Nigeria clearly don't have what it takes to lockdown 200m human beings like the way other civilized nations have done successfully. Another total lockdown especially in a heavily populated state like Lagos may result in a revolt by the people. How can you order poor people to remain indoors for weeks and later be giving them 2 cups of rice and beans that is if u are even lucky? In many states govt officials that are responsible for distributing the food items will make sure that only indigens of the states are the ones who are getting the govt palliatives so how can the lockdown be effective?

I would have ordinarily support lockdown but with our testing capacity of just 29, 408 which means if our population of 200M is taking into consideration 1 out of every 6,800 is being tested. Which is very bad.
The essence of lockdown is for you to buy time and stay ahead of the virus and why doing this your people will not take the whole brunt of the hardship as you are expected to make provision for them why testing rapidly.
We might have no choice but to live with the virus for now as we are not known to get anything right. This is a choice between economy and health..which is a bigger risk to take?

Abeg who voting epp?

This is indeed turning to a game.. so if majority say, 80% voted against lockdown then, would they have followed and allowed the mass to roam aimlessly even while face mask and social is not efficient?... how clueless!

Whether it's lockdown or not economy will still be wrecked... it's the level of severity that differs.

Now for a government who is really ready for development, the lockdown will have to be established with adequate provisions and palliatives for the innocent citizens.. while the WAY OUT is tirelessly being worked upon through all possible means.... as fast as possible !

Definitely Lagosians will vote in their favour....Had it been that a country like Nigeria acted the way Canadian government did to her citizens,by giving them $2000,then you will see that half of the population of Lagos will vote for the lock down to continue till eternity.
Hope u know they will pay back the 2000 dollars with interest.

You are damn funny, Did you just say use facemasks? Don't you go out on the streets to see how non compliant Lagosians are? A lot of people do not value their lives thereby putting the lives of those who value their lives at risk!

The only language Nigerians understand is "Force" we gotta learn the hard way , we have sworn to be defiant and non compliant then we have to be locked up once again so as to protect those who are vulnerable from getting infected !

You also talk about the economy! Awww what a kind way to show how much you love the economy, ECONOMY MY FOOT! T
The economy u love so much is being manhandled by the ruling elits who plunder and loot from the proceeds of the economy, while the poor man on the street is left to die!

My parting words to you seun DO NOT WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT THE ECONOMY BECAUSE WHEN THE ECONOMY GOES DOWN , GOVERNMENT KNOWS HOW TO REVIVE THE ECONOMY, WORRY ABOUT YOUR LIFE AND THE LIVES OF THOSE YOU LOVE BECAUSE WHEN THEY ARE LOST, GOVERNMENT HAS GOT NO CLUE ON HOW TO REVIVE THEM.

A HEALTHY LIFE IS A HEALTHY ECONOMY!
So you would rather destroy the economy of the country just because people aren't listening? What kind of shallow thinking is this for God's sake, cutting the nose just to spite the face? Is that even a strategy?

Ask any of the people that have ever caught it, someone from kano or someone who might have lost a soul to this scourge if a full lock down should be reinstated, they have had first hand experience of what we are dealing with. We need to wait this out else, when those with full lockdowns start to recovery, we would be back to square one. Only the living worry about the economy

Salary earners who have not lost their jobs yet, single people who work online, essential workers, etc, will vote yes. Most others would vote no.

A lockdown is the most brainless way to fight the Coronavirus. Our leaders need to use their wits and imagination to figure out better, smarter ways.

We cannot afford to wreck the economy by locking it down. If we wreck the economy then where will we get the money needed to fight the virus?

Yet, we cannot afford to allow lots of people to get sick and be killed by the virus. The fear of being infected is enough to wreck the economy.

The only way forward is to use face-masks and enforce science-based infection minimization rules to protect lives and also protect the economy.

It is crucial to understand that, as a poor country with a large population, we don’t have the luxury of choosing between saving lives and saving the economy. If we lose one, we will surely lose the other.

Just last week I went out for only 3 hours and I saw.

- People crowding a car boot to receive whatever was inside
- people pulling down facemasks and fighting
- crowded streets and markets.
-some were not even wearing any face mask.
- people continuing to touch their faces

Anyone who says that we will follow any science based rules is deceiving themselves. Some don't even think this is real and see no need to protect themselves. In the rush to save the economy we might end up making it worse by killing a lot of people and keeping Nigeria locked down while other countries open up.

Can you imagine the madness. Conducting vote on twitter? Twitter that is full of crazy reprobate children that don't have 10kobo sense other than to be fooling around and wasting their lives on vain frivolities, and telling stories of how they do abortion with boiling ring. Those are the kind of fools this hopeless government wants to decide how 30 million plus Lagosians live their lives. Is like this government has run totally mad

What has poverty got to do with whats on ground. Maybe u need a remainder. Lagos is conducting an online vote for either lockdown ease to remain or otherwise. Note: both the poor and the rich, strong and the weak and the literate and illiterate are all suffering from this pandemic.

This is Nigeria where motorists, people, market places, etc have thrown caution to the wind. Are you not in Lagos to see how people disregard simple instruction to wear nose mask and observe social distancing?

I don't like the lockdown idea but if it is to correct the stubbornness of people, Lagos should enforce it with immediate effect.

Lockdown is like taking injections, it’s painful but saves life.
Unfortunately no one likes pain, although it’s necessary.
People would always go for the less painful choices and as such, the result from this online vote might not be the best course of action to take.

Which lockdown? Pray which country has solved this corona issue with lockdown? Lockdown is not the solution if it is people would have stopped dying in the USA, during the last lockdown wasnt the rate of infection and death increasing? After the ease of lockdown hasnt the rate of death decreased, please think outside the box, lockdown is not a panacea, if you destroy the economy you will realize that your fear of death is only because you are comfortable, in the face of total chaos, you will look for death! STOP PLAYING WITH THE ECONOMY THINK VENEZUELA! THINK ZIMBABWE!!

If those salary earners still with jobs vote for a lockdown then they are the most brainless idiots in the country.

Coronavirus is not a killer virus and even the discharge rate from Lagos has proved it ... let the people eat right and return to economic activities
