Good morning Nairaland family. I have noticed that some pastors will tell unemployed single men to marry and that when they get married and start having kids, that things will begin to get easier for them in life.

Sometimes they say things Luke when you get married, the star of the woman and yours work together to make things easier and give you better things in life.

I used to laugh at this until about a month ago and a pastor I know told me the same thing.
Please how true is this? I need advice from people with such experiences. Pardon my English please.

Thank you and God bless.
Man proposed,God disposed. There is no really a formula for success without the intervention of God. I have seen a lot of people who said they will not get married until they are financially stable and they've gone far in age without any assurance of financial stability. The question is,when do you think you will be financially stable?.time wait for no one. if no be one, e go be one. the pastor is right if you ask me

Two single people (man and woman) and two married people (man and woman) consume the same amount of water and food.

Two single people under a different roof (roof A & roof B) consume higher electricity than two married people under same roof (roof C).

What's strange about that? How can 1 be greater than 2?

Okay, I understand you now.

Faith without work, is useless my brother. If you get married without anything to fall back on, you're on your own. Same pastor would tell you to keep trusting when you meet him for counselling or money to feed your family. Rather, pray to God to provide you a job and other things would fall in line.

After graduating and serving my fatherland and my gf was always pressuring me that we should get married when I didn't have a job, my pastor said marriage wasn't what I needed at this stage but job. Unfortunately, she couldn't wait as all her friends were busy getting married and she too felt like copying them. I stood my ground because if push comes to shove, na me go suffer am. She went and married another guy whom she met in less than 6 months and they settled down . The guy too no get job.

Almost a year later, I got a job with one of the blue chip companies, found a woman I could marry and 2 years later I got married. This lady who refused to wait didn't have an issue until 4 years after marriage. Now, she always calls for help which I didn't turn down.
What sort of help?

Nigeria is a marriage-obssessed society. In Nigeria, nobody cares whether you are financially able or whether you have found love.
You see a senior person harassing a young person into marriage, but they will never help the young person get a job or start a business.
Most people who aren't financially capable who allowed themselves harassed or brainwashed into marriage with the "Marriage-brings-blessings" sermon are finding themselves in serious troubles...and guess what, they are abandoned by the same people who goaded them into it.
nobody in this world and beyond can force me into marraige, not even my mom. Likewise no one can tell me who to marry or not.

Has DSTV increased your bill because you wear a wedding band? Did any Doctor confirmed an increment in the size of your stomach since you got married?

If it takes one person 1 gallon/ bucket of water to take a bath a day, how many gallons/ bucket will it take 2 people to take a shower in 1 day? This considering person A pays 100 Naira a month for water when he resided by himself. Based on the above would the water bill remain constant or increase?

I will be waiting for your answer and it will determine if I should engage you any further.

And why do unemployed men keep girlfriends if they don't have money to cater for the needs of the girls. If you can take care of a girlfriend then taking care of wife should equally not be a problem
That part about gf is tricky. You aren't absolutely responsible for a gf. She comes with a long list, you prune it or dodge being responsible.

Good thing is, some girls will still be with you because they know you are their only option. In such cases you chalk up good 'time' being a boyfriend.k

Guy, but if you're married, no dodging those things you validly escaped as a single. As a matter of fact, if you parry your responsibities asa husband, you in-laws oran ex of your wife would bail out and you'd betotally demeaned!

Responsibilities of being and staying married are huge and signing up, for me, shouldn't be by faith. There was a garden that Adam was tending to when Eve was created for/from him. Though the bible says: He who finds a wife ......and obtains favour from the lord, God only promises to bless your waters d bread as well as the works of your hands.

If you are misguided into marrying while believing God for a job, you're toast!

Please be guided.

So when person A pays N100, a special marital law forbids person B from paying another N100? Person B never baths with water before meeting person A? You've being bathing before marriage na, then continue to bath na.

It's easy to say until landlord comes asking for rent and there are medical bills to pay.
At least the woman should have a source of income.

Bros why are you talking as if you’re not living in Nigeria? In naija, the husband provides for more than 90 percent of the needs in the home. The husband must feed his family, provide shelter and other essential things. Do you think women in Nigeria are interested in sharing bills with their husband? A typical naija woman doesn’t share any fvcking bills bro, the man must shoulder everything. Only very FEW women contribute financially for the upkeep of the home o, and they even do it while complaining. Moreover, family and friends will come to you regularly for financial support, will you turn them away all the time without being labeled a bad person?

If you're single, you feed yourself and have a roof over your head, then you can marry. There are no special bills or taxes for married people. Your stomach and portion of food do not get bigger with marriage. Your electricity or water bill do not increase because you're married. Same electricity, same cable TV, same quantity of water, same rent, etc.

In fact, it is easier for two WORKING and sensible people because they're able to put resources together to achieve a better result. E.g. If you've being paying rent alone, you can share bills (not necessarily in equal proportions).

The only thing that makes a difference is pregnancy & child upkeep, and to the best of my knowledge, this is optional. After all, single men and women have more sex than married people, without fear of pregnancy.

To blame finance for being single is lack of SENSE and understanding. It is perpetual failure of the brain to think MARRIAGE between two people will drain finance faster than the single folks. It is like living alone to bear all cost Vs. living and sharing bills with a room mate.

Think.

Problem is, society makes 80% of the bill to be the man's responsibility and then your wife may have high taste and will likely want good things, so it's not entirely a room mate scenario, she will have sense of entitlement to whatever she wants you to get.

My brother consumption rate increases when you get married, starting from water, food, light, even dirt in the house increase. I have seen a man doing well when he was single but the moment he got married come see poverty. I don't agree with you completely

I don't believe this. Don't go and be like one guy in my compound o. He is only a phone charger and married (no wedding o) e just impregnated the poor girl and now they have a daughter that is of school age but not yet in school, the only food i see them cook every night when they return from the charging center is indomie, imagine indomie without egg for the 3of them every night.

Did they get married officially? If no, it’s wrong. Marriage is different from impregnating. They are still fornicating. Who will answer their prayers?

After destroying her womb and wishing her bad, you still have the guts to tell her story. If you truly want to help her, better stop assisting her financially, let her learn to hustle her way. And remember it’s not over until it’s over. Don’t tell stories when you are not yet close to your grave. Anything can happen to your family or job.

The hypothetical pros, how about the practical cons? Are you seriously trying to tell folks finance is not a huge consideration before getting married, or well, that gets automatically sorted when you do get married? And to know over 200 non-the-wiser audience liked this specious angle of yours is dangerous!
