Studying abroad is a good thing to do if and only if you can stay there and work with your certificate. I studied in the US but couldn't get a job in Nigeria.

This is cliche but why did you comeback ? US of all places bro ?

I almost schooled in Canada some years back but somehow God didn't want it cos I was denied visa 4 times after paying tuition and all. Even with a very heavy and loaded statement of account.
God news, I took my money back and blew it all
I DONT REGRET THAT DECISION
I don't think I would be happy going to Canada and knowing what lies ahead of me back then.
I'm glad I was denied my visa and I'm grateful for the Nigerian dream

"Nigerian dream?"

People are asking why would anyone regret studying abroad? My people, if after studying abroad and you couldn't get any decent job afterwards, you would be full of regrets.

Some of my colleague in 2009 came to UK on self- sponsorship, paid millions and at the end of their programs, the Conservative government of David Cameroon told them to go back to their respective countries. Companies were told to first consider UK/ EU. Citizens before any international applicant.

It was a hopeless situation for many Nigerian students. Some came back to Nigeria to pick up call centre jobs with MTN and others while some struggled with entry level positions.

I thanked God that I came to UK under scholarship and there was no regret. Luckily, I got something on my return back to Nigeria.

If you want to study and sponsor your self, please head to Canada, New zealand or Australia. Avoid UK or EU countries. If you study in UK or any EU countries, you will be considered last in employment after the citizens of 28 member EU must have been considered.

Don't get me wrong, People still get jobs after studying in UK but it is very tough now. Most Nigerians go abroad to study with purpose of securing decent job and settling there. Most are not interested in coming back. If this is your intention, avoid EU countries.

It has caused a lot of depression to many people after studying abroad, paid the huge millions and come back to Nigeria to hustle for jobs with local graduates.

Some abroad graduates even hides to avoid people asking them questions after coming back to Nigeria. They see themselves as failure if they have nothing to show after returning back to Nigeria.

Germany is a lot better than UK tho. I get your points tbh.

Ignore him/her. A lot of small kids and adults with brain of small kids on Nairaland, you would only be wasting your time answering them.

Meanwhile, you only told me you have been offered Medicine/Pharmacy. Is it in Rabat or Fes? If it's in Rabat, just head to RPF church on Sunday, make friends with the Francophone and Anglophone students after service. You are bound to meet one or two medical students on ground who can explain to you better what difficulties one might encounter. Also if you are in the cité mix up with other Nationalities. Don't just hang around with your fellow Nigerians alone.

There is NO such thing as the "Nigerian dream"

Only one country has a "dream"
Not any other

One MAY strive very hard and make something out of himself in Nigeria BUT in totality, Nigeria is a useless country
That does not stop some from making the best out of it.

And judging by your circumstances
It's good that you did not leave tho
The work load would have been too much for you

Majority of those who studied in the uk plus other schools abroad and returned are regretting.
personally, I know 2 people who studied in the UK and returned to naija and we work in the same office.
One came with PhD and the other an MSc.
The only thing they bring to the table is phonetics and huge wage bill. (Though the org pay us same salary regardless of the place u did MSc)
They couldn't withstand those of us who did MSc in naija cos our work is very technical and for only skilled professionals.
An external examiner came to assess the staff and rated those of us that did MSc in naija above the two UK graduates.
The one with PhD had to run to another firm cos she was always depressed and complains a lot about job dissatisfaction.
Their expectation is always above the roof, thinking the world owes them for studying abroad.
I have started a PhD programme here in naija.
Success is not environmentally transmitted.
I know a lot of friends outside naija always hailing me anytime I post on Facebook.

Well you'd be surprised. I studied in the UK and I quite regret it. When my mates where crossing to Canada for PG, I took the UK route... turned out to be one of the worst decisions I ever took because when I finished my program, I received an email expressly instructing me to return to my country sad

My classmates in the West by the second year of their stay had already been absolved into different organizations. I'm talking about 2012.

Today, all of them are Canadian citizens. The UK just recently upturned that ridiculous policy and now give extra 2 years visa after you finish your program to encourage more foreign students to come there as they where loosing their prospects to Canada.

The question was "do you regret studying abroad" not "do you regret studying in the UK". Are you better off with a UK degree than a Nigerian degree? You are answering a different question to what was asked.

He isn't right. Morocco is not in the desert. Talking from experience. It shares border with Spain. In fact, just a bridge that separate both countries.

Wow! I’m having a similar situation, I plan on going to Germany for masters (free tuition) though they have a 1/half years stay back policy, I wanted to apply for PG in Canada initially but the rate of denial is scary.

I’m kinda confused...it’s easier integrating in Canada

Free tuition in Germany? is it a fully funded scholarship or what sir? looking forward to your reply

I heard Germany is good, immigration wise. Not sure though. Just do your proper research and move ahead. I advice every youth who has the wherewithal to acquire a second passport.

A better question would have been:
How has your study and stay in abroad affected you economically and it’s psychological impact on you. As for regret, none.

His English is ok. What makes me doubt him is "God's saviour secondary School in Oshodi". People normally won't give such a specific detail about themselves
The question isn't whether his English is merely "OK", but whether it's on the level one would expect of a Harvard graduate, and on that score he clearly falls far short. Anyone with a degree from such a selective institution would be expected to have mastered basic concepts of style such as fully capitalizing proper nouns, even when they have multiple components, and the proper usage of commas.

Bro, you totally off point, where was it mentioned that he didn't find a job or was redundant?

"...he worked for a while in the academia but gave it up in 1969 to live in a shack in the woods..."

Doesn't he pass for a drug addict who veered off course by engaging in illicit activities? Like selling bombs....I insist the post is a joke.
