Well said, Sir. Maybe that is why I do not make too much money in this market. I always wait to see the end before I consider putting my money into action. Lafarge Africa may be the revelation stock for the year 2020, but I will wait to see the Q4 before I make any move to buy it.

None of this was envisaged at the beginning of the year 2019, we may have to patiently wait for opportunities like this in 2020 if at all they will surface.
austinkenneth:
2019 seems to have been the year of special situations (mergers and acquisitions). Money was made chiefly from deals. Anyone who manged to play just 2 of these right was made for the year.

1. Access-Diamond merger
2. Dangote flour take-over
3. CCNN-BUA cement merger
4. UACN unbundling
5. Lafarge restructruing
6. Continental Re take-over

It seems it is mainly mergers and acquisitions and deals, more than fundamentals that drives gains.

CAN ANYONE SUGGEST WHAT MIGHT BE THE TOP DEALS GOING FORWARD INTO THIS YEAR?

Anyway, we wait and see how it goes. They already relocated to Afghanistan country of birth. grin grin grin grin since itrade doesn't work there for over a year of relocation.

Again the part in bold is why I always highlight the thing about how inherent RISK relates to feasible REWARD !!

Like I always tell folks;
"In finding the right equilibrium between RISK and REWARD(MoS with risk-return in view), the PRICE(u pay) for an asset is EVERYTHING !!"

...and hear this;
"When u see an asset of VALUE where the plausible rate of return/REWARD(MoS against potential ROI in view) has run @ a much faster pace than(@ premium to) the SUM OF its PRICE and surrounding RISK, RUN IN, because PRICE 'is ready' to chase VALUE !!"

The probability of getting it at this price after Q4(FY 2019 in view) is nearer to zero than 1.
...u may most likely pay a premium for it then.

There is what we call buying into an assets VALUE TRAJECTORY.
LARFAGE WAPCO is one of the coys that currently have one.
The company is presenting u with an opportunity to tap into value !!

Trust u still recall the post above.

There has been a reoccurance of mergers/aquisation or takeover/buyout and follow-up delisting of some quoted companies on the NSE bourse.
Over the yrs, the likes of NBC, BAGCO, IHS, CAPPA & D'ALBERTO, OASIS INSURANCE, CRUSADER INSURANCE, 7-UP, ASHAKA CEMENT, AVON CROWN CAPS, DIAMOND BANK, NEWREST ASL, DANGOTE FLOUR, CONTINENTAL RE, 1ST ALUMINIUM and most recently AG LEVENTIS to mention just a few, have either undergone a merger, aquisation or takeover/buyout. ...with the last 6 all brokered in less than a year !!
However, I think we might see a few more in the not-so-distant future.

Given the current position of their financial print(balance sheet position in view) in relation to their present equity prices, the following coys could be future candidates for a merger, aquisation or take over/buy out:

NEIMETH PHARMACEUTICALS, CHAMS, FO, GLAXOSMITHKLINE NIG, COURTVILLE, TRANEX(trans-nationwide express), UNIONDAC and BERGER PAINTS PLC.

Why?

1st off, is to ascertain if there are doubts surrounding the survival of these companies, so one doesn't lose their money taking(early) positions in them. And next, is to look in on their current earnings capacity, then gauge its relative sustainability over time.

On that line, keeping a tag on their OHLSONS O-SCORE(a key financial tool used to forecast if a company could go bankrupt), I see them remaining as a going concern. ...which makes them attractive candidates for 'external forces'(investors) who could bid to take them on at a cheap and turn them around.

...and using the EPP(earnings persistence approach: a valuation technique used to predict how often the earnings return of a coy will likely continue to reoccur over time after raking-off risk), I see a higher probability that any take over/buy out(should they occur) will be priced @ great premiums to their current market prices.
With some, at potential premiums of near 105% ROI !!

I particularly like the 1st 5.

On a side note, a few coys in the financial services sector, particularly the INSURANCE segment 'could also be up for grabs'... so watch that space !!

CAVEAT: This piece is only intended to look at quoted coys with chances of a merger, aquisation or takeover/buy out.
...it is NO licence to any sought of recommendation !!

My advise: Always do well to follow ur instinct.

Julius Berger should be able to do above N2 naira in dividend payments. Between Zenith Bank and Jb, I am confused as to what to buy. JB can easily get to N35 to N40 on the strength of stellar 2019 than Zenith Bank. Someone should help me here, please.

If you are really confuse spilt the money into two and buy the 2 grin tongue

I have looked at the two companies and both are buy for me.

However, giving the current market condition and the CP of both stocks, if I am to buy today JB will be preferred.

Zenith on a stand alone basis cannot go far in price if the general market condition is tepid. On the other hand, If JB declares a better than expected result, price can easily move up irrespective of the general market condition.

This is my personal opinion and I could be very wrong.

Note: The two stocks are in my portfolio with JB bought at a lower price than cp.

Divide the fund to 2 parts, put 60% of it in ZENITH and the other 40% in JULIUS BERGER.
...both are currently great coys with a fine foreseeable yield.

The latter' FY financial print(JB) will most likely come in real good.
They are presently on top of juicy contractual deals accross key states in the country.
In Port Harcourt, Rivers State(2 in Obio-akpo and 1 in PH LGA to be precise), the company is currently executing 3 gigantic fly-over bridge. ...with a 70% down payment already secured from the state government.(the gov confirmed this)
Somehow, LARFAGE WAPCO is also a part of the contract.(they are the coy contracted to supply cement)
Duration is for 18 months but I expect the cashflow should begin to reflect in their book starting from the last quarter(Sep-Dec 2019)

Also note the part in bold.
whether revenue gaps up or not, NET MARGIN should come in higher by Q4.
Just that I've not had the luxury of time to do a comprehensive analysis on WAPCO.
There was a planned article(titled: Larfage Wapco: A journey with value) that was meant to be a follow-up to my last article on DANGOTE CEMENT.
WAPCO will surprise many folks. ...with the last financial print, there are lots of positives that clearly paints a juicy path to value.
...if u know, u know !!

It is well.
