Next stage should be an implementation and compliance process but I dont think Fed Govt need to go that far, the judgement is good enough. It is now up to leaders in Iboland to implement a conpliance for self-governing. The goal is to liberate women and daughters left behind by their bread winner. No need to rebel or feel hurt by the ruling. Ibo elders should step forward and do the right thing for their daughters. 3 Likes |

golddare: This is not true, if the first son performs the burial rites , then he can inherit hereditary titles and the house where the father lived and died. If the man has no sons, then the eldest daughter inherits the house but not the title. The title goes to the next of kin of the man. Any other property would be shared amongst the children both male and female. Any child born out of wedlock who is not known in the household i.e whose mother did not cook for the man in the house is disinherited, but if the son is brought into the house and the man affirms that he is his son, then he can get inheritance. You can also not disown a known son without performing some rites. 4 Likes |

When will Supreme court rule on the high bride price in Igbo land? Someone should sue the Ibo traditional leaders on this. 1 Like |

csamii:Your igbo elders are not the law or judges so whatever they say holds no water where the law holds sway so sit down listen and respect the supreme court not your elders who are under the law. There is nothing weak about women go into labour and open your mouth and still come and say women are weak after that since it is so easy to say yes we look so physically but that does not mean that we are weak. That talk is a old talk aimed at limiting women to the background it won't work anymore. You are not an advocate of anything you saying women are weak has shown that you are not does the supposed weakness stop them from inheriting properties?you are not an advocate you are just a chauvinistic sexist. 1 Like |

A culture/custom/tradition that denigrates the right of the people (females in this case), is that one not stupidity? Some traditions are no more than an echo over time of past silliness and bigotry. Man/woman must never exist for the sake of the past. |

The caption in dis thread is misleading, the only inheritance that women are not entitled to in igbo land is something owned in common by the community ( umunna) wic is passed from male generation to generation eg Land, the essence of legal will stipulates dat every children can partake in ur immediate fathers properties of whatsoever ~I arrest my case |

It's only a blind Igbo man will see this as good, this is another way to bring the Igbo nation to it knees. No any Igboist who dose not have rights to his family inheritance as long you didn't change your family name with other family. If i may ask can her family have rights in her husband inheritance |

csamii:Women should not be outside during Oro is a proactive step to shield women from a malevolent energy. It is out of concern to protect. It is not a prohibition at all. There have been women who out of curiosity violated the warning and they never regained themselves afterward. It is the same as instructing women not to handle certain chemical compounds because if inhaled or ingested could mess with their reproductive organs. It is not discriminatory but protective. Of course any woman can defy the warning, its her choice. So dont mix the respected freewill of women to make choice elsewhere with your draconian denial of choice and freewill to women in Iboland. |

ZZ22:Yes I am more educated and I am a high budget feminist That oldest organisation's influence around the world is dwindling already due to their refusal to accept changes no wonder Martin Luther led a protestant revolution against them and the likes of King henry the 8 of England broke away from them and founded the church of England. Even the male applicant in the seminary abroad are reducing hence why they wanted to make older married men priest but it failed. With time their influence will be reduced to nothing but zero it is the price they pay for choosing to remain backwards and not flow with the times.Feminist abroad have been countering it hence why some are leaving the church in droves and it is now filled with old people not young ones. Yes I will enjoy my feminism it is here to stay and with times things will get better for women. 3 Likes |

Yoruba will marry many women without making provision 4 their upkeep and warefare. they re never satisfied wit one woman and they can change their religion at any time. Igbo guys maintain and mk their family happy. wit or without inheritance we re happy and we strive 2 b independent. we work 2 mk our own money not 2 depend on inheritance. and no matter what d yorubas think or say, we will always b better and happier than them. 3 Likes |

This thread is so funny. I see all the tribalistic and igbo hating folks acting like they care more about igbo women’s affairs all of a sudden. You can’t wish igbos all manners of evil today then come tomorrow to pretend like you care more about igbo women affairs. The same igbos you threaten with genocide. 4 Likes |

Thastie: They are well respected but not valued enough to be sent to school. Academically mention one of your arewa women making waves and I would give you 10 igbo women for each. The arewa women are simply married off or bought at tender ages never given the chance to achieve their dream rather they are seen as za oda room tools. Truth hurts 5 Likes 1 Share |

Just imagine an 'Igwe' reasoning like this in the year 2020...and it points to one fact alone, that Igbo people are greedy by default This 'All or Nothing' mentality is the same reason why they're the kings of counterfeiting, and are always trying to shaft you whenever you do business with them. 1 Like |

ZZ22:Exactly, you spoke my mind,,this is how its done, atleast if the father is educated or reasonable. Share but give more attention to the men. If the woman don marry her loyalty is now at the mercy of the husband. Igbo's have reason of doing many things. 1 Like |
