Where is the SW now in the scheme of things in Nigeria? No 1 to SS, No 2 and 4 to the NW, No 3 and 5 (senate president and Chief Justice) to NC and  No 6 and 7 (deputy senate president and deputy speaker) to SE. I just need somebody in the house to educate me of the benefits of the ACN controlled SW voting for Tambuwal. Good analysis please.

The last "test" for the so called zoning remains the PDP Chairmanship. With the "Tinubu ACN empire" in the SW, this may yet again remain a mountainous feat for SW to achieve.

Read in between the lines before you celebrate the "end" of zoning.

1. Which geopolitical zone is Tambuwal from?
2. Which geopolitical zone was Yardua from?
3. What deal did GEJ and OBJ cut with the North to allow GEJ emerge as president?
4. Do you really think the PDP leadership was caught unawares considering the whooping support Tambuwal got?
5. Did GEJ and OBJ honestly believe the other reps would support Mulikat?
6. Which geopolitical zone advocated for the regular zoning formula and why?
7. Which candidate would serve the bellies of the floor members best?
8. Why has ACN been having romantic affairs with PDP lately?
9. Who did the ACN members support and why didn't they vote for a South Westerner?
10. Is Tambuwal not a PDP member?  undecided

I honestly do not think these things happened overnight. I believe it is all part of the big plan. Compensation politics and zoning are still very much alive. These boys have only just adopted new strategies to solve their problems.

I dey laff o.

Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (PDP) Sokoto State has emerged as the new Speaker of the 7th session of the House of Representatives of Nigeria.

He defeated Hon. Mulikat Akande-Adeola who is popularly tagged as the candidate of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP and the presidency.

Tambuwal was a deputy chief whip in the 6th session of the House of Representatives. He ran against Hon. Mulikat Akande in defiance to the endorsement of the ruling PDP.

The new speaker emerged by polling 252 votes to defeat Mulikat Akande-Adeola, who polled 90. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha was elected as Deputy Speaker.

Glad tidings for SW, this is a prelude to true federalism and a revelation to PDP that it is not the business as usual. My advice to GEJ is to sit tight and model plan for great Nigeria.

What for SW you ask? The sing-song in SW has been to erode the influence of mainstream from its regional integration and collective development. Progressive and intelligentsia mind in SW will be happy for the development in Nigeria politics at this time.

Just wait in 2 years for a jab in Nigeria political terrain.

The reason history repeat itself is because people fail to learn from it. Great mind develop the world not great or juicy position.

This is just so funny! grin cheesy
Zoning is dead yet GEJ chose a Northern as his VP? Zoning is alive yet the Senate president and PDP's national chairman are from the North?

WOOW! 2015 will be a very very interesting year. 2015 will ask Nigerians the question they have all been scared to hear. That year will shake Nigeria to her very foundation!
With Sambo waiting to over take GEJ (zoning is alive shocked), yet Fashola may want to contest as the next president(zoning is dead and we want merit shocked) and Ndigbo will want a shot at it (zoning is alive but was paused for 4 yrs shocked) grin cheesy.

Funny country!

Congrats to the new speaker!

When will young Nigerians base their thought on the basis of intellectual prowess. SW has tasted mainstream for 8 years, the result has been backwardness with other regions of the country in unprecedented backwardness for 12 years.

SW people are not so silly to follow the same path through which its ship was wrecked, all of you that have routed for the PDP. What have you gained in the last 12 years? Kindly enlist what you have gained.

I'm sorry for these people, yet they refuse to learn.

Smart thinking.

GEJ presidency did not come without a price. People are busy celebrating here without reading in between the lines. These boys are just acting out a script. It is most likely part of the deal made for GEJ in the last election and/or for 2015. Also, this outcome is beyond just a GEJ issue. PDP as a whole is up to something.
Re: Tambuwal Is The New Speaker For The 7th Assembly by fadhill: 7:21pm On Jun 06, 2011
An average SWesterner will ever be objective. The objectivity is drawn from the fact that Nigeria remains a geographic entity till date. Let me bulge the truth to our consciousness, Yorubas will assiduously work for regional integration and wait as the game is being played out by other regions in the name of mainstream.

SW wait to see how your game mainstream is played out, and 2015 will be eye opener for us all. Just be wise to read between the lines. Kindly wise up.
Re: Tambuwal Is The New Speaker For The 7th Assembly by johnie: 7:24pm On Jun 06, 2011
The profile of the two principal officers from the Punch report of 2007. (There's no guessing how the other positions will go. Status Quo remains and for a reason!):

johnie:

Aminu Tambuwal
Tambuwal is the Deputy Chief Whip of the House. A lawyer by training, he represents Kebbe/Tambwal federal constituency of Sokoto State . He was an All Nigeria Peoples Party lawmaker until a few months to the April 2007 election, when he defected to the PDP. Tambuwal took over from Dr Ahmed Salik as the ANPP leader in the House in 2005 - a change the party never recognised. He dumped the ANPP for the PDP at the behest of former Governor Bafarawa of Sokoto decamping to DPP. He returned to the ANPP when DPP denied all the Sokoto lawmakers ticket during the primaries that preceded the April election. Eventually, the ANPP gave him a ticket for election, only for him to defect to the PDP when Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, the then ANPP governorship candidate, was lured out of the party with a PDP governorship ticket. He was a well-known lawmaker and a reliable opposition voice in the chamber until he changed political camps.

Tambuwal came to the House in 2003. He is a progressive and sophisticated schemer. He was part of those who fought against the then ANPP leader, Ahmed Salik, during the early days of the Masari era. He is a well-informed lawyer and knows how to stay away from controversy. In the thick of Ettehgate, he withdrew from public glare and preferred to scheme from the shadows. That may have accounted for his surviving as the Deputy Chief Whip.

Emeka Ihedioha
Ihedioha is the new Chief Whip of the House. He belongs to the progressive camp, and a supporter of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. It has been a marvel how he was able to secure a return ticket from the PDP, despite his avowed support for Abubakar and opposition to the third term plot. He replaces Sam Amadi, who fell casualty to the N628m house renovation scandal.

Femi Gbajabiamila
Gbajabiamila is an Action Congress member from Lagos State and the Minority Whip of the House. He came to the House in 2003, and he is one of the brains behind the Integrity Group and the subsequent removal of Etteh. He fought the former Speaker at every turn, and used his position to work with other minority groups in the House to sway most of the members to dump Etteh. He is experienced in legislative matters, and is a core progressive.

Yorubas are now third 6th class cirizens of Nigeria!!!  grin
Re: Tambuwal Is The New Speaker For The 7th Assembly by fadhill: 7:44pm On Jun 06, 2011
olyivy , what class is your tribe in the scheme of things? Why not do yourself good with constructive thinking of where have you been after much of all these positions. Yorubas have never voted PDP/Mainstream as we are not expecting anything from the divide. I wonder what will be your excuse by 2015.
Re: Tambuwal Is The New Speaker For The 7th Assembly by vedaxcool(m): 7:58pm On Jun 06, 2011

But the SW voted for PDP in the presidential elections, I believe this main stream/ regional dichotomy does not really carry that much weight, the SW will always need the FED govt for executing big project, not getting the speakership does not really diminish the SW in any way well except in the PDP.

As far as am concerned SW is not losing anything, Those Abuja positions and politicians  are there for selfish interest, pride & distractions.

Please someone should tell me what SW benefited when Obj was president? He couldn't even construct FG roads in his own state not 2 talk of other SW states, thousands of innocent citizens die every-year in motor accidents along Lagos-Ibadan , Lagos- Benin express way because of poor roads.
Instead he built hill-top mansion in his state, and fight Tinubu(his fellow yoruba) to the end because of pride, just to let everybody knows he's the president.

What of Bankole? Busy taking personal loans using his office, and fighting his own governor for superiority.
Tell me, how do the poor masses benefit from them?

Tinubu never betrayed Mulikat, ACN were initially supporting her because, she's not Obasanjo or GEJ's candidate.ACN  & other oppositions simply wants an independent house, not usual pdp family affairs.
House that ll fight for true federalism so that all regions and states can be less dependent on FG.

Jonathan's supporters should be ashamed of themselves, after saying zoning does not exist, now they are saying otherwise.I wouldn't surprise if tomorrow the president tell people that 2015 is the turn of SS because he's presently completing Yaradua's (North) tenure.I just hope and wish Mr president will focus and concentrate on his jobs and stop all the so-call petrol-fare money sharing meetings(its another means of looting and vision-less).

We want electricity, better economy and if possible corrupt-free country.

Enough of tribal, ethnicity and sectional politics, We need competence, We are all one Nigeria.
Re: Tambuwal Is The New Speaker For The 7th Assembly by OLUENTA1: 8:26pm On Jun 06, 2011
Forget chauvinism and ego i dont think Bankole's tenure as Speaker the south west benefitted greatly, Afterall the money stole is for his immediate family.

I think we shld all stop this politics of 'he s from my place or he s from your place politics'.

Even If SW is not in the first 100th i dont fuckin care as long as Fashola is affecting me positively.
Re: Tambuwal Is The New Speaker For The 7th Assembly by 2bosun: 8:33pm On Jun 06, 2011
The SW does not need to be "mainstream"- We've been in "mainstream" politics for the past 12 years and it has brought nothing but backwardness and division to the zone. I think AC knew exactly what they were doing by delivering their votes to the North. A speaker from the SW might pose unnecessary problems to the politics of AC in the SW and Nigeria in the future.

Votes are starting to count in Nigeria from the look of things, and the best way to win votes is by delivering on your mandate- 2015 is definitely a far shot for the SW to get back into "mainstream" politics- all the talk of Fashola as President/VP is premature right now (although anything can happen in politics) I  believe the AC would be looking to erode their ways into other Southern states, which would be the only way the would stand a chance to  wrestle power from the mighty PDP. It is definitely a work in progress for the AC- they are slowly trying to gain national relevance which was underlined by the meeting with GEJ- a very calculating move because they would also be looking to expose his weaknesses and show themselves as a credible alternative if given any chance .

I have always been against the SW speakership- just look at what happened to the last 2 speakers- it's a bloody shame! Let them develop the SW first for the world to see and then if that's not enough to get back into the "mainstream"- then that would be Nigeria's loss.
