whenever I see these handrails, I'm once again happy and convinced that even in the midst of plenty, there are still Nigerians who desire good works and are willing to pay for it. I know those didn't come cheap and to the welder that did the job,he did absolutely a good work

That welder, I have refused to refer him to anyone here despite the 4 friends that have chatted me to link them up with him. The guy really caused me too much stress on this job, delayed the job for over 7 months and still have some uncompleted portions like the wood overlay. I have been in his shop transporting myself to Onitsha to chase him around, reported him to his union and nearly called the police on him (we know how ineffective that one is in Nigeria) The things we see in this job my brother, it's not easy.

But I know you will be different, having stayed with all of us here you would have understood the need for professionalism. I will work with you soon. Thanks.

my oga,
i feel your pain.... building my last house i had same issue with the guy making all the windows...he told me all sorts of nonsense story so i paid this guy 100% of his money without a single window made ...this guy was highly recommended by everyone such a shame....in fact i had to pay someone else to make new windows....he is yet to balance me my money till today .i am far away i can only shout on the phone...people i sent cannot do much other than go there shout and disturb .locking him up was waste of time .

I still can't fathom why they still build bathroom like this in Nigeria. It will look gross on the WC in the long run especially with a massive home like this.I was expecting it to have like a stand-in shower with perhaps a glass compartment and the WC in another position thereby eliminating water from splashing on the WC. From the second attached pic, just imagine the long term effect the splashed water will have on the wood (cabinet) by its side.I have lodged in some nice hotels in Nigeria and the bathtub has no provision for shower curtain thereby giving room for splash everywhere. These bathroom designs look weird and awkward to me. Just an observation by a student in this course. Btw good job prof. @Spyder880.

****The 3rd attached pics gives a clearer explanation of what i am trying to describe.

I never liked the non-demarcated bathroom as in the second picture either. I will never build a bathroom as such. Thanks.

Thank you my friend, your observations are apt and I love the way you described everything in detail. It will really be an eyesore to have a bathroom where you will have water splashing all over the place, especially on wooden cabinets which is going to be in every bathroom.

However these pictures i show everytime are uncompleted positions of work as at the day i took the pictures and not necessarily the finish pictures, by that i mean that we are still working, and that the owners of this house paid me for glass compartments like the ones you showed in the last pictures but i couldn't fit it all the while because we had issues with completing the tiles. The tiles has now been completed this week.

I have some of my workers in Onitsha cutting the glass compartments yesterday, I spoke with them in the evening and they promised that both the glass compartments and the marble countertops for each wooden cabinets, plus the ones for the kitchen cabinets will arrive this site this weekend, or at worse by Monday next week.

Thanks for your observations but this is an uncompleted bathroom.

This is one of the last bathrooms we completed, and the glass compartment is shielding the section with wooden cabinets and wood framed mirror, the toilet seat on the other side not pictured was also shielded with a glass compartment.

Filling of this compound continues as we aim to slope this compound outwards against the national tilt of the land which was tilted towards the back of the building.

Sometime it actually depends on what the client want even if the builder suggest it,....I still wonder why tiles are wasted from up down in bathrooms, toilets and kitchens,....I have been in some splendid houses and 5 stars hotels around the world, half tiling and half wall has its unique beauty, tiling where water splashes are expected gives rooms for a broad decor.

In those places you mentioned, adequate maintainance update is done. Tiling to the ceiling gives you peace of mind from the moisture and maintenance is limited.
Naijas want low maintenance. Just my opinion sir.

Hajji,

Apart from periodic hygiene cleaning not much maintenance is needed for partly tiled bathroom and painting the wall with water, stain and moisture resistant satin/gloss paint, purposely made for kitchen, bathroom and toilet,......the difference in those part of the world is 99.99% of the paints meet the recommended qualities and are durable and the space is properly ventilated. You can always clean the paint anytime and it doesn't wear off. I have had mine all bathrooms and toilets for years.

Naija has problems with general hygiene for sure and always deem something is okay unless it's fully broken....toilet and bathroom of the best hotels in Nigeria were eye sore talkless of residential building, for real,.....tiles are to be cleaned periodically and silicone sealing are to be renewed at least every 3 years.

I agreed with you 1000%. We have maintenance problem in Nigeria. Look at those mansions, you can see how much they need to care for them right from outside to inside of the building.. we just dont care.
