Tell me your Master skills is not helping your business

You already have a job my brother , no be by force to work for person business. You are a CEO and working ya own business using your Master's skills. It ain't a waste then.

Dangote works in his business and he has MBA to sharpen his brain. His MBA would definitely contributed to his expansion and going Mega-Mutinational .... Atleast His CFO, COO will not cheat him since he understand the professional language of business himself.

May God help Us in Naija .... Our mentality is the number 1 bane of being gainfully employed .... Most all attended school for the wrong reasons.

Pls can you tell me why u don’t advise someone going for professional masters? Cox i was planning on going for it but due to the situation had to pause, pls shed more light
Professional Masters limits you. The qualification is not acceptable for lecturing/Research positions. You may likely do a project instead of an academic research which is publishable in reputable international journals and presentable in conferences. This is where you meet people that matter in your field.
Good research can qualify you for grant, PhD scholarship etc.
Professional Masters is fast, can be completed in a year but it will limit you.

One thing you should know, though, is that when the time comes to get that job, that promotion, that appointment, and you need a Master's or higher degree and you don't have it, boom!

The opportunity is gone and given to the one who has. Talking from experience. Do what you can, while you can.

This was my ideology for undergoing my M.sc ... Don't pursue academics or professional qualifications with sole purpose of blue collar jobs ... what a wrong aims .....

I have a igbo friend who has concluded his M.sc and still sitting in his shop selling Gas and electronics..... Very soon You will see Ekene International..... He will become employer of labour.... With his M.sc if he rise and their is appointment opportunities, he will take it and nobody will disqualify him due to lack or dearth of education....

What I learnt from M.sc Accounting and My ICAN hustle as well as all the money I invested could never have been otherwise profitable .... The knowledge base and maturity is immense ....

No one is an Island but there is a mental paradigm shift in me ....

Kindly share your experience as a Msc Accounting and Chartered Accountant. I intend pursuing my ICAN and MSC too.

Professional Masters doesn't qualify you for PhD only M.sc qualifies you for PhD ...

For instance if you plan to advance your academic career and you stuck on Your professional Master, (No job mantra) you won't be able to use it to progress further in academic pursuits...

That's the only technical reason I see .... any other reason is an Allusion caused by Nigerian Mindset of always working for somebody in somebody's business....

Do ur passion , once it's done you won't regret a damn thing.

I don't understand what you guys mean by having '2' Masters degrees. Please can someone explain better....you go for 1 MSC program, come out and instead of upgrading to a PhD, u decide to go for another masters? I don't get it, please explain. Anyone is allowed to explain it, lol
some people mistakenly pursued Professional Masters later they realised they can't advance their study then they pursue academic Masters aka M.sc in order for them to further into PhD ....

Also, Academic enthusiasts can dabble into Multiple Masters e.g M.sc Accounting can also venture into M.sc Business Analysis and MBA Business Economics ...

That is 3 Masters within a field "Management Science"

It's all depends on your area of specialization. I will strongly advice you go for a professional certification that is related to ur course of study before going for your master. In terms of Job placement and prospect, someone with a professional certification is first considered before a masters degree holder.
Correct... The error I made in my own pursuit. Also Masters take time and rigorous.

Do not enrol for that MSc program... I repeat, do not . The only reason you can enrol for that MSc is solely if you desire to become an Academic and follow that career path. So you either secure a job in any of our research institute or as a lecturer in a university...but aside from this, Do not.
You are partially correct.
FG parastatals such as NNPC, DPR now prefer candidates with M. SC. They may not state this as compulsory requirements but in the end, most candidates who would be employed on merit must have M. SC.
Secondly, M. SC is compulsory in some multinationals e. g Nigerian Breweries and Ecobank. Other organizations may follow the trend.
In teaching, especially reputable secondary school an M. Ed. is preferable.
Also important, if you score 75% in a job aptitude test and another candidate with M. SC scores 75%, he will be picked ahead of you. The reason is that, many young graduates leave for more degrees after they have made some money. Employers feel cheated because they spent so much on training you, only for you to resign when they need you most thereby making them to start recruiting and training another candidate to replace you. Therefore, candidates with M. SC will most likely stay longer in the job. This will save them the cost of recruitment.

With a master's degree one should be able to analyze research data for undergrads, at least as a side huslte, even if one is not gainfully employed......But since most of the so called master's degrees in Naija are just glorified certificates, their holders don't know their left from their right... just get admision, cram some notes and pass your exams (coursework) then pay someone to "manufacture" a "thesis" and boom you have a master's......Ask the holder his/her research topic, what informed his/her decision to go into that research area, what was the methodology and why etc.? He/she will be staring at you like you're speaking a foreign language.
Very Apt. This is the problem ... if you actually passed through the rigorosity of M.sc , You can never remain the same ....

I went back in as a Dunce Head but 3 months after I knew they have strucked something in me ... a resources I knew where there but don't even know how to find my way around it.

Every course outline per course was a term paper or empirical paper , you present it individually 15pages maximum .... we were just 11 in d class.

Imagine, That presentations alone has eliminated crowd phobia from my life as you would present your dissertation too facing Professors, PhDs and ITK fellow students grin ... Throwing Questions at you all angles ... You and your supervisor in hot seat pitying each other cheesy

I cursed my B.sc Supervisor for awarding me C grade but after my M.sc , I revisited my B.sc Project... I awarded myself E grade infact ... I was suppose to rewrite that nonsense because it was grade less.... No head no tail ... I just wrote newspapers.... I remember all the effort I put into my B.sc Project ... we were not properly guided.

Same school, Same Lecturers changed it for us during M.sc .... Probitas Doctrina cheesy

You are welcome dear
In my very eyes I lost a lecturing position in a Federal monotechnic because I didn't have an M. SC.
I had to buy the form and start immediately. Fortunately, M. SC is compulsory for the job I have now and it is not a lecturing job neither is it a Research position but a Management position in a multinational.
I wouldn't have forgiven myself if I didn't go for my Masters because this job is my dream job.

M.sc is more rigorous, time demanding and even more expensive ....

M.sc will build on your B.sc and prepares you for your PhD ....

M.sc will give you a breaking root in your academic endeavour and prepares your for a life as a research analyst; Problem identifier and a solution provider ....

You will be able to identify all the parameters in your field , identify problems in those parameters empircially or conceptually then provide solution to the problem identified ...

The solution you provided is your own contribution to Knowledge in that endeavour in your field ....
PhD is where you specialize in an endeavour in your field.

ICAN is a professional qualification, it equipped you with everything you need as an accountant in practice or in business/Government organisation....

I'm reading ICAN on my own but MSC equipped me with the maturity to read OMO .... I think I made a mistake of undergoing MSC before ICAN ... I would have preferred to be chartered first before M.sc ..... ICAN would have made my M.sc more easier and my Dissertation more easier.

Thanks !!
