Fairfora are you serious? Treating typhoid outside of a hospital. That doc of "yours" is incompetent. Tell your colleague to visit another hospital. He will be on admission and placed on drips.
ok, thanks. I've actually asked him to take some days off. Health is wealth.

Please who ever is treating typhoid must add Flagyl to the prescribed antibiotics. This is from personal experience and it was my elder brother who was ill. A consultant. He never believed until it happened to him and his fellow surgeons told him you cant treat an internal infection without adding flagyl. Its also a most for surgery patients. Please am serious. Be guided

Medicine does not work on "personal experience" or Daddy GO said this
The gold standard of Evidence is a Randomized Control Trial not "expert" anecdotes

What is the evidence base for this bizarre claim.

What do you mean by "internal infection" is that a technical term?
There is no reason why you must add flagyl in all cases.
I am sorry but that is nonsense and is a statement that reveals ignorance of microbiology.

A key element is missing here, probably you were not told or chose to leave it out.... Did they carry out antibiotic susceptibility test on the Salmonella typhi strain the colleague has in his system?
If No, then complete diagnosis was not done and you're probably treating with the wrong antibiotic.
On the other hand, if that was done, then the strain of the organism your colleague is carrying is already multi-drug resistant.
First advice is to stay off antibiotics for a while, take natural products (agbo from correct source, not streetside concoctions), plus take lots of fermented product (especially probiotic yoghurt to help reduce the Salmonella typhi load and boost the immune system's response).
Then the antibiotic can be taken alongside the previous two listed above (antibiotic should be taken after stool MCS, i.e. microscopy, culture and antibiotic sensitivity, has been done by a lab. This will tell what organisms are really causing havoc and the course of antibiotics to use).
Wish him speedy recovery.

Permit me to add that he also run a urine culture test he might be having a different bacteria. Resort to quality table water only for now and also mind his source of food and who prepares it for at least a month.

I was hoping someone would touch on this

Some people after recovering from a bout of Typhoid fever either following antibiotic treatment or no treatment whatsoever can go on to become "CARRIERS" of typhoid . A small number of carriers may have no history of any illness.

It is believed that in these individuals there is a reservoir of bacteria in places where antibiotics do not usually penetrate for example the gall bladder.
Such a person could shed bacteria in their feces, blood or other body secretions without appearing unwell and or they could reinfect themselves from time to time when immunity is low e,g while under stress etc
E.g bacteria pass from the gall bladder into the intestine and causes a new infection of the carrier or in the stool to infect household members

If carrier status is established then the individual needs input from a Hospital doctor

If an individual has frequent episodes then carrier status should be suspected

Members of the household should be vaccinated

Hello nairalanders. I have this colleague who was always sleeping in the office around july. He often complained of muscle and joint pain with dizziness and pain in his eyes and both sides of his head. Sometimes, he would be complaining of slight headache and abdominal pain.

I asked that some test be run by him, including an XYZ just to be sure. He did all that and all was negative except typhoid which was inherent in the diagnostic report with negligible malaria. He was placed on a broad spectrum ciprofloxacin. He was feeling relieved after which the symptoms came back.

He went back to the clinic and was placed on Zinax, a higher antibiotics. 2 weeks later, the symptoms came back again and this time, the dr asked him to repeat the test and still repeat the XYZ. As usual all came out negative except thyphoid. This time, he was placed on augmentine. In short, he completed the recommended dose barely 2 weeks ago and symptoms have returned as I speak . Yesterday, I asked that the test be repeated for the 3rd time same as usual. Please medics, pharms and traditional medics in the house, what drug can he use to get rid of this stubborn bacteria?

Typhoid fever responds well to Cipro or Azithromycin. The challenge in Nigeria is getting access to genuine brands of these medications and also finding a competent physician who will recommend these medications at appropriate doses, willingness of patient to take the medication until dose is completed and also recheck labs to make sure the bacteria is suppressed from the blood. Most important of all, he has to watch what he eats. Typhoid is contacted via oral intake, and it is very easy to keep reinfecting yourself over and over again.

I think u have taken too much antibiotics and it kills the immune system. Pls go and boost your immune system with immune system supplements and your body will take care of this naturally. Next time if u want to do test for typhoid better do stool culture so they can detect the drug sensitivity and offer you a drug that will be sensitive to your system instead of taking any antibiotics you see cos the antibiotics that work in my body may not work on yours so u need to take the one that works for you and you can know that by doing stool culture.

Typhoid is caused by bacteria Salmonella typhi. It is a serious health condition especially in the developing world. Typhoid risk is higher in populations that lack access to safe water and adequate sanitation.

Causes of Typhoid Fever
Typhoid fever spreads through contaminated food and water or through close contact with someone who's infected. Most people feel better within a few days of starting antibiotic treatment, although a small number of them may die of complications.

Early symptoms of Typhoid Fever
Symptoms are likely to develop gradually, often appearing 1-3weeks after exposure to the disease. They include : headache, sweating, abdominal pain, weakness and tiredness, loss of appetite and weight loss, diarrhoea/constipation, extremely swollen abdomen

Later symptoms
You may become delirious, lie motionless and exhausted with your eyes half-closed. Life-threatening complications often develop at this time. The most serious complications of typhoid are intestinal bleeding or holes(perforations).

Treatment of Typhoid Fever
The most commonly used antibiotic is ciprofloxacin. Taking antibiotics to treat typhoid only work if typhoid is caught early. If not, typhoid can be fatal. There is currently concern about the growing resistance of antibiotics to S. typhi. In recent years, for example, typhoid has become resistant to ampicilin. Ciprofloxacin, one of the key medications for typhoid, is also experiencing similar difficulties.

There are very effective natural food supplements to treat all forms of diseases and ailments completely. We recommend suitable supplements of our reputable Company to treat Typhoid to get the best results. These supplements start work by attacking the bacteria to eradicate it, and correcting the imbalances in the cells and restoring the health to normal for the desired results.

Yes, so far it doesn't contain achohol. All the leaves used are what we consume in fruit. I remember him bathing with neem water when he has a reoccuring malaria, the shit vanished within 3days.

Just that nigerians don't value what they have and too much of book is affecting us.
