MMMC is very safe now. With a compulsory 10% recommitment fee, a new policy where you can't re-PH less than you GH, the issue of "chop and run" has been completely eliminated. This apparently will ensure the system doesn't collapse in light years to come. Don't mind what people say, I'm a living testimony.

Stay with them and save at least 2 million before moving out. This will protect you against any uncertainty in life n ensure u DNT return to stay with them ever again. U need to have two sources of income before you leave

Honestly the only time u must leave ur parents house is when u want to marry? For me u should stay till then

Better continue eating your parents food and living in free accommodation.
Give your parents at least half of the money, be in their good books and keep your distance as much as possible. Keep the balance in your account. Can't advise any business with that amount make your money no go evaporate into thin air cos that amount no reach one week expense for some.
If you have just 400k and you want to use it to rent house, after renting that house your life will be miserable, so wait till you're capable of being alone.
But continue saving

Guys I need advice on what to do at this point in my life.

Got a job, in my state, place of work not far from parent's house (rented flat).

I've managed to save up to 400k so far, I've always longed to move away from my parent's house and get my own place, but they'd always kick against it, citing that there's no need for that since work is close to home. Left for them, they'd like me to stay till I plan for marriage whenever that will be; Lol, parents sha.

I'm already 28 years old, so I think it's time.

My colleagues already yab me anytime they get the opportunity, they love reminding me that I still dey chop mama thank you.

Problem is, the job security at my place of work is not that encouraging. I have older colleagues who have been in the company for 8 to 15 years, I've also, within my short period (less than a year now) seen about 5 workers sacked, it's a place where any thing can happen at any time.

So, should I invest this 400k in renting and furnishing an apartment with the constant uncertainty hovering over the job,and no side income yet, or should I continue staying with my parents while I invest the money in a side business which I don't know how it'll fare...

Now, frankly speaking, I'm not cut out for business, it's not my forte at all, so starting any at all comes with great risk but I still feel the need for another source of income.

On the flip side, Staying with my parents is not even as economical as most would think. Ever since I got the job, parents no dey gree say them get money again. All the bills are on me.

I'm just confused.

Salary fluctuates between 60 to 80k

.

The secret is quite simple: I don't drink, I don't smoke, ain't got no girlfriend. Don't need one now.

So, the only expenses I make are feeding, T fare, and helping parents with cash when food stuff and other utilities run low at home.

I would have even saved more if not that I provided half of the rent where we currently stay, bought a new laptop and a new phone when I lost the previous one I had, and of course, upgraded my wardrobe cheesy
you are a man....and I'm learning from you..

Ok that's good, at least you earn over 700k in a year, the normal rule is that your rent should not be more than one-fourth of your salary in a year, it depends on how you spend money on things, it is better than if you calculate your expenses monthly, you calculate how much you spend on food stuff, calculate what you spend on clothes, calculate how much you give out to people sometimes, calculate the cost of maintaining the apartment you plan on getting(nepa bills, security bills etc) subtract it from your salary, if the remaining money is not up to 5k monthly, then don't even think of trying to move out of your parents house because that is not progress but waste of time. I suggest you still stay in your parents house till at least a year more, you just started working and you need to be balanced before getting your own apartment, I know you want your space as a man but just have patience.

Rent ? One-fourth of your yearly salary? That's ridiculous.

There is something I wanna tell you

When you digest and allow what your enemies say against you, failure comes.

Don't listen to your friends, they are jealous of you.

A friend of mine saved up to 2.5 million before moving away from his parent.

700k for wedding and traditional marriage the same day.

He opened a provision shop with 1.2 m, rented an apartment with 250k a year.

Make sure you are balanced before moving away.

The big question is what u will do with the money at hand. Ur parents house is close to ur work so why leave unless it’s an inconvenience to them or u and especially with the conditions of ur work?

I advice stay and save more probably 1m plus then see ur alternatives on leaving.

400k is not enough to stay on your own bro. You talked about spending on your parents but we don't know how much you spend monthly on them. My opinion is: don't worry about the nagging and even the spending because it's part of your responsibility at 28 to take care of your parents even when you are still struggling. See their nagging as a challenge to save more before moving out someday.

thank God you dont womanise, drink and spend like a prodigal son. and take note those your colleague for work ehn, if them ask you for loan, dont even try to give them coz such loan destroys ones saving. as they won't be able to pay at once but instalmentaly and that could spoil once plan. was once a victim though.

My advice may be quite different from others. First u need to know that most of d jobs in Nigeria now r not stable, meaning you can loss it at anytime n u can continue with it for long. Jobs r not certain here in Nigeria, it's all about taking risk. Bro, you r 28 now, soon you will be 30 n still hanging with your parent. Let me tell you that you need to be independent at this age to get used to it before you finally get married. Also u need to get out to create room for your younger once to also matured under the tutorship of your parent. Get a single room, purchase a mattress n continue with your attitude of financial discipline then plan to invest.

Simple. Remain with your parents and keep saving. Stop giving yourself head aches because of ideas friends put in your mind. They wouldn't help you when you encounter problems. Also, research extensively on investment (agriculture, treasury bills, etc are sweet examples). Finally, never, I repeat , never go into any business without a long term plan for miscellaneous. Good luck and best wishes as you continue saving and enjoying your Mama's meal. Godspeed

Our old politicians including Bubu were very young when they achieved great milestones in life. The idea of a 28-year old man staying in his parents house because he wants to save is laughable. Don't be afraid of achieving great things at a young age.

you are right bro... But that it worked for you doesn't mean it will work for another person... I know a man that was with his parents even after Marriage till he built his own house and moved out with his wife and kid...

different strokes for different folks...we all have different angles at looking at tins, n what works for me might not work for u.

will share my little own experience. i move out of my parent house while am 25yrs old and as of today am 31, with a salary of 80k/monthly as at then but today its 150k/monthly

moving out with let you be a man of yourself and help you pursue and aim at bigger things.

immediately i move out of my parent house and i got my own apartment, the tin wey i start to dey think of is how to buy my own tv, bed chair, ac, fridge n many order home appliances and gradually i bought all that. seeing that alone when i got back from work make me feel good and ginger me more to do better in my work place and to do some little little business aside from work n raise small small money.

before you know it, i don gather small money buy 1 small car n also get 1 small land which i have complete today by God grace and as of today am married with a child.

Baba no wait until u get millions or billions before u start life.

sorry to say this, if small problem come from family side, mayb ur brother or sister need money u go comot out of d money but if u don use am already na to find another means.

make sometin pursue you so that you can aim higher, when you remember say u go pay house rent and some little bill you go aim higher.

If i dey wait make my money complete 5m, i no go ever hv a house. i have never in my life have up to 2m in my account. the little i get i dey use am hold sometin small small till everytin don bcome okay.

I know say the country no easy but make a move.

Brother, renting and furnishing a place to live isn't an investment but a liability. A bird at hand worths more in the bush.

Since you still have a place to lay our head, rent would be the last thing to think about, while you take time to decide on your career. Start a side hustle while working with your current employer, since the work environment is volatile. Look for alternatives job if that is the best for you, but don't shelf your idea of side hustle.

Don't quit your 9-to-5 job if your side hustle looks promising, unless it has grown to a reliable and sustainble level.
I can recommend side hustles for you, depending on your location.
I wish you the very best, brother.

You have just worked for one year and you think 400k is something to start planning with ❓

My advice, stay there and save more

If you lose your job you have nothing to worry about rent

If you rent an apartment with that pea nut, every year, your rent renewal will be giving you BP

You are earger to pack out so that you can flex as you like and carry women as you like, nothing else

Every month end give your parents 20k for feeding seat them down and let them know what you earn so that they don't expect much from you

By the time you give your parents 20k every month, consider what you have left, that will show you 50%of what you will go through if you insist on parking out

Besides, you are still young go for more degrees and upgrade your self, enjoyment no dey finsh

My advice is to stay for now. If you're to leave let that be planned for (e.g. couple of years) and maybe at marriage.
You should rather invest the money in your self: study, trainings, etc, in order to acquire more skills, sharpen existing ones and possibly get a better job/ change career or learn a trade.

Best wishes.

Guy man run leave that house oooo.

see the benefits for leaving. 1. u have enough time to think of ur future. 2. u don't feel relax when hustling as u know u are all by urself. 3. if u send ur perent like 15k every month they value it more than the much u spend now.

i left my perent when I was 26 with no job to another state. but now am 28 and am married, have my house and a car.

use u head bro....u must leave ur comfort zone.

see the benefits for leaving. 1. u have enough time to think of ur future. 2. u don't feel relax when hustling as u know u are all by urself. 3. if u send ur perent like 15k every month they value it more than the much u spend now.

i left my perent when I was 26 with no job to another state. but now am 28 and am married, have my house and a car.

use u head bro....u must leave ur comfort zone.
