You will support the parent until the wife-to-be happens to be your sister or daughter. Whatever happens to surrogacy! They can find a surrogate mother to carry the pregnancy for him. After all, replacement is all they need.

Selfish in what sense? Marriage is still a choice. The girl has a choice to decline. The boy can raise children without necessarily getting married to anyone.

I am an only son and never let that stupid pressure get to me. I made sure I finished my education up to masters level and was comfortable enough before I got married. I have 3 kids now and though mum is late now, she met two of those kids and she was proud of me.
Sickle cell doesn't define us. And please don't play god to someone living with sickle cell.

Nothing wrong if a man of 21 years gets married. The issue I'm having here is the motive behind it, instead of spending money on bone marrow treatment or other things that may be beneficial to his health it seems his parents have already signed his death warrant so why are they trying to rope an innocent lady into this? what of the kids who they're trying to produce, is it their grand parents that will replace the father figure in their lives or they're looking for who to burden with old age problems? on a lighter note, they may also be lookin for who to hand over their properties after their demise? we humans just like to complicate things for ourselves

SS anemia patients are normal in every respect except that they could be prone to crises.
The SS guy may even be able to outperform a majority of AA, AS genotype if that's your worry.

The guy knows that if anything happens, he has a family
The Parent know that if anything happen they have a copy of their son (it's not his fault he is SS(
The Girl know that her future is financially secured if she married the guy. (If the guy dies, she can remarry iff she treats her in-law as family: her children may stay more with their grandparents than her though)

They're just looking after their own. Moreover, the maintenance and upkeep of the new family is their problem... So why can't people mind their business.
