To add to my submission, I can tell you that even Private companies practice quota system. Yes they do. For example, a company that has offices in different part of the country would like to have employees from many part of the country to favor their business. But in doing so, they go for the best available from the recruitment screening.

Even in so called advanced countries. For example, even at institutions like Havard and Stanford, SAT score consideration can be lower for Black and Hispanic than for the white.

I put a picture of Maiduguri (Lagos Street) at night and people kept swearing I was out of the country, I am not even kidding. Those who know, know! There are mega schools in Maiduguri where kids are given free bicycles to go to school. Yes, that same Maiduguri that the only thing you hear about is insurgency. How can you ever know any of these if you don’t TRAVEL??
When they go to Kano they be wondering if that’s the same Kano they always hear about. But some of their brothers have lived there all their lives but they’ll never tell them what the true situation.

You’ll be shocked at the number of Yobe indigenes with a PhD, very young guys. An awful lot of them have been drafted in the present state administration silently making their contributions towards growing their state and gaining a good head start at the game of politics.

Nasir El-Rufai is even smarter than the rest. He has, through his Kashim Ibrahim Foundation, rallied sound minded young northerners across all disciplines, home and abroad to coach them on governance and attached them in his government.

If you go to some states in the south you’d swear there hasn’t been governance for long. If you see some of the roads down there..! The second niger bridge, Something of 1.6km, no one from that region could champion the delivery of that project, with all the federal allocations and 13 percent derivations of neighbouring states, until a northerner came through. Yet, at the slightest instance.. insults!

Now let me tell you, you see this Quota System of a thing? It is a tool for ensuring inclusiveness in anything.. Educational Institutions, Governance, Recruitment etc. Countries like Belgium, Germany, France, Iceland, India, Norway, Malaysia etc, have one form quota system or the other. I have lived in 4 countries and my experience is that governments do what brings balance to their system and ensure peace.

What we need to embrace as a people is the culture of contentment. Even if the whole 1050 successful are picked from one state, some people will still not get. You’ll have the first class, ace the aceables and still not get for one reason or the other.
Let’s stop blaming our mishaps on others. Maybe you’re not all that yourself.

Let me tell you this, the peculiarity of our own Quota System is such that it actually protects both sides. FCC ensure for example that a northerner in-charge of affairs doesn’t short-change southerners by skewing outcomes. In the end, whatever magu magu you do, so so number MUST come from each state and their representative State Commissioners in FCC will confirm if they’re their indigenes or not. You think there’s no wisdom in that?
Me thinks Federal Character is actually a tool for ensuring process merit in a complex setting like Nigeria.

Let me give you a short answer; southern universities hardly admit northerners. But northern universities do. I had 249 jamb score years back when jamb was jamb and I’d put UI first choice and ABU second choice. UI flat refused me admission while ABU said why did I put them second. Lol. I lost out that year.

Your experience is probably little that’s why you zones down to universities with reference to the wandering thing. I am talking life in general.

How can you be boastful of a jamb score or 249? So you think a jamb score of 249 would place among the best scoring students? you just confirmed all we have been saying. The standard is really low there. For your info, before you consider yourself to be among the best in jamb for any of the school's in the south, you should be looking at scores of 270 and above.

The funds were being provided by PTDF when PTDF is itself a scholarship awarding body. Are you now saying these ones have 3 or 4 brains that the PTDF scholars didn’t have?

There’s also Tetfund scholarship and the Bilateral scholarship agreement as well as the commonwealth scholarship, NLNG, NDDC, NITDA and even NNPC scholarships.. all targeting bright Nigerians.

The cut off mark for UI at the time was 200. My Masters and PhD are 4 years apart. I have 6 years working experience. I’ll leave you with the math.

By your analogy, it means you couldn’t get admitted in any southern university, hence your choice of ABU. Which also means you’re not bright.
