I do not believe it is as clear cut as you make it out to be. Many of these women are blind -- they cannot see what they do. Why? Because they themselves where raised in a culture and society that endorses male superiority. And so with this already built into their identity, they are essentially lost as far as even recognizing the problem that you point out there.

Imagine the case of a woman who already has 5 daughters, but still believes that she has to have a male child in order to properly validate her place as wife of her husband. This Nigerian woman has lived in the U.S for over 12 years. So, this cultural cancer runs deep for some of them.

I see your point and angle of argument. you are on track.
it's good you now understand my post.

buh another thing is drawing from your comment, if the said Woman finally gives birth to a male child, she will bring him up pampering him wrongly even his 5 sisters who wants boyfriends/husbands that won't confine them alone to house chores will pamper and spoil him for another girl. you are not doing anything to bring up ur brother(s) responsibly but expect to marry a responsible man who respects women.

that's why in my third point, I said sons/brothers that is I'm referring to female generally.

leaving mothers out of this.
many of the young generation that want these respectful attitude from men are slaves to their brothers at home. that's why I also used the lock down to site example. your brothers only enters the kitchen to fetch food after which he drops his plate on d sink for you/mum to wash. and many others and you expect that kinda child to respect women
THAT'S THE SELFISHNESS I'M TALKING ABOUT

my post is JUST CLEAR
DO UNTO OTHERS WHAT YOU WANT DONE UNTO YOU.

bring ur brothers up well for his future girlfriend/wife to enjoy then expect same from boyfriend/wife

The problem with many nigerian ladies is that when they see thread like this they don't want to find sense in anything you typed. all they want to do is Show their quarrelling talent of insults.

if they had taken their time to read, they would have noticed that the post is WOMEN intolerant behavior to WOMEN.
it's just sad they bring their frustration to US

read my second point. an average Even above average Nigerian lady expects a man to be a GENTLEMAN when there's an argument between them and a guy.

but if it's done to their husbands or boyfriends or brothers they expect the same guy to man up and not take Nonsense

They are so selfish and mean which is why GENDER equality is almost impossible and FEMINISM is causing more harm than good in this part of the world.

An average Nigerian mother enjoys it if her husband do house CHORES but if they see their son doing same for his wife, they get pissed.

They hit a guy(not their husband, brother or even a boyfriend) first like we see viral videos online in banks, clubs e.t.c they expect the guy to be a gentleman and not retaliate but if a random girl do same to their husband or brother or boyfriend they call the guy a weakling if he doesn't retaliate.

Them and their daughter(s) all want to marry a husband that will do house CHORES. Even during this Lockdown, all their brothers and sons do is sleep, eat, play game, watch movies and sleep again but they EXPECT another family to teach their male children/brothers how to do House chores for them to marry.

I can go on and on and on. let me draw the cotton here.

Op it's "Curtain", ...not "Cotton" grin

These nagging boys or men are the broke and jobless ones.

Stop showing your frustration on Nairaland.

Materialistic creatures think everything boils down to money please grow up. We're all selfish in nature but women are worse.

A typical woman will want her rich brother to put their family first over his own matrimonial home or support them at all times but she'll stop her own husband from doing the same to his own family.

Women wants their husbands to be loyal to them when they were young, at old Age they switch positions after having a male child the same women who converted someone's son to hers can't stand losing her son to another woman that's when she'll fight her daughter in law that she's taking control of her son forgetting she did same at a tender Age. Women always want to eat thier cake and have it. The list is endless.

I understand how you feel about them, and I get it. However, I still say that when it comes to the issue of gender equality, these things should be of no issue as far as decisions are concerned, because many of these women are too blind(some of them cannot think for their own selves even) to see the connection between what they do and the consequences that stems from such acts. These women were themselves raised to believe in rigid gender roles and stereotypes, with an understanding that men control and define them as humans. So I think rather than see them as selfish people, you should probably pity them, cause one could even say"... they know not what they do"

Gender Equality will likely not benefit these women, or even this generation. What it will do however is provide others, yet growing up in the same Nigeria, an alternative to the general gender narrative that is still Nigeria. It will open a door for those who are willing to set a path different from the status quo, giving them the tools to blossom right there in the same country Nigeria.

gender equality is already in practice in Nigeria. only thing is it haven't been officially signed into law.

the MENTALITY is what you need to change. you mentioned women being raised to believe in rigid gender role. u and I know it's no longer true in the present generation. what we have now is wanting more and not read to give any let alone more.
women's voice have actually gained every necessary attention it need in Nigeria. all you gats do is take the responsibility of sinking sense into your male children/siblings.
imagine a son of a woman who is a woman/girl child right activist not knowing how to do any house chores because his mumband sisters are his slaves

a girlfriend complaining about his boyfriend but in her house her brothers both elder n younger are worse. she knows it's right for her bf to change but doesn't know she've got to work on hers.

These small boys only write these insultive topics to get females to react and give them the female attention they desperately lack in real life. I wish all female nairalanders would realise this and learn to ignore topics and posters like the ones in this thread.

Many boys on romance section cannot even talk to girls in real life, nairaland is the only place they can talk to females.

The bill would not need to be signed into law if Gender Equality was already a culture in Nigeria. You just discussed at length of how women are selfish because they themselves raise one gender over the other, and the same you now suggest that gender equality is already the norm in the same Nigeria? Come on dude!! Even you know that cannot both be true.

It is still the present generation. This present generation where raised by Fathers and mothers who were themselves raised to believe that men were superior to women. Up till this day, the very laws of the land Nigeria have the woman as a subhuman living at the mercy of the males in their lives. A Woman's right to own property is still subject to her subhuman status in the same country.
Violence against women is still excused in that same country. Rape victims still made to carry the blame for their rape. Women in marriages, still relegated to second-class status.... And you want us to believe Gender equality is already in place in your Nigeria

That more and more women are more vocal about the abuse and violence that is perpetrated against them DOES NOT then mean the problem has been resolved. The cultures and rules that relegate them to subhuman status still exist and until those are rectified, nothing has changed.

Honestly, maybe educating the Nigerian men, one mind at a time, is something we ought all to start trying. That women are still subhumans in the most populous African nation in the year 2020 is a thing of shame. We need to tackle this issue of slavery once and for all.

Right to own properties; let us agree that they don't own. That's the reason u should teach your brothers/sons that women owning properties isn't an abomination.

Rape Rape Rape I knew you guys will always come up with this. Women do it too they also abuse young boys no matter how infinitesimal. Due to your selfishness, nobody even talk about the RIGHT OF A CHILD ANYMORE. Because the RIGHT OF THE GIRL CHILD IS ALL YOU KNOW
Anyways this topic is not about Rape.

You want men to value you equally, but after coming here to form ACTIVIST, you still confine your self and your daughters to all the house CHORES while your brothers/sons eat, sleep, press phone and play games. U go to your boyfriend/husband's house to form right in your house ur brother is WORSE and when u give birth Your sons only manages to clean the car(s) while you who knows good from bad confine your daughters to the Kitchen and other house CHORES.
TEACH YOUR SONS/BROTHERS TO RESPECT WOMEN(WE ARE ALL HUMANS) AND WATCH HOW THINGS CHANGES.
