change his school, the teacher may be incompetent and uncaring.
Also take it easy on the tod. feed him well with protein and don't pamper him too much, make him feel ashamed of not knowing, it will motivate him.
Are you for real? You're talking about shaming a 3yrs old kid here on top what? Tomorrow we would complain that the child has self esteem issues or suffers from depression!

Good afternoon everyone,

please I need advice from all parents and Educators and parents on Nairanland. today I just realized my 3years old son cant even read Letters A to F talk less of A to Z but can read Figure 1 to 10, I am seriously worried.

I don't stay at home except for weekends as I am working outside my state, but due to the curfew I find my way back home yesterday so I was able to discover this problem in the early hours of today.

I know the mother is trying cos I have seen different live videos where she was teaching him and working on his assignment, most times I pity the boy so much because of the beating from his mum alone makes me sick but I can't really complain since I know is for his own good and I know how stressful it is for a mother with 2 kids to manage her time and all that....

I called his teacher immediately and she told me my son will be going to Nursery class when the present term is over due to his age, sadly she didn't say things I expect to hear from her so I told her I will visit the school once the curfew is over, I need explanation, is private school that bad these days ? my son can't even write 2 and 3

I have bought Video CD, bought many play book materials containing letters and figures displayed boldly, I bought counting and so on when he was 2 years so i expect a better result by now.

pls sir and ma, I need help on how to guide this boy to learn better, what should I do and how should I go about it.

Note: any time I am home, I always go through his books, assignments and read his school rhymes for him.

pls Help

I know how u feel about ur son because I had similar experience about 2 years ago. My son was over 3yrs but couldn't write 1 to 10 let alone A to C. you and your wife will continue to flog, pray and blame ur kid, thinking they is something wrong with him but I tell you he is an in intelligent child in a wrong a school. the school is the problem. All u have to do is change his school, not to the most expensive but the school with experience teachers who knows how to impact knowledge into ur kids. it took my son only 3 days to start writing from to 1 to 10, 1 week he was writing to 50 and now he is a genius, who can read and even do simple mathematical operations. I am sure his present school have plenty of inexperienced teacher and most time they just keep ur kid busy with cartoon and other TV shows. Like I said don't always go for the expensive school. up

This is unfair to your child. For goodness sake, a 3-year-old should be learning rhymes and some physical activities to build his mental and physical strength. What this child is been subjected to can lead to some serious psychological consequences in the future. Why do 3 years old have an assignment from school? Please allow your child to grow at his own pace, there is no cause for alarm they will catch up later trust me I know as I have first-hand experience in this regard.

My cousin didn't talk till he was five. He's 18 and in 300 level studying medicine in UNN. He's so brilliant that he got double promotion in primary school.

Please don't stress that child, keep teaching him gradually, he'll learn at his own pace.

Do not beat or instill fear when you're teaching him, try and be as gentle and soft as you can.

Just let the child be! At 3 you and your wife are putting too much pressure on him. Now it should be nursery rhythms and play. What you are doing now could affect his natural development, especially when he associates learning with beating. Please for the sake of the child and yourself, calm down!

Believe me bro, I understand your worry, I had an exact experience with my son(now 6 years old) . The fact is, he is still yet to be able to read fluently at present and now in pry 3. But I assure you, he will still read at some point most probably before he attains age 5

Those way sabi write ham at 3 years, wetin them gain.. Jackie chan was very dull at school, failed at school like 3 times then he simply told his Dad that he'd like to join Martial Art..

That was the beginning of his success.. Instead of you to watch your kid and help him discover if he has any inbuilt potential, you're already drawing useless concern on that innocent kid.

After ending Sarz, Bad Governance...People needs to End Badparenting!!

Please, don’t you or your wife lay hands on that boy again for not “learning” at your desired pace. That’s child abuse right there. He’s done absolutely nothing wrong. Rather, you are impeding his ability to learn by traumatizing him.
Same happened to me as a kid for years but today, you d never call me unintelligent.

That’s not an issue ,I myself couldn’t read till in my primary 5, when my father brought Cain and asked me to read a full animal story in my English book, Macmillan ,each time i got it wrong he gave me a serious flogging....and corrected me. I learnt how to read the same day and that particular lion and tortoise story never left my head till date.... back in my secondary school i was one of the brightest students and my uni, I graduated with 2.1 statistics..... trust me it’s all a process. Think of a better way to handle the situation now or later.... Goodluck.

Dear Concerned Daddy
Please let your son live..When will the sun shine? It will shine when it is suppose to shine...
So stop forcing your child to do what will eventually come naturally...
I am a Medical Dr..I started reading when I was in Primary 5, I was the Worst student in my primary school, barely passed junior secondary...Things changed when I entered Senior Secondary because I saw my best friend being praised by everyone on how good he was..
I concentrated.. I became the best in my school SS2 and SS 3.. I was never interested in being known hence I never considered being a Snr Prefect...
Now, former best friend went back to Medical School, may be final year now , I graduated 7 yrs ago...
" THE GRASS WILL GROW WHEN IT SUPPOSE TO GROW. GIVE IT TIME...
Note...All my primary and Jnr Secondary classmates could not believe I became A Dr...
By the way..I got a university scholarship to study abroad..

Yours Sincerely...
Once A Loser, Now A Dr.

Let your son be..the guy is too young....by the way ..the guy wants to count his on money not to blow grammer full everywhere and still broke...

For those saying he is young My daughter is 3 and can write numbers 1 to 50 and even read 2 letter words .

Make the learning more fun for him. Get him kids tablet, there are a lot of educative fun videos on YouTube and please reduce the beating you are making the child not to believe in himself.

The school is a problem.

MOST PRIVATE SCHOOL COLLECTS MONEY ONLY.

THEYVWILL SMILE WHILE COLLECTING UR CHILD FROM YOU AT THE SCHOOL GATE,
BUT ONCE U LEAVE, THEY WILL DUMP HIM AT ONE CORNER OF THE CLASS.

AND MOST PROPRETOR AND PRORITRESS DONT DO QUALITY ASSURANCE.

MOST PARENTS, DONT EVEN HELP THE CHILD WITH HOME WORK.

THEY DO BACK TO SENDER HOME WORK.

ANOTHER CAUSE CAN BE THE CHILDS READINESS TO LEARN OR WRITE.

TIME FOR A CHILD TO WRITE OR LEARN DEPENDS ON MOTOR SKILL OR COGNITIVE READINESS, IT DIFFERS.

FOR A CHILD TO BE ABLE TO WRITE, JUST LOOK AT THE WAY, HE OR SHE GRIPS THE PENCIL, AND SITTING POSITION IS ONE OF THE KEY THINGS

similar to my 3rd child. She's a girl, I was worried at first, not only that she can't read, she can't also addentify alphabets. We beat, scold and shout at her. Still no change instead it worsen her situation, because she started developing fear and shock, until her mother deployed a skill of bribing her with biscuits, then she started adjusting.
At first I was furious with the whole ideal. But later have to let go when she assured me she will stop the biscuit tactics when she catch-up. Now she's five, in primary one in one the best school here in satellite town, she's doing all well, infact no one assit her in her home works.

Note- some children are like that, some of them need time to adjust. Just take it easy with him.
Re: My 3-Year-Old Son Can't Read Or Write Letters, Please Help by Itusmama: 12:54pm On Oct 23, 2020

Note: any time I am home, I always go through his books, assignments and read his school rhymes for him.

pls Help

Be worried when he is 10 and can't read... Parents should understand that children are not the same and learning process for some is faster and for others slow that does not mean they are not brilliant they just need a little more patience and direction.
