's my desire that it works out the next time, but pls don't rush things this time around, weigh your options carefully before reapplying.
I wish you all the best in whatever decision you take.

Thanks to all my beautiful people. I see you all. All our labour will not go unrewarded.
I really desired to go with my family cos they mean the world to me. So contrary to popular opinion that one cannot get visas for family while still in Nigeria, I decided to apply. I started preparing for the application immediately I submitted mine. First, we valued our property (about 12 million), we also booked upfront medicals. Fortunately my visa came before the date given.

So I got my study visa May 7th. And I used these documents from me:
My approval letter
My passport showing visa
My previous passport
My admission letter
Funding letter (showing I have over the required 10k cad for personal living expenses, apart from tuition)
Letter of invitation. I explained several subtopics *relationship history *why swop and visit visa for daughter (daughter is less than 2 years) *funding and budget * husband work expertise and designation *purpose of visit( to join mum for PhD)
I realised that unlike study permit application which is quite objective, sowp and family sponsorship application can be very subjective. ( I wrote the sop in a way that I appealed to the compassionate side of the VOs). I particularly capitalised on the fact that I don't want to leave my baby for 4 years + ,nor my husband.

Marriage documents:
Marriage certificate
Change of name
Newspaper publications

For my husband:
A letter of introduction introducing him and his relationship with me, his work designation ( he's an engineer). He talked a lot about his work achievements e.t.c since its a work permit application
Introduction letter from work
Appointment letter
Confirmation letter
Id card
Payslips

Hometie
Property receipts
Property document
Valuation
His Pension fund account. ( just about 1million plus)

Financial part
This was very tricky. After much deliberation. We decided to use what we have.
My husband had a million plus in his account. His father had earlier sent to him 1 million, 6 weeks before we applied. ( We explained it in our letters).
My mum gave us one of her fixed deposit monies (2 million). We included the fixed deposit certificate to show it has been fixed for 3 months and I stated in my letter the day it was terminated and sent to my account. It was sent just 2 days before I applied but I made sure I showed it has been fixed for a long time and thus, its available.
So basically our funds consisted entirely of 2 lump sums but it was explained with proof.
We included our parents ID cards , passport, sponsorship letter from them, and employment / retirement letter. We also included our birth certificatesto prove paternity.

Daughter:
Her birth certificate
Her immunization report
Little things like her church dedication certificate bearing our names.
We included photographs but vfs did not allow us to submit it. I later submitted it via webform.

We submitted May 14 exactly a week after I got my trv
May 23, medicals was passed
June 17 BVL came in for my husband
June 27 approval for them both.
My daughter was even given 5 years visa. More than my 4 years program.

I saw God's hand in this application. Honestly, I was so clueless. But, the Holy Spirit helped me every step of the way. Writing the letters, tackling the financial part e.t.c.
He made this possible.
I will like to answer questions more on the forum as suggested by Mods so everyone can learn instead of pms.
I return all glory to God o
My temporary lovestory with CIC has ended in praise

Is it true that one can get a genuine Australia or Canadian work visa from Nigeria?
Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 16 by AkeemTy(m): 12:50pm On Jul 06, 2019
If you are highly skilled or got a job offer from companies over there, then work visa is possible. Don't go and waste your money on those agents. You can apply for a work visa yourself as long you have the needed skills and job offer from an employer over there.

Bros, you can only renew your passport when it has at least 6 months to date of expiration. My time of reapplication and initial traveling schedule prompted me to opt for submitting my application with the old passport.
Thanks anyways!

This info is wrong. Before my 1st application in April, I renewed my passport which was meant to expire in August 2020 at Abuja HQs. It's only renewable at Abuja once it's not up 6months to date of expiration.

Yes I am in Fanshawe. Wassup?

Thanks bro. I am planning to apply for a PGD or PGC at fanshawe come winter 2020 but I have some concerns.

1. The school's website says that only 2300CAD is required but the agents are saying that full tuition must be paid before the school can issue a LOA. Do you have an idea of what is really required? Full tuition or the minimum deposit?

2. What's the visa success rate like to fanshawe as compared to applying to Canadian universities.

Thanks

Hello Finestlex,

Don't impose your opinion on the moniker. A 4-page SOP is just okay, for as long as its succinct and detailed.

Thanks bro. I am planning to apply for a PGD or PGC at fanshawe come winter 2020 but I have some concerns.

Thanks

(1) There are many factors. For most programs, once Fanshawe gives you an offer letter, you will be asked to make a deposit of 2300cad to validate offer within 30 days. Once you make the initial deposit, they may request you pay the balance before they give you the LOA. The conditions will be spelt out on the offer letter.

If the program is very competitive (programs such as Business Analysis, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Project management and IT programs), you will be asked to make all of 1st semester deposit before LOA is issued. The people on queue for these programs are just too much.

Also, if you apply early, you may be asked to make just the initial deposit but once too many people start applying or close to program start date, conditions will change.

(2) Your number two question, only CIC can answer that. Just apply and have faith.

P.s
For winter 2020 admission, please apply now. If your program has a co-op, please go for that. I wish you all the best.

I was denied for the same reasons.
My program starts in September,I have ordered for my Gcms note before I reapply to a different school for Winter start date.I advise you do the same.
quote author=Obehi44 post=79979769]House, the refusal came again 2nd time. First time was personal assets and financial status but now they say it's "purpose of visit"
Yesterday I mentioned a few monikers that got this bvl same time as mine came in, today I can see two out of those monikers coming to say they have been refused this evening just as I got mine this evening too.
All same reason "purpose of visit"
I can almost conclude that it was same VO that dished was in charged. Him just de bomb people email and Cic account with same reasons.
If these people have limits of people they give visa to per a period, they should just say rather than letting us go through stress and keep paying application fee.
Anyway, I will other for the gcms again, defer admission and refire again.
@Franck please my dear, can I have a one on one? Just want to ask one question please.
Thanks. [/quote]

Hey, don't quote me and say "THE INFO IS WRONG". It really takes total maturity for people not to lose their cool to faceless persons on public forums. Good Lawd! Not sure if Abuja HQs rules and regulations is different from their Ikoyi office in Lagos but what I said was totally based on first-hand info from the Comptroller General himself.

I can also recall vividly that I tried renewing mine in Dec 2018 (with passport date of expiration Jan 2020) before me and my family went on vacation overseas and I was also told by his PA that it would be renewed and I would have gotten after a few hours if it's about 6 months or less to expiration date.

I'm getting ready for church.

Do have a happy Sunday!

I'm very sorry about your refusal, bro. I love your upbeat spirit and I believe that the third time would be charm. I guess there's a career progression, right? Try to work on your SOP the very best way you can, give it to 2 or 3 persons for scrutinization (I never did this but it's advisable). Thereafter, use free online tools to check for grammatical errors or punctuation mistakes.
God bless!
.

I support this advise. There may be flaws a writer may be insensitive to, but another party could easily spot.Career progression is vital as advised, keep up that positive spirit and dont allow your mind focus on the negatives...you'll smile at last.
