Well, humans (not just Africans) should imbibe the habit of diligence. You decidedly missed the point in the present case by trying to adopt the posture of the defender of the victimized. I wasn't paid, neither was I expecting to be paid really.

On a general note I don't think honesty or decency should have monetary reward as its motivation. But then this is strictly a personal opinion.
