Disagree with that.

My issue is not that the needy are not to be catered for, my issue is where that should come from. Especially in a country where people are already suffering from bad governance - bad healthcare, bad roads, no light. Now you are asking them to make sacrifices? Have they not made enough? The govt should sort itself out and leave the people out of it.

Are you saying we should wait until healthcare, roads, electricity, and other problems are fixed before we cater for those who've been the short end of the stick for the last month and would be for the next month?

Abi are you the only one suffering from bad governance? Everyone is. All El-Rufai is asking you to do is to help watch out for your fellow citizens by donating 25% of your take home pay. Everyone is pitching in. Do your part!

You're acting like if a teenage pregnant kid runs to you to take her to the hospital; you'll ask her to wait for her parents or partner. Do what you have to now. This rage you're feeling, which I completely understand, is only a fraction of the rage daily earners are feeling when told they can't go out to earn something for the next 30 days. So bite on a bullet, these are not normal times for anyone.

You are very right bro,El rufai is one of the few leader that makes a tough decision in hard time over public interest as far as it justify human development. He took some hard decision in Abuja then and lay a good foundation with good structure for next president, see the structure of Abuja city now.I will vote him even as president anytime any day,his action here really justify it.

This's the best direction sofar, in as much the money is directed to the right places. Only, if Buhari can do this to federal workers nationwide, then there will be respect to total lockdown for a period of a month and by God grace we would contain the virus. The 25% will be palliative to more than 150million nigerians.

If El rufai removes 25% of any puublic servant or political appointee's salary before paying them then it is theft.
Some of the aforementioned persons give out more than 50% of their salary to help extended family relations.
Logically speaking, the number of extended family relations that would call to seek help under this lockdown would increase and the hike of things in the market would also make the monetary request by extended family relations to go high.
Logically speaking, he can remove any percentage of salary from his political appointees but not from public servants because they were employed based on their qualifications and not appointed.
Some of the public servants even started working before he came to power or has the coronavirus disrupted his sense of belonging?
Other countries are paying everyone stipends to stay at home and in Kaduna, Nigeria a governor who just recovered from the coronavirus is saying he wants to remove 25 percent salary from public servants who earn up to 67,000 .
The public servants lawful duty is to pay tax any other stuff like charity giving should be done by the individual himself or herself after collecting his or her salary.
Imagine a family of Eight including parents surviving under this lockdown with fifty thousand naira per month (is it not absurd) ?
It had rather be a joke, otherwise that state would start reporting high number of crimes daily. He should think twice before making such decision so that Robin hoods won't emerge in that state once that decision is turned into reality.

People like you are one of the problems will have on this country. Nobody (not even govt) has the right to take from your salary without your consent. This was not done in a military regime. They have funds that they can source from to do whatever they want to do. They have billions of naira as security votes. So, because civil servants are staying at home, it means they don't have what to use money for? Do you know that with this lockdown, food consumption in the house will increase? Aside house rents and school fees waiting to be paid.

Can you please tell me what the Kaduna state govt has done thus far? What do they intend to use the Money for? Build hospitals? Buy testing kits? Distribute palliatives to the poor? So, what exactly do they want to use the money for?

You call yourself a civil servant working for the public. Oya part with a fraction of your compensation to help support the public; you're ranting. This is what the servant in your job title means.

Although to be fair, it'd be better if those in the well-paid private end and federal public/civil servants join this initiative. For instance, all Telcos should be made to part with same 25% or more.

Palliatives are given according to capacity. Let's get very objective for a second.

1. The deduction from those who have is going directly to those who do not have. So yes, the governor is indeed feeding the entire State.

2. By what standard are you comparing Nigeria and the USA? Nigeria has a GDP of 400 billion USD. USA has a GDP of 20 trillion USD. Does your comparison make sense to you?

3. Everything you listed about mortgages and health insurance has no bearing on the current issue.

It is easy to say but is impossible to do it. He is not going to give the money to anybody, trust me.

They brought state parliatives, I saw how it was shared. They distributed the state parliatives to LGAs, LGAs shared to Wards and then from wards it landed in the hands of APC ward leaders. The ward leaders divided the entire parliatives into 2 brought out half. Gave bag of semo to a woman, a carton of noodles to her son, 4 litres of vegetables oil to her daughter meanwhile her husband is the ward chairman. Other families received i cup of oil and 2 or 3 noodles. In 1hr, everything has finished.

Later that night, the APC ward chairman's son was seen pushing a wheel barrow with 5bags of semo and 5 cartons of noodles plus other items. It took him 3 trips from their house to the store.

The state thought they shared parliatives but no, this man does not eat semo in his house. He has never been able to afford them so he called Emeka the shop keep and sold everything to him for cash.

This is the reality. You can desire it but you cannot execute it. You can only show the food on TV that you provided but it will not get to where it needs to get. The politicians end up with 25% in their pockets.

What ever parliatives that isn't in form of cash or service, ends up in the wrong place.

Even if he buys 5 million testing kits, 2 million will end up in a private clinic or pharmacy that citizens will still pay for.

Are we comparing GDP? If the American GDP is giving parliatives of $1000, the smaller Nigerian GDP should consider giving $0-100 not to take from citizens.

So you think if 25% is deducted, they will not deduct loans, tax, contribution, levies etc? How do they become irrelevant when they will be deducted still and still miss use every as per usual.

All those deductions for years didn't provide what they need to provide health insurance or good infrastructure, certainly and month or 2 of heavy deductions will certainly not do anything. Just another fund to be looted while citizens become poorer.

Are you aware that a civil servant in Kaduna state with a salary of 100k is at the level of assistant director? In the average, such a person should have less than 15yrs to retire so should be of the mid to late 40's. That means the person should have an average family size of 6 with atleast 4 being adults. After all deductions and the rise in food price, they will be left with 20-30k to feed for 30days.. say. 25k/6=4k

Each person of the house hold member will be left with less than N150/day to feed the entire month.

That is serious poverty that the governor plunged an assistant director!

You have no idea how messed up Nigeria is.

It's difficult to have sympathy for your position when you can't bring yourself to have empathy for others who are not doing as well as you.

It is temporary. You still get to keep 75% of your salary when millions have been sacked or have their wages slashed massively. It's for the most vulnerable. It'd apply to civil and public servants who earn more than you.

Dear, you might be a decent person; an amazing wife, mother, sister, daughter or whatever; and a law-abiding citizen; but your sense of civic responsibility is lacking.

You have no idea how messed up Nigeria is.

You have to realize no one will dispute what you've said.

The point is to make provisions. No society is immune from fraud. In the US, Social Security costs 1 trillion annually. Still, fraud and errors cost billions. That's essentially the pinnacle of modern civilization.

So if you're saying we shouldn't do anything because ignoble elements will exploit it, we might as well close shop, sell the country and let every one go home with his/her share. We can raise the issue of poor disbursement and have the churches, mosques, and CSOs handle the process. Besides, if the poor cannot tackle their immediate representatives, that's their own prerogative. We'd not do everything for them.

But something should be done, rather than just tell them to shutter in place, then tell them we'd do nothing because it wouldn't get to them. That's insincere and asinine.

As for the civil servant who has responsibilities. So do the poor who've been asked not to work for everyone's safety. Sympathy should apply to everyone.

His comment is senseless .If people don't go to work doesn't mean they would not eat lunch. Moreover the prices of most essential commodities have increased including public transportation fare who have been commanded to carry only one at the front and two at the back. Guess who pays for those empty seats,it is the masses who board the public transports that pay for the empty seats.
A journey of 500 naira will now be 850 or in some cases 800 naira depending on the mood of the driver at that moment.
Logically, if he (the driver) had carried his usual 5 he would have collected 2500 from all the passengers but because he has been instructed to carry only 3 persons ,those three persons have to pay extra transport fares for their journey.
