Oga, all hope is NOT lost! If you have a bank you bank with or under special arrangement, meet with the bank manager and discuss with him on cash swap. The bank will carefully identify and select notes with visible numbers and change them for you. Periodically, banks take genuine mutilated, defaced and bad currency notes to the CBN after swapping for destruction. Although for that amount of money, I don't think swapping them would be entirely free, but all hope is not lost! Thank me later. Should I send my account number?

Sorry for your loss brother. On the brighter side, not all parts of each note is burnt. Do some cutting and joining, I bet you will be able to recover 5 to 10% of ur money(pun intended)

I think a bank can still be of help. The ones with the serial numbers can still be returned to the Central Bank and changed for new notes.....however you will lose some of the value by paying a service charge.

Nairasurplus:
I don't believe the money was in a savings box. Before you insert any note in a savings box, you need to fold it many times. Looking at the burnt naira notes, they were not folded at all. OP it appears the notes were not in a savings box.
Na only you get sense so far. Look closely at the images and you can see its a poor photoshop job.

Better days ahead, move on.....but then why the fire no consume most of the whole notes, just the edges? angry abi the safe dey keep the money in stacks? I no understand
Brilliant observation, it's only in stacks that the notes will burn at the edges, even when the whole sides of the box was burnt, some notes will still have one of its side not burnt, I want to believe that this story is a cooked one

Please keep these pieces together and wait till post COVID-19, then take it to any bank and explain ur plight. I believe banks have a way of returning them back to CBN. Just be hopeful, something good might still come out of it.

Very bad. His poor risk management ability has cost him his wealth. We all need to take a crash course on risk management.

This is what some people will call to lose guard.
He would have saved in an iron box or put in the bank. In fact, the way we live need risk management apart from business. I know a lot of you reading this comment who lose guard on another key areas of your life.

1) Do you check your homes properly to know if there are holes where reptiles would come in to attack your family?

2) Do you check your doors every night before you sleep?

3) Do you ensure no wet floor for your kids if your homes are tiled?

4) Do you check for naked power cables at your home to avoid electric shocks?

5) Do you always check your gas cylinders for leakages?

6) Do you ensure no generator set smoke enters your home?

7) Do you keep fuel containers close to your home?

Please be careful. Please be safe. In life think twice and think of risks before embarking on any ventures. God bless you.

Nigerians are too "charges" sensitive.

Tell them to pay security levy of N500 per month na wahala forgetting that the Flat screen TV or even your Phone that will be taken away can pay for the monthly security levy for 7 or 8 years.

It is a function of our mentality.

Kindly take the remains to any Bank or your bank preferably, tell them they got damaged in a fire but their serial numbers are still showing, they should be able to help in changing defective notes. It’s well with you.
