Men, most of the time, bear the name Aluko. But I'm planning to name my daughter Aluko. What's your suggestion, please?

Aluko is her father's name from your example.

I want it as my daughter's middle name.

Is it sexy and feminine?

It's sexy, but known to be masculine in my Yoruba culture.

So, save your daughter some heartache she can avoid.

This is Nigeria.

Aluko is a bird associated with camwood (osun) in traditional Yoruba. Camwood is used in making red dye and also to lighten the skin tone. It's feathers are part of the masquerade outfit.

Yes. To beautify women in those days, osun is usually used. But a bird known as Aluko has the color of osùn

Thanks, bro. I know no one can challenge me by giving her the name. The name will earn her respect as people will be surprised that the name is often given to men with great ancestral history. From literal interpretation, Aluko is a bird with the color that symbolizes beauty in Yoruba land.

It's the bearded berbet:

It's a male name. You can find feminine names that also mean beauty for your daughter.
Why do you want controversy for her in the future?

This is the first time I'm hearing of this bird. The bird has a beautiful plumage but inherently masculine in appearance.

Op, there are several feminine names associated with beauty in Yorubaland but you want to choose a masculine one for your unborn daughter. When the innocent child grows up to become a professional wrestler, you will start wondering which lineage of her parentage has tomboyish women. You try.

I hope the said daughter doesn't start having issues with this name in future.

With the way people abuse names.

You never can tell. Maybe the name might be of benefit to daughter in the future. Aluko as a first or middle name will make it easier for her if she decides to change her gender.

She can become a man and the name will fit perfectly, with her previously feminine attributes and some new facial hairs and beards, she will resemble a true Aluko.

I am sure there are other names that mean beauty as well.

Nigerians enjoy spoiling names.

For example, they will shorten Igbekeleoluwa and start calling the person 'Igbe'. There are many examples.

I for one like doing things differently, I have a masculine name I gave myself but it's not officially one of my names.

For example, eran igbe is game as in wildlife.

I dont know if you're Yoruba but ile lan nwo ka to somoloruko, which is to say traditionally you give your child a name based on your background or family environment.

If you're not in tune with your roots then you could give a child any name, but as someone guessed, are you planning for your daughter to identify as a different gender?
