Good day everyone, please if a student is pregnant and gives birth in the UK, are there additional fees for antenatal and delivery? Or will the IHS fee suffice?

The IHS fee is sufficient to cover everything for student or dependents .............However if the student decided to add stuff like private room after delivery then that will be billed separately as it for everybody . And Yes the student should make sure she utilizes the NHS sufficiently to the max , afterall she has paid IHS fee cheesy

Goodafternoon to everyone. Please help me and settle this matter wink.

Is a student on tier 4 student visa eligible to pay income tax ? If such student is already paying National Insurance tax.
Thanks

You don't pay but if your employer takes it from your pay you will get it back at the end of financial year.

My first employer at the care home paid it for me but I didn't get it at the end of the financial year despite my tier 4 student visa. My current employer doesn't pay because of my student visa status when I started work with them and HMRC brought a letter for me that I am owning. I am just confused as I don't know the right approach to solve this. embarassed

Are you working more than 20hrs a week?

You need to ask your employer for tax exemption form to avoid getting deducted in the first place.

You can still get your tax from your previous employer, call the tax man and explain that, they will probably give you P45 form to complete or you do it online.

YES YEs and More Yes....................

It’s a common misconception that students don't have to pay income tax in the UK. They do – it's just that their total income usually doesn't take them over their personal allowance (the amount you can earn in a year without having to pay tax). Especially if the student sticks to the 20 hours per week . The 2020 - 21 Personal Allowance is £12,500 . Everybody is tax over the personal allowance

Foreign students working in the UK
Some double-taxation agreements mean you do not pay UK tax on your income if you work while you’re a student. If your country does not have an agreement like this, you have to pay tax in the same way as others who come to live in the UK.

Ok... thanks for the info . Students or you mean students from Nigeria or countries with double taxation treaty

Did you get your tax back because calculation turned out you were taxed over personal allowance or you got your tax back even on amount over the personal allowance

I am more confused with this. My tax code is 1250L, it was generated when I was working at carehome. But now earning more than that from my teaching job. But its 20 hours and I am on student visa from Nigeria. I checked and Nigeria is also on that list you sent here.

I dont know of life after covid...but life before, it was very easy as you just needed to dial HMRC and that will be the source of truth . ..... you might need to call them or maybe justwise or others can explain further how to go about getting your tax back or been exempt

1. I know nothing about the treaty but i got my money back a Nigerian student.

Both..for me to earn enough to pay my fees, rent, bills and feeding i must have earned above personal allowance.

Contact HM Revenue & Customs if the rule has changed they will tell you, i understand that as personal allowances goes up it comes with some hidden changes

There is a number in that letter they sent you, call it and discus with them, if truly that you need to pay back they will given you a friendly re-payment plan.

My understanding was that with a 1250L tax code, your tax-free amount is £12,500 per annum.

If you are taxed and at the end of March 31, your total earning is equal to, or less than £12,500 for that fiscal year, all the tax you have paid is refunded.

If however, you have earned above £12,500 that year, ANY earning above that is Taxed.

@ Justwise:
Are you saying that during your student time, you earned above the ‘tax-free’ amount (as per your tax code), and you got a refund?
I really really doubt. If you got any refund, it would be what was deducted prior to the ‘tax-free’ amount. But every single penny after that threshold is taxed. Student or not. That is my understanding, that is what I have been told. By the taxman.

In my case, I think it's kinda of progression. In my case I'm going for Biomedical Engineering, after which I'll proceed to Advanced Manufacturing. This is because I wanna to deal with manufacturing of medical equipment on a large scale
Re: Uk Student Visa/tier 4 Pbs - Your Questions Answered Part 4 by Skymoore1004: 10:16pm On May 31, 2020
Where’s the progression exactly?
Why go for Biomedical Engineering when you want to “deal with manufacturing of medical equipment”, when you can just study Advanced Manufacturing?

Sorry I’m just confused but maybe the university will understand better

This should not be your prayer or aspiration ........... why spend more money on another MSC. . Hopefully after Biomedical Engineering , doors should open for a job in your related field and then you grow from there

To prove progression - you need to show that the new degree is at a higher level than the previous ......... making MSC to MSC hard to convince that there is a progression
