That's one thing with you people. You think igbo is like another tribe....our republican nature makes us too diverse.

Adaobi is saying what applies to her own part of igboland. I am saying what applies in my own part of igboland.

Stop showing your ignorance...I explain why igbos are abit skeptical about OSU...it goes against our core believe which is Freedom...infact OSU is against our "live and let live" slogan.

Like I said again..there are areas in igboland dt dont subscribe to that OSU stuff.. Ume is against incest and other abominable crimes which goes against our core believes. Ume in Owerri can move to Mbaise and become freeborn...

Oga, I never even bothered to finish reading the long piffle you wrote there. I just wanted to point out to you that your fellow Igbo wrote the article hence you should leave "non-Igbo" people out of your grievances over this article, that's all

Lol. "I am ashamed of the backward ways of my people" would suffice instead of the silly excuses you produce above to validate what is not seen in most regions of Nigeria.

Its culture too..its been reformed currently and many people are living that stuff. The only thing is that its happening one at a time. That is caused by our republican and spiritual nature.

It would have been easy had it been we had one Oba, Ooni, Emir or Sultan but we don't have any of those. It will go but its gradually.

Not only in the villages. Over here in the city peoply break up engagements everyday over this same Osu cast system.

That's because their relatives in the village are the ones that make it an issue. And they can't do anything major like weddings without them.

When are going to talk about the dehumanization of women in the North ( women are properties in the North)?
When are we going to talk about the forced hijab and barqa dressing on women in the North?
When are we going to talk about allowing women to inherit land and including them in communal laws in the North?
When are we going to talk about the harassment of women wearing normal clothes by hisbah in the North?
When are we going to talk about segregating women in tiny room in the mosque?
When are we going to also talk about the segregation of Hausa bakwai and Hausa Banza (which is like the osu caste)?
When are we going to talk about not allowing an hausa man to be emir in his own land in Northern Nigeria?
When are we going to talk about forcefully prosecuting a Northerner in Sharia courts?
When are we going to talk about not allowing female yoruba monarchs to marry and give birth like queen Elizabeth?
When are we going to talk about the use of bobaku by yoruba Obas?
When are we going to talk about the use of human parts as traditional items in the West?
When are we going to talk about not allowing women own ancestral lands in the West ( not acquired lands)?
When are we going to talk about denying women their right to be emirs in the North?
When are we going to talk about denying women their rights to be Ooni of Ife and Alaafin of oyo?
When are we going to talk about not allowing women to be the Oba of Bini?
This is just to list a few.
But here we are, where everybody thinks the Igbo culture should be changed to accommodate western views while theirs should not be touched.
I only support changing customs that abuse human rights. But trying to demonize a tribe based on some side of their culture which seems weird to you is what I am against.
All African and the world's customs have bad sides, we should all work to mend those sides.

You're a very foolish person, your people are agitating about equality for ohu and osu and you're spitting jargons. People like you need confirm slap.. So you want woman to be Oba of Benin?

You brought your tribal foolishness to dive into igbo matter. You think igbo is like any other tribe that waits for one king or ruler to decree and declare before things happens or change
If you think you are diplomatic come to igboland.

I don't like involving in this argument of east and west cause I believe in one Nigeria and in one love, but the Igboamaka calling the west skull mining am not writing this to scared the iPod but the truth remain that the most fearful and dreadful place to leave is eastern part of nigeria most of the hotels are occult house am speaking from experience references to Onitsha and Awka the state capital of Anambra I ve come in contact with of the monarch around 1am in the eastern part of Nigeria where he cut the baby head apart and drinking the innocent baby blood trying to increase his spiritual power and last three years onitsha was washed off ritualistic activities of stocking human bodies in the freezer and many of such to mention but a few so the issues of OSU is one the reasons most of them don't visit thier ancestral home and u see them shouting Lagos is no mans land. Then I begin to wonder wen did Lagos relocate east to become no mans land,so I will say is we should organized a prayers for those who still belief in this primitive OSU of a thing for God to remove the scale in their physical eyes to see clearly instead of them supporting this devilish traditions that ve taken the lives of many youths with glorious future.
P.s I don't hate Igbo's in fact I ve many as my friends but the truth must b said. Even the northern part are not excluded so there is skull mining everywhere our prayers is we should not b a victims of circumstance, ask God to protect ur going out and coming in.stop insulting the most accommodating states in nigeria the WEST go to Alaba and talk about Biafra and see the way they will bushit u or talk about osu and see them stoning u to death wat matter is making money and married the best woman or man in the world either OSU or any name given to them. Igboamaka stop insulting the west that accomdate 50% of the east and save ur ass from OSU.

Forming an association of osus is nothing but inferiority complex.

The gods are wise and their ways unknown to men and for them to stipulate such rules, so shall it.

If you don't like Igbo tradition relocate to yorubaland and change your name to Olaotu or relocate to hausaland and change your name to Kawaii but if you insist on staying in Igboland them you must respect and abide by her traditions...

Come off it. This is what is preventing growth in Nigeria. They will hold on to traditions that existed more than centuries ago instead of them to review and choose the best that is best for the people.

Common, we are in the 21st century. Wake up, I am not saying you should abolish your tradition. But choose what is good for the people at this time.

I don't know why some people are still been referred to as slave here. It is time to stand up to what is good for us not relying on what was okay for them centuries ago.

Everybody likes to quench the smoke in another person's house while their village is on fire.
It's like the new thread in Nigeria is attacking Igbo customs and traditions while a young man is about to be hanged for ordinary religion and women can't be allowed to dress the way they like in North by Hisbah all because of religion.
Whereas in South West, the supposed female yoruba monarch that to them symbolizes their equality in gender is not allowed to be with a man talkless of marrying and giving birth.
Everybody in Nigeria is now a Nelson Mandela on Igbo Culture

I have great cultural fear for post Biafra Igbo land.
Re: Ohu, Osu: Nigeria's Slave Descendants Prevented From Marrying Who They Want by Ademoore07(m): 8:14pm On Sep 14, 2020
Very simple solutiong. All the acclaimed descendants of osu should just relocate to southwest and get a good spouse. What a nonsensical discrimimation. And they will want osu people to join them in the biafran struggle when they are not united. #OsuLiveMatters. #SayNoToTribalism.

Our ancestors knew the stigma associated with slavery, that is why they rather die than allow themselves to be white slaves. E.g the Igbo landing in Virginia where they all commited suicide.
An Igbo man will rather die than allow himself to be enslaved because they believe that once you are enslaved, your soul and generation become enslaved. The same spirit is what you see in IPOB members, they see Nigeria as a slave camp so they rather die than be part of it

In your mind now you are making sense abi? Don't forget that igbos will continue to be a slave in Nigeria, because no Igbo man can be president unless you change your mentality in general.

Seriously, ibo people need to stop this nonsense and archaic practise immediately. If they can be treating their own fellow ibos like this, then what hope is there for a complete non-ibo stranger in their midst?

Those ibos being discriminated against had better leave such backward society and go elsewhere, else they will hardly progress. Could this senseless discrimination be the reason why their society is still the most homogeneous and seen as the most hostile towards strangers in Southern Nigeria? One hardly hears of strangers progressing in iboland the way ibos are allowed to in other societies.

All you Ibo people still practicing this nonsense should stop it. It's not fair!!! angry angry Tufiakwa.
