The Northern elite (political and traditional) are quite different from the Northern proletariat, also called the "masses".
The Northern elite are full protected from the Fulani terror bandits. They also want and would never give away power without a fight. Abacha, Babagida and the charade surrounding Ya ardua's death are clear examples.
