NSE is one hell of a paradox. You announce opening up the economy and ending interstate lockdown, market tanks further.

What does the market now respond to?

Do we trade news on NSE?

Fbnh moved up to 5.45.........lets see if it can sustain this upward momentum.....

Guinness at 14.50! shocked sad

Zenith doing strong head. Some people are waiting for it at sub-15. grin

Guess there's the need to keep eye on Mr. Market for reversal whenever the sideways trading as well as panic/dumping subsides......

3.6M+ traded so far......N10 as at now....
What could be the reason for this massive dumping?
Anyway, those inside the bus would do well to exercise patience and try to average down should they still have extra funds........my opinion.

Sir Onegentleguy pls help out here.
I don't know much about dangcem buyback.

.....but share buyback is beneficial once completed/concluded.
The share price will go up thereafter.....but will still fall before then, like dangcem is currently fallen cos the aim is to pick at lower price as possible on the floor.

I am keeping some cash hoping to buy stocks at the beginning of bull. I am thinking of picking gtb and access (i already bought zenith and uba at march low price) but the low price dangcem is attractive but need to understand what buyback means .

I will wait for honourable onegentleguy.

Yes. Wait for dangcem to fall. They will still crash the price to buy it back at lowest possible price. Then move the bus thereafter.
I don't think there's anything wrong with its fundamentals, Alhaji and his guys just needed to pick it at cheapest price on the floor ni.
The first year low was 116 around march.....let's see how they'll do it this time around. How low it will go.
I can see 115.20 on the table......think it will be good to start picking small small from the year low.......
This is just my opinion. smiley

Normally when a company buys back its shares

for example as dangote cement lets say the shares outstanding is 17,000 as at now
so as dangote agrees to buy back 10% of its shares
the shares outstanding is now 17,000*0.9 = 15,300

using previous profit as at last year of 200bn
eps last yr = 200bn /17000 = 11.76
market price at this date stood as 165
pe ratio = 165/11.76 = 14x

and if profit goes up by 5% as estimated from its q1 earnings
200bn *1.05 = 210bn
eps = 210bn/15,300 = 13.7

market price automatically goes up as former pe ratio * eps as 14 *13.7 = 191.8
and if profit still remains the same the eps goes high, same will market price

thats why i am so confused at the moment except its the dividend thats removed from its market price followed by the massive layoffs and bua cement tussle war or else i swear im confused as mad

If today is their last qualification date, though you'll still qualify but I'll advice you don't buy it again.
Wait for markdown, monitor the price movement then key into it at bottom for price appreciation.
That's my own.

my point is that why will two of the directors buy the shares at 138 and 139(1million each) totally 138 and 139 million if they know the shares will fall below 120, will anybody want to loose at least 18-19 million

Those big guys don't think or look like we think/look o.
They must have seen value beyond what we can see, then buy at premium price.
To those guys, time is on their side, they can wait it out for the price to appreciate and deliver more profits to them.
Also, with the recent rule that insiders must go thru NSE for their dealings, some of them just have to buy at their time and at prevailing prices.
See the case of UACN, some deep pockets bought at N10 or thereabout........maybe I'll try and get the right price and qty for you later.

What does the market now respond to?

There was a CBN report on sector performance in the month of June and projected performance to December. So I guess the sectors affected are responding negatively.

I think I already highlighted enough about DANGOTE CEMENT in one of my past article. ...with all due consideration to the duo of SHARE BUYBACK and SHARE CAPITAL CONSOLIDATION(also known as reverse stock split), including possible scenarios for discounting risk and seeking reward.

Taking risk which may go either way.

I know a sitting chairman (now former) of a top Nigerian bank that bought millions of the bank's shares at double digits price and was still holding them when the price tanked below N5. And no, the plan wasn't to increase stake.

This month, somebody bought 4 million shares of Nigerian Breweries at N42. A few days later, price touched N34.7. You would expect someone shelling out almost N200m at a go to have access to quality expert advice but then, market belongs to one and to everyone.

fidson(want to collect their dividend and run away because their interest payable on finance cost alongside its borrowings is too high and risky their gearing is not suitable for me to stay there long)

please feel free to correct me and add more information

Fidson just secured a 3 year tax holiday. So within these 3yrs, their finance cost and interest payable will drastically reduce.

Also they secured a contract with GSK from 2021 to produce some of their products at their new facility at Ota. So this will add to their bottom line in the long run.

Finally their partnership with O'Hara pharmaceutical will both broaden and increase their market share in the coming years.

I hope this helps

this just says it all i have thought and thought about this.
but on a share repurchase scheme from my experience in nyse, the demand for the company shares will shoot up as dangote has bought 10% of the shares which is cancelled so people will look for the shares which will also drive share price up because of the demand supply

however some folks say that share repurchase is bad, looking at dangcement, it has little or non current liabilities outstanding and their cash from operating services in their cash flow is positive with the cash held in hand is more than enough for the company to sustain this coro from q1 report. However considering other ratios such as quick acid, working capital and current ratio, i feel its the industry norm for them to have such, looking at bua and wapco, they are not currently liquid. Dangcem also issued out bonds to boost up liquidity due to the coro issues and dividend payout

i feel its four things
1. alhaji and his boys are playing funny with the market for DIL to buy the shares at the best prices again
2. bua cement issues(which is having effect on the share price at N-4)
3. massive layoff(investors feeling dangote is in cash crisis)
4.EPS - 11.76 Dividend - 16 (paying above their profit for one share by above 4.1), they might have sense fear and invested in the bond after taking dividend because of the uncertainties in the economy due to coro
5. the market is funny and most industries are on loosing streak

If the case is 1, 3, 4 AND 5 i believe it will rise because in the case of no 3, a company can fund it from its retained earnings, cash and they are non cash expenses such as depreciation, amortisation and provisions provided on its AFS which cuts down profit
but if its no 2, and if there is a court case, provisions may be made and it will cut q2 profit and share price will plummet more, i pray its not this or else anyone holding BUA CEMENT should get ready also

THIS HAS TAUGHT ME A BIG LESSON I WONT FORGET. EXPERIENCE IS KEY and run away from any company with pending or prospective court cases
