Desperation was what I wanted you to put there.
It's okay though.

Since we are learning,
Desperatness: reckless or dangerous because of despair, hopelessness, or urgency: a desperate killer. having an urgent need, desire, etc.: desperate for attention; desperate to find a job.

Examples
To complete the desperateness of the situation the news reached the capital that Ahmed Pasha, the Ottoman admiral-in-chief, had sailed to Alexandria and surrendered his fleet to Mehemet Ali, on the pretext that the sultan's advisers were sold to the Russians.
The desperateness of the situation, however, roused the government of Theodosius II., who was still upon the throne, to put forth the most energetic efforts to meet the emergency.

My friend, you got it.

This suppose to be a very engaging and reasonable thread but from the replies I have seen in over 3 Pages I have to conclude two things :

Nairaland is dead and not what it used to be.

Or

Nigerian youths are becoming dumber and loosing intellect.

It is a combination of both.

I saw the headline and was looking forward to reading people's experiences. First it was the English teachers, followed by the kids who have failed to realise that there's dignity in labour.

Some go to school to get a good job and a good life,
While others constitute nuisance and go into a life of fraud.

It depends on the individual.

We wonder how some people will have such good opportunity and be comfortable doing crime.

Some have head but don't have caps,
Some have caps but no heads.

We will get there too someday.

This deserves to be on Front Page.
You've said it all man.
Nothing to be added!
END OF THREAD!!

Hahahahhaa u dey follow talk for those wey dey go abroad.

Please I want to ask a question.

What do Nigerians who left the country and travelled abroad do (what's their sources of income), because some left Nigeria with no hope of getting a job abroad.

And judging by the desperation of the youth about getting out of this country I think they have the believe that once they leave this country the odds are in their favour. I really want to know what they do
there's nothing wrong with your english, don't let anyone intimidate you because of it.

Reasonable people have left nairaland for the dumb ones. The moderators for years now have been pushing really dumb topics and gossips to front page all to generate traffic.

One of my American friends said they have issues with Nigerians because they work too much.
Nigerians can work for 14hours while Americans see them as workaholics.
She said Nigerians see them as lazy because most of them prefer to work half day.

Leaving Nigeria has been the best decision I ever made. I only wish I left earlier.
I never get papers, but I'm balling hard. Making nothing less than 4000$ every month. I work 12 hours (6 times a week )My expenses every month isn't more than 1200$. This amount isn't near what I hope to be making once my papers land. It's almost here. Definitely going back to school...

If you want to hussle in the states, you must be hardworking and willing to do overtime .Start exercising before you come, that way the job won't be hard on your muscles lol. I don't see my job as hard though. Choose the right state. Forget the big states for a start. JOBS plenty where I dey.. Question is;you get the energy to work?

The funny twist is that even after tax they make in one month what many employees in naija will make in a year.

Just that it is not easy until you have a work permit.

it depends on ur contact, if you have free accomodation for 3 to 6 months like I help people that I know , and put them on right ways, you will get good job , not factory job, forklift , American dont care about ur certificate , but ur ability to perform is what they need. If you know it do it and do it well.

Getting papers to do anything if you travel to the US illegally, is more difficult than it used to be.
Arrangee marriages for green card cost thousands of dollars.
This Trump's administration has made it a lot more difficult. They sometimes raid places where many illegal people work.
As for UK, work is very difficult for people generally. It's tougher in the UK

Contrary to the overused stereotype bandied by ignorant people back home that all Nigerians based abroad do is menial jobs, IT'S NOT ALL NIGERIANS THAT ENGAGE IN MENIAL JOBS ABROAD. At least I can speak for the Nigerian demography here in the USA where I stay... we have LOTS of Nigerian doctors, pharmacists, Lawyers, Engineers, IT guru's etc doing very well in their respective professions here(we are abundantly represented at and in all levels of American labor) . While it is true that some Nigerians especially when they first come abroad engage in menial jobs to survive(and trust me the concept of dignity in labor is respected in developed countries like the USA, Canada, and some parts of Europe)where there's absolutely no shame in doing menial jobs, these Nigerians who start up with under the table low paying jobs due to paper issues, they still go on in few years to go to school and acquire degrees in good paying career fields(you can't take away ambition and goal from a Nigerian)... there's a reason why Nigerians are the most educated demography in America today. I've met Nigerian doctors, lawyers, business managers/owners etc today who were once security guards, cleaners, Cab drivers etc once. And for context, Most doctors in Nigeria don't even gross half the yearly income of a Cab driver in the USA!

You have said it all.

UNSKILLED WORK ABOUND THERE, UNEMPLOYMENT RATE IS VERY LOW. AS AN UNSKILLED WORKER, IN USA, YOU ARE PAID 12-15 DOLLARS PER HOUR. CONVERT IT YOUR SELF, ASSUMING YOU DECIDE TO WORK SIX HOURS A DAY, MULTIPLY IT YOURSELF . SO YOU KNOW THE REASON MOST PEOPLE WANTS TO TRAVEL OUT. NEED I TALK OF SOCIAL AMENITIES AND AVAILABILITY OF FOOD?
