It's only in Uniben they will tell you the number of potential first class students is too much, they need to trim down.
And they will trim them down.

Engineering students know what I am saying.

Uniben is very hectic
My 100lv I returned home very dark and scurvy but with okay grades and cgpa of 3.8.

In my 200lv I tried to balance my life but I got my first carry over in a course not because I failed but because the omr machine couldn't grade my answer sheet. I was so frustrated at second semester same 200lv I tried my best to cover up for my first semester results but it's only got worst my total cgpa in 200lv is 3.4 might be probably because of a position I held in my department and what annoyed me most was some of my friends who I teach and help in exam halls got a very good grade than me, I felt really down and got to understand it's not just by jacking and night class oh just know your way like most of my course mates do and your grades might be ok.

I just currently resumed 300lv with a strong reading spirit before this corona came and spoil everything now I'm at home and it seems have lost that sense of me being a bright student because it doesn't show in my result and I'm even scared I might not graduate with a 2.1 I'm studying statistics crushing the maths isn't easy.

So op I know exactly how you feel

Lemme talk to you
See I feel you bro
In my time, I held political position from 200l till I graduated. And I was always at the top in the political strata in my niche in Uniben.

Politics will affect your CGPA trust me. You can never balance the two. One will suffer for the other for a while. In my department, CGPA was calculated using this formula
40%----400l
30%%-----300l
20%------200l
10%------100l

So find out what % they use in your department. If you look at my department %, you can see that even if you are 2.2 in 200l, you can make first class from just your 300l and 400l result.

Find out what works best for you
You have to motivate yourself. I remember one time I was in my office and a senior colleague who had graduated came to school to see me. He told me, he said just try and get a 2.1. Life out there is crazy, but just get a 2.1

I had to up my game. I already had strings of carry over's to write. Be careful with some lecturers. They still fail people in Uniben for no reason. When I was in final year I was in 2.2

But I graduated with a 2.1
I never blocked any course in school
No spill over or extra year.

If I could do it bros
You can do it too....na only you fit motivate yourself

You would see a brilliant student hovering in 2-2

Solves everything solvable, teaches everybody after the lecturer has left the class, but somehow the proper grades he deserves are not showing on the glass board.

Only in Uniben.

It's the same thing everywhere in all public universities in Nigeria, i don't really know if it's the same in the private ones......first of all you have to do courses that are irrelevant to your course and then you'll have to face sadistic lecturers who will demoralise you at every given opportunity, then you'll have to go through all that physical, Emotional and Psychological Stress for 5-7 years (Because of ASSU), Believe me ,You'll have every reason to doubt your intelligence........i've heard of a Nigerian student who Graduated with a third class from UNN But when he went to the UK For his masters he came out with the best results in the school.

What is the difference between the lecturers in the UK and our own country, which makes our own lecturers sadistic?

How does a lecturer’s total package compare with an MP in the UK, and how is that gap here?
Can this be a pointer to the sadistic attitude?

Forget IQ.
Uniben does not respect your IQ. It takes luck and grace to excel there.
That is after you must have worked very hard.

Great uniben! I can't really relate.
But I know for certain, there are some departments that would make you feel that way, mainly because of the nature of the lecturers and teaching style.
For example Education is synonymous with missing scripts. How do you expect one not to get frustrated.
There are some lecturers that would want to deliberately fail students.
That's why I love Engineering. You get what you write.
I partied throughout university. Womanized and all, skipped a lot of classes, I still made a 4.48
In fact I would have made a first class, if I hadn't been more unserious during my final year, for which I regret.
Yes I did read, and was naturally an above average student.
Bottom line, put in your best, and hope for the best.
Also try understand what works, those that do better than you , try liasing with them to understand better how to get better grades.
In the end, as you might later realize, grades don't matter much depending on what you hope to pursue, but get the best grades you can as it could potentially open ways for you.
If you can make a first class , please do
If you can make a 2.1 , please do
Just do your best.
Lastly , dont forget to skill up. Get a digital skill
A university certificate is not just enough these days.
Good luck
Aluta continua!!

Greatest Engineering student
What department?

Op, no be lie. I can relate gan ni.
Thing is, I did not let my grades dampen my efforts. I was super resilient, determined and undaunted until I got what I wanted. The Nigerian educational system is so flawed that the students feel the impact intellectually. Las las na to help yourself.

If you think uniben is a frying pan, try OAU(OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY). Especially try any of white house courses( CHEMISTRY, IND CHEMISTRY, GEOLOGY). My brother you will know that there is hell on the surface of earth.

Graduated from Uniben 2018. Uniben is not difficult (or at least my faculty), it only depends on the person viewing it. As a matter of fact, Uniben is too easy. I was on a constant first class from first till final year. Never blocked or begged for Mark. I hated even being close to lecturers. Plus *I always miss class (I won't advise anyone to do this though)*

Nigeria syllabus is easy

Uniben go make u feel sey u no know wetin u dey do. I was supposed to get a first class but my grades were reduced in some courses. I eventually had a cgpa of 4.46. That was 4 years ago. Anytime I remember this, I feel so sad undecided

They obviously didn't make you feel great because that task is for you only but they should have at least helped you improve on your spelling, helped you know the difference between here and hear. I just did what they could not in the 4, 5, maybe 6 years you spent there.

My brother you are not alone in this, believe me.

I finished from Uniben in 2017 from the faculty of medical sciences and believe me, going to Uniben was the biggest mistake and regret I have in this life till now. Especially when I had the option of going to a private varsity.

Throughout my primary school and for most of my secondary school, I was a star pupil and always came at the top of the class.
Uniben was a very different story for me and I actually had an extra year.
Till now I hate Benin city as a whole and avoid going to that city like a plague, even though I have lots of family members there. Cos whenever I go there, I remember the frustrations from that school called Uniben.

Almost everything about Uniben is fvcked up. Only few faculties are sane. The rest are like a death trap.
I was an intelligentsia and erudite before I got into Uniben. I was very passionate about an academic career and education. However, I have lost all that steam attending Uniben and all my heart and attention in life have been diverted towards business.
I don't even want to hear of a master's degree with my 2 ears, in spite of how much my family is on my neck to pursue a master's.

When I was in my final year and I saw the new intakes who were very happy and excited to gain admission into Uniben, I shook my head. I pitied them.
Uniben is just like the road to hell, where before you realize how far you have gone, it's too late to turn around.

My brother, it is well.
You are definitely not alone in this.
Dust yourself and pick yourself up, things are going to be fine.

Re: UNIBEN Made Me Doubt My Intelligence by kelvyn7: 8:25pm On Sep 01, 2020
I graduated from UNIBEN in 11/12, Computer Science.
It wasn't easy i must say...
The day i stepped into the school i promised myself to make a first class but i couldn't.

Today, i stand out among my peers and colleagues even where i work. I am actually very smart but my Uniben 1st degree says otherwise cheesy

I think every hard-working student is smarter than they think, in any public Nigerian University. I say "public" because they are notorious for rejoicing when students fail their courses.

In all, it's life after school that matters!!!
Learn a skill! Learn a skill!! Learn a skill!!!
