Chief Charles Idahosa, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo state on Wednesday said he will support a northern candidate for Presidency after the completion of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure in 2023.

Well, history is replete with the Yoruba (by this, I refer to their political elite) jettisoning agreement and united fronts with other parts of Southern Nigeria in order to pursue a "plan" with the core North.
From all accounts, they have been dealt with by the core North. From the jailing of Awolowo till the jailing and murder of MKO till the current sabotaging of Tinubu/Osinbajo, they haven't actually gained the benefit of their "chameleonic" behaviour to borrow your words.
However, if Nigeria has to move forward, 21st century forward, the other parts of the South have to drop their valid concerns about the Yoruba political elites and find a way to work with them. Else, in 2023, mark my words, we would have another Northern President. Or still Buhari.

The Old Eastern region supported Obasanjo. Obasanjo is not an Igbo man.
They supported him again, even against Buhari who fielded an Okadigbo and another Igbo man (forgotten his name) as Vice Presidential candidate.
They supported Yar Adua- who isnt Igbo.
They supported GEJ who isn't Igbo.
They supported Atiku, who isnt Igbo.

The Old Eastern region have a habit of looking at the field and supporting a candidate who is demonstrably NOT a bigot, who is a nationalist, who has some education and proven competency in leadership, amongst the top candidates.
