While in Edo State I took recipe of the Owo soup from different market women...

Then in Delta state they said is pronounced Owoh and they gave me their own recipe...

The Delta's eat theirs with starch... while mostly the Edo people eat theirs with boiled yam and Plantain..

This was just my research... I'm not an Edo or Delta man, so you might know better.

As a delta man, your owo soup recipe seemed strange to me sef.

Nothing do you boss.

I find your versatility in the kitchen quite fascinating. You might not believe it, but i joined nairaland just so i could access your village diary.

But just like d isoko lady, tomatoes in owoh soup is a first for me. Starch is added as thickener, in place of Garri you listed. There's even a special palm oil for it that looks like d bottom oil you mentioned.

I have zero issues with your ingredients. Its just that i fear d presence of tomatoes takes away the nativeness of the soup. But then i guess part of being a good chef is the ability to play around recipes.

Akposy you don chop owoh with tomatoes before?

I'm not sure I have cos I don't know how to prep the soup. My favorite is Banga soup with starch.

At home, my name is kitchen Rat because you always see me in the kitchen Cooking, writing recipes, researching, most times I do forget myself and sleep in the kitchen cheesy

Have been to Edo and Delta State, I can't give out recipe without researching, cooking or asking the locals questions. Even some people do add oil and starch while cooking this soup.

Photo below was from the recipe I gave out, please kindly read it again... Thanks
When cooking mine...I add a little liquidfied starch as thickner...native salt and correct local special oil.
And a little throw of potash.

But I ve never heard or seen owo soup duced with tomatoes.
Kinda strange tho!
Anyways happy Easter to us all.

I don't like cooking this soup again,Cox my husband hardly let me eat to fill...the guy go dey pursue me to leave the food for him
He go even snatch the starch.

Thanks very much I appreciate.

In my recipe I said Edo and Delta.... The Edo people can't cook Owoh soup without adding tomatoes.. while I said he should check it on YouTube first before cooking because Recipes varies..

I think I made a mistake not adding "Optional" beside the Tomatoes.
I never knew the Edo people eat owoh soup. I'm learning things...thanks Chef

Thanks Dyt....no do abracadabra collect my food o grin
Thanks Mariangeles... my head day swell now

You can o,it's very simple to cook.
Owo soup has its own special oil...not the regular oil sold in the open market

You could always source for it...asked those women that sells native condiments.

Wow!
Recipe please
Did you fry or bake?

½ + ⅛ cup garri
¼ cup sugar
½ cup milk (liquid...I mixed powdered milk and water)
⅛ cup veg oil or coconut oil
¼ cup crushed groundnut (I used the #50 wrap)
½ tsp mixed spice or cinnamon powder
Pinch of salt

Mix all the ingredients together except the garri
Gradually fold in garri in the mix
Roll out and cut with your cutter
Bake in a preheated oven for about 25 - 30 mins. It all depends on the temp

Kindly note, the mix will not come together like a dough, you have to be careful when rolling and cutting. You can also use shredded coconuts..I didn't have else I'd have used them.
Thanks
