That is not my definition of a top earner.

But it has got to start from somewhere.

The idea is to make sure nobody goes home with less than 50 thousand.

Those on the grade level earning 67k will lose approx 17k.
The next grade level to them earns 50k.

So everybody gets at least 50k.

They have not been working and have not been spending transport money.

And of course those earning very big will forfeit very big.

If your pay is 500k you will donate 125k.
If you earn 800k you will donate 200k.
If you earn 1 million you will donate 250k.

The only problem I see is if the money gets diverted and not given to the millions who are poor,
Who do not even earn 500 naira in 1 week.

You guys can wail and cry all you want,

But I say God bless El Rufai for this initiative.
They haven't been spending money. Na u dey feed his aged parents, unemployed siblings etc for him.
Some people even have chronic medical conditions and use chunk of their monthly income on drugs.
Smh for Nigerians.

How about they come up with the money from the millions they've looted? Nigerians that are already getting a bad deal from the govt is who they should be taxing? No constant light, High food prices and now a pay cut. Great, continue the support. The chicken always comes to roost eventually.
Even if they refuse to loot again! The government doesn't have enough money to feed 200 million people with Almost 80% of the population already living in poverty before economic activities were shut.

The Western world have important safely nets and majority of the working population pay direct taxes. And in the case of America, they can just raise the debt limit and print more money.

Here in Nigeria, the government depends on crude oil sales which has nose dived and economic activities are dead as a result of the lock down, So no taxes.

Thus, how exactly do you want the government to raise money?

so 50k is not enough? What does a family of 5, for example, need that 50k cannot buy in a month?

Ehhhh!
Just read this comment. I beg of you, don't quote me again. Cannot have any agreeable discussion with a person whose view is that 50k is sufficient for a family of 5 angry

God you just have to intervene because health system has no capacity for rapid testing due to inadequate resources, social distancing is not working effectively, lockdown is unsustainable because government cannot meet people's needs.Mercy, mercy and mercy Lord.

They should simply revert to their previous loots, very simple. It is on this same NL we've read of recoveries running into millions and billions. Here is the time for EFCC to show those are real figures ehn. No citizen should be made to pay the price of an irresponsible thieving govt.

You guys are playing the ostrich.

You are still not getting the real picture of things in NIgeria.

You are campaigning and advocating for no more than 500,000 people who have been told to earn 50k and above in one month,

Forgetting about another one million people who do not even have access to 2k in one whole month.

You guys think na! Think!!

Okay now, let us continue to justify whatever crap the govt offers and refuse to learn from those getting it right "because we do not have the resources they do". The same govt where individuals loot millions and billions is not penalizing citizens. Why should the citizens be the ones to cater for the needy?

The fact is that the government cannot afford to do it. Learning from those getting it right does not mean jumping from 0 to 100. whatever you see happening in the west today, was built 100 years ago! A strong democracy and a strong economy were built up while we were still in colonization. We cannot simply emulate them just like that! Is this not obvious?

We need african-made solutions to peculiar challenges. That does not mean that there are no things to complain about, but this one is not it. Not today.

We never see any good things from any actions of our leaders. I think what El-Rufai did is necessary at this period. The workers are not going to work due to lockdown, i do not think there is a need for full payment, beside it is to cushion other areas that need attention this time. It is a temporary measure and government does not need dialog on every issue.

I seriously don't agree with my governor on this.

We know for a fact that one of the reasons for corruption in Nigeria is low take home pay by workers. Civil servants cannot afford to build a house, buy a car or at least afford standard 3 square meals. This gives rise to poverty among civil servants who will either find alternate ways to make ends meet of take.

With Civil servants exempted from state or federal parliatives, and then price of food stuff has increased 60% in the past weeks then a forced salary cut. When the government is supposed to even give additional parliatives, they have decided to transfer their burden of providing health care facilities, affordable infrastructure and the other state responsibility to civil servants. It is absolutely wrong and very insensitive of the governor.

If any Civil servant that has a 100k salary with a loan of any kind say 30k, the person will be left with less than 50k and then have to spend more since price of food has gone up. At the rate of 60% surge on food prices, the civil servant will be left with 20k. That means hardship.

60% of food price surge plus 25% state deduction means a civil servant salary drops by 85%! That is highly wicked of the governor.

My dear that is your business o.

The state is in lockdown and you are mentioning transport, clothes, school fees, and generator.
Transport to where?
Who is buying clothes at this time? to go where? From bedroom to parlour?
Which school is open?

Can you see that you are not thinking?
So someone that was earning 68k before was using generator comfortably?

This one keeps talking about loot loot loot.

The whole loot recovered in Nigeria cannot feed even only 50 million Nigerians in one week.

Except you want them to give each family of 5 one Indomie and one egg to share.

That is chasing a lost cause cheesy

Every Nigerian politician dead or alive or even retired would have to give away 90% of their wealth.

And it would be a long legal battle too, people would have died before then.

Let's just hope that they don't loot the money they are generating now.

Thanks for breaking it down for them. We just love to decieve ourselves in this country. Lagos should follow so it can share reasonable palliatives to every house in Lag and extend the lockdown. The resources of the state should be shared among citizens at this period. A civil servant getting 50k without going to work should appreciate. So many private workers are at home with no salary. And to even think it was revenue generated from private coy and other informal sectors that will be used to pay civil servant makes it a good idea. Without private sector and informal workers, the govt of a state cant employ much. We all need one another to survive this war
To me this is fair.

Anyway, it is their headache, govt should sort itself out and stop tasking already suffering citizens.

Don't mind these hypocrites.

Assuming 40 million families in Nigeria,
I bet 30 million families don't even have 10k for a month,
They are here complaining about 50k.

Did you ask the poor and daily earners this question?

In some states, they've been in lock down for up to 1 month.

Selfishness will destroy this country. Every one is making sacrifices for the public good. This is your sacrifice!
