Hello Gurus in the house,
I have been following this thread silently.
I recently got the Redmi Note 8, I tried unlocking the bootloader but got the message "COULD'NT UNLOCK" with some Chinese inscriptions.
So i thought I will have to wait for 7 days before i could unlock, which i did.
I tried it again after 7 days and i got the same message and Chinese inscriptions. Since its not in English I dont know what it means.
I use my email to log into my account I registered with.
I have added the message i get and the Mi unlock version in the pictures below.

My purpose for wanting to root my phone is for Dolby atmos (my former Gionee phone beats this beast in terms of music output by a country mile, I cant do without good sound production which the RN8 lacks), and GCam.

Pls any assistance will be highly appreciated.

Have you done all the preliminaries that need to be done on the phone? Try another mi unlock version that operates in English language. If you get the message "Couldn't Unlock" and not "Try again after 168 hours" or something like that after stopping at 99%, then something is not right.

Apart from the Dolby Atmos, you no longer need to unlock bootloader to use Gcam by the way. If you included that remove it.

Installed the USB drivers on my PC
Enabled USB debugging on my phone in the developers option
added the account on my phone
Fastboot

I even used an older version of the Mi unlock tool (Version 1 or so), that did not work.

But am yet to use the current English version of the Mi unlock tool. could this be the issue?

Ok, Dolby Atmos is top priority for me, thats why I want to root the phone.

Thanks have gone through the bootloader unlock link, when I clicked on the UNLOCK link, I did not see any application form only the usual DOWNLOAD AND UNLOCK button, which I have already downloaded and tried.
I used the Mi unlock in the Zip file.

Could it be the waiting period for Redmi Note 8?

Did you enable OEM unlocking and Disable Windows Driver Signature on your PC?

I've gone through your profile and I observed that you love flashing ROMs. Welcome to the ROM flashing world. But as a note of warning, once you unlock that bootloader, never try to lock it back else you'll get system has been destroyed.

This mean that once you unlock the bootloader of any Xiaomi device, you can't lock it anymore.

Xiaomi policies of catching those that are voiding warranty.

Btw: are you still in Zaria?

I know rooting affects OTA, but unlocking boatloader doesn't, does it?

Yes I did all of that,
I have uploaded a screen shot of the unlock msg I got in my initial post.
The message was written in Chinese, I don't what means, but I tried unlocking 8 days ago.
I tried again today.

No message. I just tried after two weeks. Ve u backed up your important data/pictures/files?
Try another version of mi unlock tool. Probably you haven't waited for enough period. Did you do any update while waiting for the permission to unlock?


We have same version sha. Uninstall and reinstall d mi unlock tool or try the latest version below from Mi Globe website

It doesn't matter how long he waits if he doesn't get the message indicating the waiting period in the first place. Even if he waits for 1 month, it'll still be the same thing. I think he should try the whole process over again using a strategy version of mi unlock too, especially the English version

Yeah, unlocking bootloader doesn't. Rooting also doesn't if done well.
