I doubt if this is true, most of my friends in the University back then where medical students, so I don't think u can be asked to withdraw from medicine for failing just 1 biology course despite the good result you say u have.

Op, life is simple and hard at the same time. It just depends how we want to live in it. We determine who we are by what we do best. So if you have interest in another thing u love, just engage in it and stop bothering ur self abt life...
Calm down, take a deep breath and call ur dad or mom nd break the news to them.... remember, the race isn't done yet.

My candid advice for you is to find a way of disclosing your academic challenges to your parent. A dead body can't hide himself or herself from those that will burry him or her. They will get to know one day if you fail to tell them now.....

OP, I understand your pain's, but to be honest that is the way medical school is. In fact my experience in medical school in Bayero University is far worse than yours.
I had to took jamb twice from Nursing to MBBS, I was very good them.
I could vividly remembered that same year I was the highest in post utme at kano state university in department of biochemistry.
To let you know, there are so many things that are happening in medical school. Pls don't take another jamb just move on to 200level.
After finishing you can still come back for MBBS.
Make sure you inform your parents.

I did not inform my parents because I din not want to dishearten them.

The school resumed, so I went to my HOD and complained, she took me to the Exam office who searched thoroughly for my script and from what I saw it was obvious I failed, I scored 32% and was asked to change department, my HOD advised that I go to Biological Sciences, my eyes were filled with tears.

How do I tell my parents this, it only mean I have brought shame to them. I have remained in school since then crying from one angle to another I don't know whether to go home to my parents to inform them of the truth or keep telling them lies.

I need your sincere advice.

Is it that you are not wise or you want to fool people here ?


(1) Your GPA was 4.2 (i.e first semester)

(2) You made A's and B's in second semester except Biology with F.

(3) They advised you to switch to Biological science ...which u failed ?, Despite you claimed excellent results ?

(1) Either you are not telling us the truth(you failed all those u flames u have A's and B's), which if u did , people will still give you good advice(80% sure of this)....tell your parents , don't go stay with them again to avoid the shame , and find a place to stay while u write jamb again..I am sure here, u ONLY PASSED biology , reason for given u biological science

Pls keep attending school but take Jamb again.There was a story of a lady here I read about just last week who said she was expelled as a Pharmacy student at her 3rd year in UNN.She took Jamb again..went to UNIBEN and has recently graduated.There is no shame in starting all over again.

What u experienced is really painful. But I believe it is not too late. With other available results that proved ur worth u can still be reconsider for second chance. Try as much as u can to narrate the whole thing to ur HOD as u brought it to nairaland.
Lastly, this is a spiritual warfare u need to be very prayerful. I wouldn't know who and who ur mum told when u gained admission.May be that's where d attack is coming from.

Inform your parents on what is happening, they can’t beat or rebuke you

I was admitted to study pharmacy in 2006 at the great citadel, Obafemi Awolowo University. After my first session, I had 4 carryovers. Not as if I wasn’t serious or very dull, things just went in the way I didn’t understand.
I summoned courage and repeated the first year, taking only the 4 courses. I passed all and proceeded to 200level.
I repeated 200level and had to take all the courses again in my fourth year at the university. After the fourth year, I passed the courses though with resit in two courses. I promoted to 300level for the fifth year.
I repeated 300level and had to take all the courses in 300level in my 6th year at the university.

Finally, the worse came after my 6th year in OAU pharmacy school, it was a withdraw from the faculty of pharmacy to other faculty.
I wept and felt so bad as if that was the end of my life. Every thought in me had elements of suicide in it. But my parents were so aware, I called my mum who was at work immediately my course mate notified me of my fate. Dad had known earlier that day before me through one of our lecturers.

My parents stood by me and made sure I was happy and supported me financially, physically and spiritually until I was able to change my department to Geography in the faculty of Social Sciences.

I’m a Geography department graduate now and on a verge of being a registered Surveyor and I feel more happy and fulfilled than being a pharmacist

Being withdrawn from the medical school is not the end of life. There are billions of opportunities in other fields.

Please notify your parents now. They will know later, but they will feel more disappointed then than now.

If u no know book, there are departments u just can't survive in. All Ur parents money can't keep u there. After passing WAEC and JAMB thru special centre and all that, u think u can still come into some departments and continue that way....... E no go work.

One advise: spare no expense to educate Ur kids properly. Don't allow them to cut corners in their early education. When they get to university level, they would have been academically toughened to take the stress

1) tell them and Proceed to Microbiology and go there to daze.. make a 1st class, do msc and PHD..
2) tell them, re register jamb and re apply giving yourself a second chance.. you can do it!

My worry is that, "what could have made you score 32% when you said the course, Biology, was the simplest course in your exams"? And I truly believe that this course couldn't be a threat to you at that level. If you try challenging the marking now, that will pose another problem to you. God will make a way for you. Tell your parents and you will be relieved. They will show you the next action on whether to cross to another department or retake UME if you insist on becoming a medical practitioner. Best wishes.

Perhaps the story was made up to entertain. I am a doctor myself.
At the end of the 100 Level, courses used to be lined up into Biology, Physics and Chemistry. In this poster's case, there would be one Physics course in the first semester and two physics course in the second semester, plus a practical course in physics.

If his computed CGPA, by himself, was 4.2, minus the GSTs, then he should have passed the Physics component with at least a 'C'.

In my case in the medical school, they said I scored 33 in the second physics course of the second semester, they said I had made a mistake with the type on the question booklet. But since I made 'As' in other Physics courses, my result for the Physics aggregate was a 'C'. And I was able to continue with my studies. And I have got a feeling this poster attended my medical school.

If this poster had made a GP of 4.2 as he insinuated, he should have moved ahead in his studies. His pitfall: miscalculation b'cos no GP in medical schools. Second, he perhaps factored GSTs into his so-called CGPA.

Verdict: write the UME again, or go to the Caribbean, or Ukraine.

Criteria for promoting to the next level is not the same for all medical schools, especially 100 level. Most schools admit beyond their quota. Thus, they do funny things to reduce the number of students going to 200 level. I think unilag was sued few years ago because of that.

Bro, I've a similar story.
I was supposed to study medicine in uniben but I scored 218 in JAMB(2000) which wasn't up to the cut off mark. I was offered biochemistry which I accepted but halve way(200L) I wrote JAMB again where I was admitted into Zology them halve way into it again(200L) I get to realise that this isn't where I was supposed to be then I put in for Poly JAMB where I scored 218/300 and I was admitted into Electrical Electronic Engineering in Auchi Polytechnic.
Long story short, I mad upper credit them I got employed by am oil service company in PH I proceeded for my HND in Rivers State Polytechnic with an outstanding result. Now I am happy I never read medicine. I course mates that scare through medicine aren't happy with their career line today.
Friend I advice you tell your parents and rewrite JAMB and apply for en engineering course. You'll thank me later.

I was withdrawn from the University of Benin due to poor academic performance not because I was too dull but because I choosed to be lazy
I couldn't tell my parents but mum felt something was wrong and addressed me with love and beckoned on me to tell her the truth.
I finally told her the truth and immediately I saw pains in the eye of my mum. She cried like a baby and I was broken.
God made a way immediately and I had to write jamb the following year and right now am in my about getting to my finals with a cgpa of 4.0/5. Just tell them now before it's too late please.

Being some one who has had similar exoerience, i will ask you not to tell them.
If possible, get another jamb form, fill medicine if you are lucky, you may still read medicine without them knowing of the setbacks.
Some parents will be too devastated to hearvthe news at this time.
I hasd issues in med school in 400 level. Neva told anybody at home. Picked myself up and did the needful. Till my died died, he never knew of the setback. He would have been too devastated.
