A friend of mine, a man, just got engaged. He is 34. On our "group of friends" WhatsApp group, someone mentioned that the guy is marrying too late. It started a whole debate. The guy getting married at 34 defended himself that he waited until he had money, as starting a family is no joke, financially. Some people were arguing that one should just get married at 25 and everything will fall into place. I got married at 30 and people on the group were also blasting me that I got married a bit late. I am a man also What do you guys think? Please, mature responses |

I wish people would understand that word "money" If I was a yoruba guy, I would have gotten married right now at 28 because only a Yoruba woman is ready to start small with you and watch it grow. How can you expect a father to give his daughter's hand in marriage to a man who can't even rent a 2 bedroom apartment easily with a car to boot when said girl is living in mansion and her papa has two cars. Bearing in mind that an average Igbo man is well to do and expects such from his in-laws. (Forget those that are poor and demand the world for bride price. CsRockefeller: Like I said, stability is key. Even if the Father helps out, he can't do past the marriage rites. Now imagine husband having to deal with wifey complaining about not starving in her former house as if the man should kill himself. Is it not better that they didn't marry than to be quarrelling cause of money? The solution would be for everyone to tighten belt after this pandemic. But like I said, well to do families will typically not adhere to this rule. My advice: hustle ooh and marry when you're comfortable financially .3 Likes |

whitelotus: There is No particular age carved on stones as to when its suitable to get married.. Its true time waits for no one but then marriage should be done at one s time and convenience. I think we nigerians lay so much emphasis on it's ceremonial aspect and put aside its challenges that lay ahead which is the real thing. So there is absolutely nothing wrong in a guy hooking up at 34...its more or less the perfect timing if u ask me. Please note that its important for a guy to be comfortable before going into marriage considering the state of our country Nigeria..and if that ll take him longer to achieve, he had better take it so...trust me, no man wants to see his wife n kid suffer. 2 Likes |

Early marriage is good sha, sometimes I wish I married in my 20's. The truth is that it costs money to start a family. If it was just me and wifey, we can always manage. Where the issue comes is when you have kids. Kids don't take excuses, they must eat, go to school and they deserve a decent accommodation and clothing. The point is that men should marry only when financially stable. Never bow to pressure because even your parents will not provide money for you except they are extremely rich. If we are talking about ideal settings where all things are been equal 25yrs is perfect for a guy, but with this Nigeria situation 30 is not bad n I don't think 34 is bad too. Naija is for hard guys now. I think one should not wait too long after getting a reasonable n secure job, like a year after is enough, there is no need waiting to save one big money. Guy it's personal thing or goal. I set a personal target when I was in the University that I would marry by a particular age at most. Infact I never had a gf prior then. I told my self that any girl I see at that age I would marry(as far as I like what I see). Infact the lady had everything going against her including my parents. Guy we married. I had a friend that married at 25 years too that was his target. Immediately he got a job, he married. He resigned and went for piloting after few years in marriage. Today he's a pilot.
