In New York City of 20 odd million people?

In the West you can live in same building for 20 years without knowing each other. In big Western cities a neighbour one floor above you can die without you knowing. You think it is 9ja where people will come and be crying up and down?

Someone I know, a Healthcare staff, died and it took me weeks to know.

Other people I know spent weeks in ICU but recovered. I did not know until one was discharged and the other just days before being discharged.

The scenario out there is horrific.

If Nigeria was a country with visa free travel to UK, EU, USA, China and other places, it would have been far far worse.

Please take it from those at the frontline Sir,Corona virus does exist.The fact that you do not know anyone personally does not mean it is a propaganda.You yourself may have been a carrier at one point in time and may not have had any symptoms.There are people who will be without symptoms and those with either mild symptoms,moderate or severe symptoms.

I'm not upto something and do not work with NCDC. Infact I wanted doing consultancy work with them but couldn't get it. The friend that died was one time my oga about 9/10 years ago. It's still shocking to me cuz he often sent videos or messages of happenings around the globe to my WhatsApp. He worked with General Hospital, Zango Kataf for years before he was transferred to General Hospital, Gwantu in Kaduna State.

When malaria/typhoid reads 2+,what happens: blood presure/heart beat increases this lead to difficulty in breating,taste bud dies leading loss of taste and smell.Mosquitoe/malaria/typhoid fever kills more than hunger in Africa. Good day Nairalanders. Since March this year, Covid-19 has been the major issue in Nigeria as it led to the shutingdown of the economy.

Many people don't believe the existence. My dear people, I was having a double opinion about the existence too. For the first time, I'm beginning to believe the pandemic does exist. My friend who was a Medical Laboratory Scientist with Kaduna State Ministry of Health and the head of the laboratory unit, Gwantu General Hospital was down with malaria like symptoms and treated himself for several days with no improvement.

Though he was a high blood pressure patient. The fever increased and symptoms of Covid-19 started manifesting. He was taken to Kafanchan Gen Hospital but no Doctor agreed to come close to him when they saw his critical condition. He was advised to check into the isolation centre but when they got there, there was nothing on ground as everywhere was dirty with no facility. The family was advised to take him to Kaduna isolation centre but he gave up the ghost as he was under distress all these while.

His samples were taken and it came out positive for Covid-19. His corpse is deposited at Kafanchan Gen Hospital at the moment. The people that were running up and down to save his life were helpless as they watched him dying. Their samples had been collected yesterday, taken to Kaduna today and are awaiting the outcome of the results.

The question they are asking is: why is government saying they have spent huge sum of money with nothing to show for it especially in other parts of the state/country? Should preparation for Covid-19 management be made only in the state capitals? What about towns that are very far from the isolation centres in the state capitals? Government should do something to accommodate the people by creating and equipping more centres in the hinter lands.

Nigeria is a poor country.

Our health budget for this year is less than $3 billion dollars. By comparison, South Africa spent $23 billion on health this year, and developed countries spend $100 billion and more.

That's why our health care response is a joke. We don;t have the money, and the looting and inefficency of the government makes matters worse.

Again, not to be harsh, and my sympathies with the loss of your friend, but even if they got him to a ventilator, it probably won;t have made a difference.

I'll never understand why some people still think the virus is not real. I understand if people are being sentimental about the numbers but saying it doesn't exist at all. Seriously? Also agreed that the Nig government isn't doing enough to equip and help the health system.

I know at least 8 to 9 people who have either lost someone or had someone who recovered from it.

Infact I know someone personally who has lost 3 people.
The way the virus ran through many care home is so disheartening. People lost their parents/grandparents to this virus.

Ignorance is what lead the world to where it currently is right now because lots of people/countries were disputing it until it hit their doorsteps.

Remember that these statistics/numbers are people's husband, wife, children, mother, father, sister, brother, friend etc.

I believe he died because of negligence and not necessarily COVID19..... Fever is part of Coronavirus symptoms truly, but fever has been killing people not today!

You also said Kaduna facility is dirty, does that means we are being fed lies in the media when they are showing us ultra modern facilities?

Truly there is COVID19 which kills, but fever kill more people than COVID..... Also, he probably died because he didn't get medical attention. That's my point!!!

At the bolded...if Nigerians had the disposable income to engage in international tourism like the average EU, UK, USA, even Chinese(millions of Chinese travel aborad for tourisim yearly)...it might have been worse.
