You are damn funny, Did you just say use facemasks? Don't you go out on the streets to see how non compliant Lagosians are? A lot of people do not value their lives thereby putting the lives of those who value their lives at risk!

The only language Nigerians understand is "Force" we gotta learn the hard way , we have sworn to be defiant and non compliant then we have to be locked up once again so as to protect those who are vulnerable from getting infected !

You also talk about the economy! Awww what a kind way to show how much you love the economy, ECONOMY MY FOOT! T
The economy u love so much is being manhandled by the ruling elits who plunder and loot from the proceeds of the economy, while the poor man on the street is left to die!

My parting words to you seun DO NOT WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT THE ECONOMY BECAUSE WHEN THE ECONOMY GOES DOWN , GOVERNMENT KNOWS HOW TO REVIVE THE ECONOMY, WORRY ABOUT YOUR LIFE AND THE LIVES OF THOSE YOU LOVE BECAUSE WHEN THEY ARE LOST, GOVERNMENT HAS GOT NO CLUE ON HOW TO REVIVE THEM.

A HEALTHY LIFE IS A HEALTHY ECONOMY!
A big clap for this. Seun was very wrong putting those of salaries earner on the list, I was expecting him to deviate from any blame. This are the reasons some companies are sacking and others refused to pay.!

Countries that have managed to control the spread with people who are actually following the guidelines. Even at that only very few business are allowed to open. Are you comparing a well organised society to Lagos where anything goes?

My work requires me to be in contact with possibly infected people throughout the day, so please could you not be an ass and try to actually understand the situation. Save your remarks for people on the streets flouting the rules, it's not me that's going to restart the lockdown but them.
Shut up and speak for yourself, if you have a business you wont clamour for lockdown...am sure you dont stay in Lagos.

It's obvious this shit will be around for a while. Therefore, lockdown as a control measure has its expiry date; it cannot work beyond a specific limit, not even with the most advanced countries.

Adjusting our social conducts appear to be the only rational approach and the earlier we start adjusting the better. Even if the virus eventually disappeared, our adjusted way of life may help heal our agelong waywardness a little.

Salary earners who have not lost their jobs yet, single people who work online, essential workers, etc, will vote yes. Most others would vote no.

A lockdown is the most brainless way to fight the Coronavirus. Our leaders need to use their wits and imagination to figure out better, smarter ways.

We cannot afford to wreck the economy by locking it down. If we wreck the economy then where will we get the money needed to fight the virus?

Yet, we cannot afford to allow lots of people to get sick and be killed by the virus. The fear of being infected is enough to wreck the economy.

The only way forward is to use face-masks and enforce science-based infection minimization rules to protect lives and also protect the economy.

It is crucial to understand that, as a poor country with a large population, we don’t have the luxury of choosing between saving lives and saving the economy. We must get people back to work, and we must keep them safe.
That's great. We are in a dilemma. A cross-road. 50/50 chances

What government knows how to revive the economy? 60 years is more than enough to prove that your government knows jack about economy.

Lockdown or not to lockdown is irrelevant.

The real question is what is the real cost of each decision and how realistic are they given the economic situation of majority of its citizens?

Lockdown:

1. More jobs lost.
2. No revenue for government starving it of much needed funds.
3. Daily earners, their families and dependents will go severely hungry. Do you personally have plan to feed these people cuz your government does not. Can you predictably say for sure how these people will react to hunger? Low immune systems, cholera and malnutrition related illnesses will be on the rise.
4. Other economies are open meaning that they will be far gone on production and innovation, leaving us poaching matchup or not whenever we reopen.
5. Internal economy grounding to a halt will have a negative impact for oil marketers. They might not be viable financially to continue their services after a lockdown due to loan e.t.c of which there are no moratorium.
6. Businesses whose loans will need servicing within this period based on projected cashflow will be hit. Suffice to say more people out of jobs.
7. Without equipping our healthcare centres and opening up much more capable of handling covid treatments and testing what is the lockdown supposed to achieve.
8. Social distancing as a concept will only work for corporate types and those that own cars. In case you do not know, you guys are in the very minority. Your markets was not planned for social distancing. Your transportation system was not built for social distancing, churches e.t.c. Trying to undo the rots of 60 years just by fiat and chest beating is just yarns. Present, future and past impossible tense.

9. People need to be able to afford disposable masks. Is the government willing to provide it for free for those sho cannot afford it?

10. Face masks increase the risk of CO2 poisoning and not meant to be worn for long periods of time at a stretch. I wonder how that works out.

When the government is ready to lockdown, they should do the needful. However note that there are a large group of people whose problem is what to eat this night than covid. They value hunger more than covid. Except you round them up and exterminate them. That is the only way to solve this problem.

No lockdown:

1.Economy is productive and has a higher chance of surviving.

2. Some people with very low immune system will catch the covid and die. Still will be less of our national death rate. The strongest will survive. These are the people you actually need to improve the economy

3. People decide for themselves what is more important: food or fear of covid. Those who fear covid can choose to lockdown personally. Those who dont should be allowed to live their lives.

4. Force can go both ways. Only when reason is thrown away b4 arriving at a decision will you need force to implement it. In fact if a decision is going to negatively impact a lot of people, then it's the wrong decision.

Its a fact that some people are immune to the virus. The virus mainly kills people with underlying conditions and old people. These are the people the focus should be on. Most healthy people get well. Sweden did not lock down and the morality rate is no different than their neighbors. Most of the deaths in Sweden are from old peoples' homes.
Nigeria shld stop copying other countries and choose the solution that works best for her. Lock down is not a solution. Its just a way of postponing the inevitable. Learn to live with the virus and keep the healthy ones working while you focus on the old and vulnerable.

Nigeria is not Sweden, we don't have their infrastructure, organisation or innate aversion to personal contact.

Nigeria can open up completely we should just get prepared for the consequences when it is over.

I disagree with you on this Seun. It was so premature in the first place to ease the lockdown when we did considering these three important factors;
1. We were so far behind in the area of testing so much so that community transmission broke forth before we could manage the foriengn import cases....uptill now, we are still lagging before compared to where we should be by now. Just imagine how many covid 19 virus carriers are walking in the streets of Lagos and sharing it since last week Monday!

2. Due to our failure above, the number of cases will keep increasing for now; we're still far from reaching the "peak" and the only logical option for now is a total lockdown while the govt must as a matter of urgency work on testing rates, isolation and management of Victims; this isn't about just Lagos state but the whole country.

3. Locking down FCT, Lagos and Ogun state only is a disaster in it's own from the start.....even if we succeed in these three places after an effective lockdown, people will carry the virus back to Lagos and Abuja thereafter. BTW, the borders are as porus as ever even during lock down.....yes I know someone will remind me of Kogi and cross-river state but it's only a typical Ostrich story who dip her head inside the ground claiming she's fine so far she's unaware of what's going on around her...It is better we face the reality now or we all face the consequences later; the choice is ours.

Been singing the hymn since January. And as predicted the lockdown was lifted nothing was gained. Figures still rising, economy damaged. No gain left, no gain right. This is the result of incompetent leadership everywhere you look.

I come to this forum everyday shouti g for a goverment strategy to capture Covid in Nigeria. They say I talk too much. That lockdown is the strategy. I tell them, lockdown is like anaethesia. It creates opportunity to operate. But if the surgeon is busy drinking at the pub what is the point. The patient will not be cured.

The goverment has squandered 2 months, billions of naira in GDP and sent millions into the unemployment market and into abject poverty over a paltry 30,000 tests. What a waste.

You would be surprised that my work is to deal with malnourished children, but we have to put things into perspective here. If someone has diabetes it can be managed, they can't spread it to others and it takes a long time to die from it without management.

With Covid-19 you have about a month or so to live or die if it gets bad, even with the best hospitals the chances of survival after requiring ventilation is 50/50.

If it was Boko Haram killing people on the streets no one would dare to step outside, yet because the killer can't be seen it is not given the appropriate respect.

I just hope the cure/vaccine comes out soon because I never trust people to listen to directives.
