THE SEQUEL Dibz's POV I stared blankly at the man seated in front of me, then back to tracing the circular cuffs on my wrists. He was probably talking about some scheme to get me out of here but when you've had your hopes dashed on numerous occasions then maybe you'd understand my nonchalant towards whatever it was he's saying now. I've been in this hellhole for three years eight months now and it's been quite the adventure. My first months here was mostly spent in the prison clinic, here people just attack you just for being a new face, my case was even worse when they found out I was the son of one the richest men in the country, that earned me automatic hatred from almost everybody. Not to talk of, the inmates paid by Hailey's dad to teach me a lesson. It was all tears each time my mum visited, my face looking worse everytime she came around. She tried to buy me protection here by bringing a whole catering company to serve these bloodsuckers each she visited but they just ate and broke my ribs few hours later. One time, I was cornered in the bathroom by some inmates, I screamed for a guard but the idiot just looked and walked away, he'd prolly been bribed they all held me down while the one of them pulled off his trousers ready to penetrate my anus, I tried to free myself all to no avail till I heard a faint voice. "Let him go now", the voice said softly but in a deadly tone. The fools looked towards the direction of the voice and their faces paled. Quickly, they left me and took to their heels. I squinted my eyes to get a closer look at my saviour and I gasped. He was Drago. The rumor was that he was a Russian assassin hired by all these politicians but was some how caught in an operation by the Nigerian military. Pretty weird right? Anyway he was always by himself and no one really messes with him, I hadn't even heard him say a word till now. That's how I started to roll with Drago, he taught me martial arts and other hard stuff. It wasn't easy at all, majority of the time I spent in the clinic was because of him, but eventually it all paid off. I toughened up and no one, I mean no one could mess with me again. Me being so vengeful, revisited every single inmate who had causes me trouble one way or other, let's just say they knew not to mess with me again. Debbie was a bit traumatized when I got here earlier, she couldn't eat or talk for a long time, she only talked when she came to see me which was everyday and the frequent visits began to scare my parents so they flew her abroad to get away from everything for a while. Poor Debbie, she prolly blames herself for introducing Hailey to me. She even had to go to Hailey's residence to beg for my release, it really hurt me when I heard all this, I felt guilty and forced the warden to get me off the visitation list. I didn't want my family to keep on suffering because of me. I even heard the company took a hit because of the scandal I caused as a result of my naiveness. A lot of investors pulled out and the company lost a couple billion dollars. My dad cautioned and warned me not to try and block us out again, that we had to stick together as a family. He really tried for me, always trying to pull strings to get me out but all to no avail. Eventually the stress of my case and that of running the company almost single handedly caught up with him, as he developed heart issues that almost cost him his life. My mum insisted he flew to abroad for proper treatment which he tries to oppose but we all knew it's useless trying to argue with my mum. He agreed but not before prepping me up to take over, from prison. He arranged with the head warden to allow me take lectures with an old professor friend of his at Lagos Business School. It took me twenty months to finish my sessions, i really learnt alot and also my Dad also added his own lessons too. Honestly, I wasn't really up for all these but seeing how my dad has stood for me during these times, this was the least I could do. The fact that this lawyer was in front of me now saying what I wasn't listening too is also as a result of my Dad's relentless pursuit for my freedom, I know he means well and all but I just can't bear to have my hopes squashed one more time. Blueblood had some sort of merger with Harvard who wanted to extend to the African suburbs, a university was established with BlueBlood as a subsidiary of Havard. In a bid to invest more in the country's education, the top elites sent their kids to this school, including all my friends and ....Fola too and I remained the convicted dropout. The guys have been pretty supportive, always visiting and keeping me up with the latest gists. Josh was the most frequent of them all, dude obviously misses me or so I thought, till I caught him flirting with one of the female officers. Victor had pretty much been Victor, always chasing everything in skirts. Thank God he and Debbie didn't work out. Femi's case is a bit similar to mine except that he was not in jail. His dad left them for another woman , he had to step up for his mum and little brother and then he also had school to deal with. Tiara, my fave visitor, always lively and with burgers each time she visited. She didn't make feel like a victim at all and that was what I liked the most. A big pity she and Josh are still running around in circles with each other. Fola hadn't come to see me again since the last time she was here, she really meant what she said about not wanting to see me again. I really loved her ,heck I still do but i can't do anything about someone who claimed to love me but couldn't even give me the benefit of doubt. I heard she's with Henry again, and that they seem happy, good for them but now I'm all about reinventing and developing myself to be better at everything I do.......... "So your papers would be through by weekend and you'd be a free man again, feels good right?", the man said, jolting me back to the present. Oh, I forgot this dude is still here, what does he want now? "Huh, what did you say?", I asked politely. "You mean you didn't hear a single word I said all this while?", Dude asked . "I wouldn't be asking you to repeat yourself if I did", I deadpanned abit rudely. I just wanted to go back to my cell, I wasn't really up for another hope squashing scheme any longer. He sighed after some seconds, and began packing up his files with a bit of a frown marring his face. After picking up the last file, he looked up at me and said, " The president had pardoned some prisoners on good behaviour conduct and you were in the list too, your papers would be through by the weekend, you're a free man now"..............TBC 3 Likes |

Dibz's POV "No mum, you can't be serious right now", I said to my mum. "Pls Hun, try to understand the situation here, if you don't agree to this then there's no way you'd be able to run the business in your dad's absence. It's been clearly stipulated in the by laws that one has to have at least a college certificate or a college admissions list to assume any executive position in the company", she pleaded. " This is so stupid, I'm the owner of the company, why can't I just run it the way I please mum. I can't go back to school now mum, please don't make me", I begged. "I'm sorry baby, I know it's really hard for you, I can't imagine what you're going through now having such responsibilities on your young shoulders now but please just try, please for your father. You know most of the investors left and these remaining ones won't just let someone that didn't or isn't in college be in charge of their investment". "Then why don't you become CEO , you have all the qualifications and they'd even respect you more?", I countered. "Oh baby, your dad needs me to be with him through his treatment, I'm only here now to help you get settled in and then fly back to see him these threatening phase of his life, please understand". Its been a week now since I was released from jail. I must say it's abit strange being at home again after all this time, for example, the bed just feels off; I've been sleeping on the floor since I came back, it's more comfortable now. Mum has been stuffing me food at every interval, she really wants to ruin these muscular physique Drago and I suffered to build. I've been to the spa twice in just this week I've been around, mum thinks I lost my complexion in jail too. Then there's the issue with my beards, she's tried all she could to make me shave off all my beards but nah, I was having none of it. I just trimmed it a little, it signified the part of my life that I was forced to live in jail, to become a man in jail and I'm not just going to throw that piece of my life away like it never happened. One of the best parts of jail was that we never got time to barb our hairs so mine was over grown, quite busy if I might add. Again mum sort to shave it all off but I disagreed, she suggested that I atleast stretch it and pack it high kinda like how Zlatan Ibrahimovic has his hair, and boy did it look good on me. "Alright mum, you win I will go to school, even if I have to face the humiliating fact that while I'm entering my mates would prolly be graduating already. Thank God, I wouldn't be in the same school with them, I'd just die, so when am I travelling?", I asked, resigned to my fate. "Uhmm....about that", my mum began. Now she's beginning to sound weird. "Your dad and I decided that since you still have to oversee things at the company, it'd be best if you schooled here in Nigeria, in the best university here", she finished. Why, just why did they have to always have a say in everything I do. I appreciate the fact that they were there for me during my tough times but that's just what they are supposed to do cus they are my parents and it's their job but that doesn't give them to right to choose everything for me, no it not just right. Hmmm, i just have to do this for them tho, even now that dad's fighting for his life all because of the stress my case put him through. "OK mum, which school did you guys pick?" I asked, after a long sigh. "Uhmm honey", she said playing with her fingers like a schoolgirl talking to her crush. "That's kinda the hard part,.....it's ....it's... Havard BlueBlood College", she said slowly. I died......tbc 4 Likes |
