Should Prostitution Be Legalized In Nigeria? (My Opinion) by MrTAnonymous(m): 1:35pm On Oct 05, 2020 |
What is prostitution? It is the practice or occupation of engaging in sexual activity with someone for payment. Prostitution is a wide subject as it is the oldest profession in the world. Recently, I found out that more than a dozen countries have legalized prostitution. That brings me to ask, should prostitution be made legal in Nigeria? To me I would like prostitution to be made legal here in Nigeria. Why? I am a liberal so I think as long as you are an adult, I think you have a right to how you want to use your body. Some people just love wilding and have a very high libido and as such would like to be who they truly are. A large percentage of our population patronise prostitutes whether they say it or not. It will reduce the number of rape cases that is rampant in our society. The Government can find ways to legalize it and tax it just like Switzerland and Germany. It will bring a lot of money to the country as the sex industry is a multi-billion naira industry. They should just ensure that there are no under age involved. They should do their best in curbing human trafficking. Even though prostitution is not legalized yet in Nigeria, you only need to walk a few miles before you begin to notice brothels littered around the ghetto-filled streets not to talk of the ones who stay on the side of the road like "Allen Avenue" waiting for a customer to come pick them up for the night. Who patronise this prostitutes? A lot of men both single and married, businessmen, our force enforcement officers, politicians, even our so called religious leaders visit and patronise this prostitutes, but rarely will you see anyone claim that they patronise them. What do you think guys, should it be legalized or not? NB::: This is my opinion, I want positive response only, don't insult me or else I will report you to the moderators. It shouldn't be legalized...we already have so much to worry about. I'm totally against it cos: Soon they will collaborate with robbers. Dirty the streets. Younger generation will learn to see it as okay. Increase in STDs. Increase in pimps. Lot's of reasons why it shouldn't be legalized and by the way legalising prostitution won't stop rape. 4 Likes |

It should never be legalised, if it happens that means you are encouraging more girls to go into that stuff which would cause more harm and damage to the society, and also the bible is against such act, . 5 Likes |

Promotions: @the bolded, anyone is liable to collaborate with robbers, you don't have to be a prostitute before you collaborate with armed robbers. I don't know what you mean by "they will dirty the street" if you can expatiate more on this With or without legalization of prostitution, younger ones will continue to learn new stuffs as long as they have a smartphone. Will you know if your kid checks xvideos, pornhub etc when he/she is alone, that is why it is your responsibility to train your kid. The bitter truth is that whether the government legalizes prostitution, it has come to stay. It has been in existence for a very long time. Even in Nigeria, it is glaring even to the blind man that prostitution is a trade that runs smoothly without law enforcement agencies disrupting their activities. Prostitutes are the safest when it comes to STD I didn't say that it will stop rape, I only said it will reduce rape cases. Incase you don't know na me talk 1 Like |

I support legalized and regulated prostitution. It should be perfectly legal for an adult to decide they want to use their body as a means of making money. The main reason it's so largely illegal is because of religious morals (and misogyny) being so deeply woven into legislation pretty much everywhere. The defense for prostitution remaining illegal is almost always a subjective moral argument and that is not a good enough reason for all of the harm that comes from keeping it that way. It's about as effective as Prohibition or the “war on drugs”: people will always seek to alter their mental state and people will always sell and buy sexual experiences, so to outlaw it only forces the activities underground, where crime rings have control and abuse is rampant and unchecked. With Craigslist's hookups page and Backpage gone, sex workers won't suddenly stop selling sex—most will just sell elsewhere and some will either begin or go back to selling on the street, in far unsafer situations and environments. In a perfect world, regulation would be the backbone to firmly separating sex work from human trafficking. That being said, I do acknowledge that there will, unfortunately, always be an overlap between the two (not to even mention people who don't technically fall into the latter category but are still doing this type of work because they have been coerced). The solution isn't illegal prostitution, I believe the solution lies somewhere adjacent to regulated sex work. Let's turn that question around. Let’s consider reasons why it would be illegal and address those. -Spread of disease. Modern legal prostitution includes regular recurring STD tests and mandates the use of barriers. The incidence of STD transmission is very low. -Chance of pregnancy. This only applies to heterosexual prostitution among fertile prostitutes and clients. The aforementioned barrier methods reduce this chance and most prostitutes use additional methods of birth control. The incidence of unwanted children is low. -Moral issues. This includes adultery, sex outside of wedlock, sex with a person you don’t love, etc. In many modern cultures we’ve greatly reduced the amount of legislative bleeps we give about these issues. Not everybody agrees about how bad they are and it’s up to the individual to deal with it themselves. -Think of the children! In many of the places where prostitution is legal, they have limitations on advertisement and other ways that children might encounter this. Plus, they’re going to find out about this from the internet anyway. As for children actually going to prostitutes, requiring ID will solve this. -Human trafficking. We already have human trafficking in criminal prostitution. Legalizing it makes this harder. When you have to fill out tax reports and doctors visits, that gives a lot more chances for victims to be found and rescued. -Entering out of financial obligation. This happens now with illegal prostitution. Legalizing it will make it safer and give more opportunities to move out of prostitution compared to the illegal variety. The original economic pressures are a symptom of wider issues with the economy and the social support net. Legalizing prostitution doesn’t fix all of those problems. -Chance of prostitutes being victimized by clients. This happens with criminal hookers already. And they have little recourse as they have to admit to a crime to report it. Making it legal gives them access to police to deal with this. Of course, getting the police to care is another matter, but we have to solve the first before we can start on the second. 4 Likes |

This is actually more a position statement than a question. Here are several responses: -Hunting,fishing and agriculture are all older professions than prostitution. -What does the age of a business have to do with its legality? -Why would countries whose moral systems are different from those in the West, legalize prostitution? -Which model would be used as the template for legalized prostitution? The Asian models? The European models? The NorthAmerican Canadian model? The US state of Nevada model? -Which types of prostitution will be legalized? Street walking? Escort services? Massage parlors? Brothels? All of them? -Which agencies will enforce this newly legalized trade? Where will the funding for these agencies come from? -Would people who have been convicted of prostitution-related offenses in the past be allowed to work in the trade now? What would occur if they did so without receiving licensing? How about people convicted of other offenses? -Where is the proof that legalizing prostitution will not cause additional problems? -How can the safety and human rights of sex workers exactly be "assured" when the rights of non-sex workers are often not done so? -How would the problem of child prostitution be handled? These question would need to be answered and answered to the satisfaction of the -authorities legalize prostitution before any movement could ever gain traction. Simply stating that it "should" be legalized isn't going to get things done. 1 Like |

virginprincess: How will prostitution cause harm and damage to the society? You said the Bible is against prostitution, yes the Bible is against it but have you ever thought about those who don't believe in the Bible huh? So because the Christian Bible doesn't support it, people who don't believe in the Bible shouldn't live life the way they deem fit. We need not lie to ourselves, in Nigeria today a lot of girls are into prostitution, just that most won't admit it. Incase you don't know na me talk |

QuinModah: Firstly, in no way did I say that prostitution should be legalized because of its age. I only emphasized that it ain't a new profession, it has always been in existence. Moral system you say? I laugh. Are you telling me that Nigeria has a good and formidable moral system? The truth is that we shouldn't always use our emotions and moral justifications to make decisions all the time, we need to be logical and stay on the objective side of issues no matter what. That has always been the difference between the developed countries and the underdeveloped, they don't make decisions based on their emotion or moral justifications rather they work on the more reasonable way out of a problem. On which model to use and the agencies that are going to be involved. We can create a model which works for us. We don't need to copy any country's system. The government can create tippelzone and prostitution legal zones with prostitutes having ID cards this way it will be easier to curb the excesses. The Government just like the other parts of the world that has already legalized prostitution will sit down and have talks on how to regulate and create models and agencies to enforce it. Since tax will be involved, funding the agencies won't be a problem. And just like marijuana was legalized in Canada, people convicted of prostitution related crime will be free to continue working in the industry. There is nothing to worry about as long as the government creates a tippelzone and create ID cards for the workers and the excesses are curbed. And on safety and human rights of the sex workers, laws are going to be made for the safety of sex workers and non sex workers. Human rights issues has always been a problem since time immenorial, it can always be curbed. Thanks for your points. Incase you don't know na me talk 1 Like |
How will prostitution cause harm and damage to the society? [/quout] You are asking how prostitution will cause harm to the society, are you for real? do you know how many fathers have disown their daughters for going into prostitution? do you know how many girls has gotten hiv because of prostitution and how many men that has gotten hiv for sleeping with prostitues? do you know how destinys has being wasted all because of that thing called prostitution? yet you support it, oh what a pity. if you have female siblings or children am very sure you will encourage them to go into prostitution since it is a good thing. |

Now, you are not being objective. You are letting your emotions get over you. Mind you, any person can contract STDs, it is not limited to prostitutes. Are prostitutes the only one liable to have STDs? No. How do we curb the spread of STDs amongst prostitutes? Prostitutes can always go for check ups regularly and use protections always just like average individuals. This is why we need the Government to legalize and regulate it. And talking about fathers disowning children because of prostitution, well this is Africa, parents disown their children for a number of reasons, not only prostitution so why pinpoint prostitution? Think about this from a neutral point of view, whether prostitution is legalized or not, a lot of people are patronizing it. Incase you don't know na me talk |

futurerex: Abortion is not legalized in Nigeria, yet people abort on a daily basis. Pornography is not good, yet the number of visit from Nigeria to sex sites like pornhub, xvideos is massive. Nigeria has the largest viewers of sex sites check it here: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.pmnewsnigeria.com/2014/12/01/nigerians-largest-porn-site-viewers/amp/ We just like deceiving ourselves in this country. MrTAnonymous: Yes lets even legalised armed robbery and cocaine, also terrorism and sucide all because people are free to use their body the way they like. Back to prostitution, prostitution damages a woman emotional, mentally and physically. |
Re: Should Prostitution Be Legalized In Nigeria? (My Opinion) by MrTAnonymous(m): 12:07pm On Oct 06, 2020 |
thebosstrevor1: We all know those things you mentioned there has nothing to do with prostitution and can't be legalized. Why? Armed robbers, terrorists infringe on people fundamental rights to live. An armed robbers steal and kill, same with terrorists. Armed robbery, terrorism and prostitution are far apart. They are quite different from prostitution, prostitutes don't infringe on people's right, it is a mutual agreement between two individuals on how and when to have sex, shey you grab? So why should you and I be bothered about two mature individuals who agree to have sex and pay for it? Oh, you said that prostitution damages a woman emotionally, mentally and physically, are you real? Has a prostitute ever told you that? Or you are using your church mind to make some unrealistic points here? Like I stated earlier, be open minded. Incase you don't know na me talk |

MrTAnonymous: So prostitution does not infringed on human right. How about spreading of STDS, CONTRACTING STDS So you think women go into prostitution because they like sex. Go check your average prostitution and see how fuuccked they are in the brain, many are without emotions. You keep writing about topics that you know nothing about. So you think prostitutes are normal mentally? 2 Likes |
