Obviously, the standard has dropped. The way of knowing is by comparing past questions of the 80's and the 90's to the ones of these immediate past years. And never forget that those who sat for exams then had no calculator and past questions. All they had was their syllabus and four figure tables.

The way optical mark recognition messes with scores is a factor. How to shade those omr scripts perfectly is not easy and no matter how you try some marks must be lost compared to CBT which is what you see is what you get.

My pastor daughter scored 109 in jamb and asked me which school will give her admission i replied sunday school. She's not happy

Children of nowadays are intelligent. ..agreed..but the difficulty level of jamb questions has reduced drastically

Medicine has always been a 270 plus course in places like UI and Unilag
People VERY commonly scored 100 in mathematics in the 80s

however the number of people taking JAMB has exploded with population

Of that number many may be taking it for the 2nd 3rd or 4th times
So there are "experienced" candidates
Also unless the syllabus changes frequently there is a limit to how questions can change on any given topic
If you score less than 250 then it is either you did not work hard or you are not bright. Also In my opinion you are not ready for University

English is a bonus subject as far as I am concerned and candidates should aim for at least 80 in English

Those days people depends on malpractice.
Most of those solved answers were incorrect.
Another factor was chaotic exams hall even when know what to write u end up not giving ur best.

Not it hasn't. People now study hard while JAMB refuse to change their questions. I had 266 in JAMB that year. They were questions I knew the answers before I finished reading. The thing is JAMB repeat questions

I have taught a number of students over the years .

I can tell you for a fact that students are now duller.

The exams are now easier. You also have the use of calculators compared to those days.
Past questions are also now everywhere.

Compare Jamb mathematics or physics 1999 with 2019.

The difference is clear.

Organised cheating..even among the intelligent ones.

The rate at which students make high scores nowadays in JAMB is something to understand.

In those days, people do not make such high scores, even the intelligent ones. Those days, you see very intelligent people scoring 265, 270, 280, etc; but today, I think the rate of 300+ seems higher.

So what is the factor? Is it that JAMB quality has dropped or Students are now more intelligent?

Probably more intelligent. Information is more readily available now, and even over the internet

The cube root of 27 is 3

Draw the special angles triangle by heart e. t. c.

That was how jamb was in the old days. And only the best could pass well.

But now due to a decline in standards, jamb has provided basic calculators to help the indomie generation.

Could be as a result of the CBT; garbage in and garbage out. There is no more issues with wrong shading and scanning issues. I have not however seen the nature of JAMB questions recently to know if it is also a factor.

If I may add, there was a time when you are not allowed to use calculator. Nowadays it's allowed.
