Private school will pay you during lockdown?

Almost impossible, maybe those big schools though.

They are not making money, so they can't pay... This moment must be really hard in private teachers.

Those creative can do private tutoring though and make extra cash instead of staying idle
not every teacher can tutor...
maths English chemistry physics nd a few others
can u collect biology teacher fr ur child?
it's a waste of money as he can read it on his own

I have even forgotten about getting money from someone talk more of salary!

U regret handling chalk in the first place! Our proprietor paid last in February, and that was even half salary. From March till date, we are on our own. We have all our hopes in God for feeding.

The funniest part of it was that my landlord came last week to ask of rent as if he is from another planet

1 Private lessons ( I teach all science subjects Physics,Chm,Bio and Maths).I do this 6 times a week. I currently handle 5 students though different sections. O boy it has been very hectic but wetin man go do.
2 Training in digital marketing
3 Photography
My advice yo fellow private school teachers is that try and organise lessons for students especially incoming Ss3 students immediately after 3rd term. Because most parents may not be able o pay their school fees again. Be creative and ask God for directions.

It has not been easy, I was paid last in February. I do private lessons at least. Not that the parents pay as much considering everyone is in this pandemic together. I still don't mind any other side hustle or better job. 08037568384.

The reason you're saying this is because the Nigerian government is yet to shut down most of these schools. There are employment laws guiding every sector of the economy. How many of these schools enrol their staff on pension scheme? medical insurance? staff training? leave bonus? How many even comply with the minimum wage? Education is not an informal sector and you just can't run it like a mechanic shop.

The kind of behaviour you're promoting among employers in the private sector is why many employees independent teachers will ALWAYS leave to public schools at the slightest opportunity.

You expect a school in Bariga to charge the same school fees as a school in Lekki or VI, which commensurate to teachers salary??

This is indeed a tough time for private school teachers. Even the proprietors do not like this circumstance.

But, it's been said that tough times bring out the best in people, the same way gold get refined/beautiful through fire.

Just identify what you are fitted to engage in. There is something out there now which if you can switch into it as your occupation; you will soon be telling people that you actually wasted previous times all this while in private school teaching.

You will be proud of yourself if you do this. It's out there for you to discover it. You can request for help, if you need some.

At the end, the covid-19 and it's resultant lockdown will become a blessing.

That is Nigerian for you. The school owner is running up and down paying both bank and investors loans. However, Nigerians will keep blaming them. The most hardest thing in life is employing a Nigerian. They hardly think. Theirs is just to get money in respective of the employer making profit or not.

Lol... Employees can make employers hard hearted

The average fees of a pupils in Bariga is 15k, lekki schools average is 100k. How do you then expect the Bariga school to pay higher salaries like their lekki counterparts??

Am a school owner n I paid my staff half salary from my own salary. Though is a small school with 10 staff including the head teacher. Don't blame some school owner who could nt pay cos if d school is their only source of income there is nothing they can do.

I'm not saying they should pay like their Lekki counterparts but a decent pay that is comparable to what other graduates earn should be demanded.

If your organization badly needs graduates, then better be ready to give what graduates want. It's not a must to own a school, remember? You could own other businesses that require no certification or skill. In such businesses, peanuts are justifiable.

Shey all the money una gain from exploiting parents and your own teachers no reach to give small palliatives to your staff ni? Please let's call a spade what it is ; if, as a school owner, you cannot help your workers at this time with a little support, then you don't deserve them. You're nothing but just another slave driver and nothing more. Nigerian teachers have to liberate themselves from these shackles. Thanks to Coronavirus, now they know there's only a minute difference between themselves and that jobless guy or girl next door. A most unfortunate job[/s]
very stupid comment obviously .Did u let your anus do the talking? angry
Its better you shut up at times than disgrace yourself when its obvious you're f***ing ignorant angry
You don't know d1ck about running a private sch you think it's easy being a private sch owner?? Some Private sch owners barely have enough returns after paying salaries, doing maintenance and stuffs. Its obvious your parents were scammed or exploited cuz your education seems like a waste.
Parents pay fees once in about 3 months and you have to pay the teachers for those 3months maybe another....you have to pay teachers a month salary for spending a week in that month, you have to answer to ministry of education,if you're on rent, you have to attend to that, you carry out maintenance from time to time,
Don't get me started on a lot of tins

I'm not talking about the big cuties!!!! Rubbish

Nonsense and ignorance angry

It's been seriously hard.

No palliative and you can't even go out for home lesson.
The parents have stopped me from coming because they are scared I enter public transport.

Nobody is even considering us. They just forget about private teachers. After deducting tax from our salary every month.

I really need to leave this country. Teachers in some country don't pay tax and their health insurance is also covered.

Government, TRCN and The Educational bodies have failed us.

We don't exist to them.

Pay wat, where will they see the money?
Even some of those that have the capability to pay won't pay because they will be like teachers don't work for it.
One of the lesson this covid has taught us especially private school teachers is that we need to get another source of income aside where we work.

Nothing stops school owners from innovating. A school owner can own printing press (for textbooks, note books, sport wear, etc). Engage your teachers and motivate them to write textbooks, that way, you're able to internalise your operations, and be more productive. A school owner can even own a business centre, a garment factory for the production of wears to pupils in smaller schools. There are lot more a school can do to stay competitive with other industries like the banking industry.

I'm aware of some measures. For example, some schools rent out their space for parties. However, more can be done.

Private Universities have adopted this model and it's working so well.

Easier said, can you just take the bull by the horn and establish a school

I will rather invest a start up capital of N20 millon in the stock market, rather than venturing into a capital intensive and labour intensive school business.

About 50% to 60% of the revenue goes into personnel expenses, if you are operating in a rented apartment up to 20% of the revenue goes into payment of rent and property maintenance, if you got a loan to build your property and buy school buses up to 30% goes into finance cost for the servicing of yours loans, about 10% goes to the state government, local government, government agencies as taxes, levies, dues etc.

No be moin moin to do business in Nigeria at all

Virtually, many private schools proprietor/proprietress are naturally wicked. They are exploiters.
They don't care about the well being of their teachers.
They pretend to be men and women of God but they are devil's incarnate.
It's a crime to be a private school teacher.
