Are you able to put your points across without insults?

I still dont know why you are such in pains over someone decision to return home to continue his life.that you are still young now working/hustling and believing abroad represents your best bet doesn't mean you cant return home as well in future.people have reasons for their actions and we must respect that.must everyone lives and dies abroad?.

Again, not el dorado for me anymore and you’ve been consistently posting to attack my move back to Nigeria. Why, I don’t know, it’s not as it it’s a community project. Others have called you out on it too.

You don’t know what I’ve achieved or can achieve cause you’re not omnipotent wink
...

Baba,I ran through your thread and I can only wish you all the best in whatever path you choose to tread now.
Be grateful for the blessings because many came back with nothing and many couldn't afford to come back because they have nothing to show for the donkey years abroad.
Home would always be home and Nigeria is blessed only for those who can see the bigger picture.

Speak for yourself alone and not the thousands of returnees who are dying to return abroad.

Wow, so there are thousands of returnees? I never knew the number was that high! Nigeria must definitely be getting something right, or maybe abroad getting something wrong for thousands to be returning. But why are they 'dying to return abroad' instead of just going back easily? Were they deported or couldn't get a green card or what? From the OP's story, he sure could go back if he wanted. But why not the case for the other thousands if they weren't enjoying Nigeria? Something is not adding up.

People who have become successful abroad would at a point have a need to return home but if you are still caught in the rat race circle, then you got no choice and I believe the OP falls under the former.lets just wish him luck.

This is a beautiful thread sir. I'll implore you to ignore the naysayers to avoid derailing the thread.

My question to you is regarding investing while working abroad. How do you navigate that? Does it require monitoring by someone on ground here in Nigeria? And if so how do you know who to trust?

Enjoy your retirement sir.

Excellent point Sir, thanks.

Whatever you do, do not entrust friends and family.

My suggestion is this:

1) Stockpile war funds little by little into your local bank account (never use your Nigerian address where you live in at your bank). You can do this from the comfort of your phone in the USA or most other developed countries. This is crucial. Don’t wait for a huge sum. Even as little as $500 is something.

2) Don’t waste your vacation. Stockpile them and come to Nigeria once a year for at least a month.

3) Before you arrive, work with a lawyer and/or realtor to setup property views for you. You’ll use your Nigerian phone number for this because you’re not calling from USA but from Abuja wink

4) Then use the lawyer for final details. Lawyers too can steal or swindle but only the most foolhardy will do it in this modern Nigeria.

5) Don’t buy in forests, don’t buy from yahoo estate that are using Ponzi schemes. Instead look for already developed area with properties that have cofo.

6) I’ll never advise anyone to go into a business without being on the ground.

Good luck.

I’m glad you could see through his BS. He’s been incoherent and flailing about since the inception of the thread.

Why would I stay and surfer in Nigeria if I really wanted to return? I mean I could drive Uber and clean $1,500 (N540,000) per week?

There’s no legitimate returnee that’s suffering in Nigeria out of choice.

I’ve gotten many emails from folks abroad who are impressed by my choice. Some are waiting to make the move and sadly, to me, some have written Nigeria out of any future plans.

I know Nigeria is challenging but some abroad are off the opinion that we’re in dire straits, dodging bullets around and stuck inside.

Where did I say I was doing anything to help Nigerians? I’m not running a charity. But I’m sure the tens of millions I’ve individually pumped into the economy did not hurt Nigeria.

I came back to my dutiful home. I owe no explanation nor apology to anyone.

It’s much cheaper to retire to certain other countries than Nigeria for me.

You’re young still, so when you get to retirement age then you and I can have that conversation.

Sir, can you list out the countries please?

I’m really having a blast Sir. I feel pity for those who see nothing good about Nigeria.

I’ll be off next week to Saki to see how they make local iron pots. I have an idea that it’ll make for a good planter.

Some are hoping that I’ll join them in badmouthing Nigeria but the devil is a liar. We have crummy leaders but for the most part the citizens are the best. The culture is a outstanding. I can’t wait to go to Lokoja and see Rivers Niger and Benue.

Sir, be careful of hoodlums on your way to Saki. My younger brother almost got killed few months ago when he was going to army cantonment in Saki

Nice thread BTW smiley

Don't judge my journey based on your own perspective. I told you how mine went.

Top of the morning to you all.
Been following since the first page but a silent reader.

Some of us who are just starting out in our careers have been gaining some insights from here. It has really been beautiful reading @EgunMogaji2 experiences as someone who has seen life from both ends - the US and Nigeria.

This is not to attack anyone, but rather a plea. I would like to implore all of you to please let OP continue sharing his experience in peace. We do not get to see this sort of experience shared on nairaland frequently and the one we have has seen lots of pages riddled with posts that are of no benefit.

Na beg we beg, no be fight.

His children are in the custody of his 3x divorced wives who also collected his properties and funds in divorce court.. and that's why he had no choice but to return to Nigeria.

Moral of the story: never take the advice of anyone dumb enough to get married and divorced 3 times to three different women.. dude is on Nairaland preaching because he can no longer return to the states where he lost everything! OP has serious issues that he hasn't come to terms with yet. @EgunMogaji2 am I lying?

I joined retiree forums and I read up what people are doing. I posted a few links in posts above.

USA retirees has become such a booming business that many countries have carved out specific retiree based Visa class and some just created business visa that retirees are taking advantage of.

Practically most Asian and South American countries will offer good exchange rates.

Vietnam
Thailand
Cambodia
South Korea to some extent
Laos
Costa Rica
El Salvador

Just type retiree visa into Google.

Good luck.

Lockheed martin is doing a direct hire at downtown Omni Forth Worth hotel from 10am-5pm on Jan 9th.They are looking for 200 recent engineering graduates that majored in aeronautical, computer, electrical, mechanical, software and system Engineering and they are one of the best paying companies in the country. If you have any questions you can text 'lockheed martin' to 97211 for event details.Good luck
Thank you for the info.
I currently work in a company that does business related to LMC0's product line so getting a job there wouldnt be difficult IF I want to move there.

My current plan is to increase my relevant work experience and only move for Senior Engineering roles. Growing within most times na hard work, jumping ship makes more sense.

As for pay... From what I have been gathering on Gl4ssdoor, I THINK they pay similar to or less than I currently earn - big name company doesn't Usually translate to big salary except for the FANGs.

Sometimes, one just has to cut thru people's BS and keep posting...

For posts he doesn't get paid for?
About his story and decisions he made?

They can call it whatever they like but the antagonism is annoying. angry undecided

Sigh cry This is really unnecessary. Like clockwork, most threads on here slowly degenerate into personality clashes. Kudos to the OP for avoiding being sucked into it and sticking to the mission smiley. I am very much interested in the experience of folks that have moved back home in anticipation of doing it myself sometime in the near future. Please let's not discourage the OP from sharing. The other thing is that the advent of internet has made internet banking easy. With sites like BossRevolution and others, one can easily fund local bank accounts

I've been looking for an alternative to Western Union which I consider safe but occasionally gives me lots of hassles. How would you rate BossRevolution vs WesternUnion. Any other recommended online sites? My concerns are around safety of banking and credit/debit card information.

I hate Western Union, rates are not favorable and the fees are high.

I love BossRevolution for simplicity and speed. The fees are also very good. I think it was $3.99 to send up to $3K and they even waive that occasionally. I built my house primarily via BossRevolution and there was never an issue.

What I did was open a free checking at my local credit union and I use that account specifically for Naija stuff.

There are other money companies as you know and even some individuals on here but I prefer BR.
