If he is just moving to nursery classes then he is still okay with what he knows already.
Let me do a short breakdown for you
Playgroup/kindergarten (1yearold) -all they go to school to do is play sing rhymes and sleep
Prenusery1/kg1 (2year old)- learn life basic skills, greetings etc sing rhymes play and sleep. Some schools may introduce them to the alphabet but they don't really expect them to Know it
Prenusery2/kg2(3year old)- they start giving them pencil so their wrist will be trained to hold it well, they start reading the ABC so they will get used to it

Then Nursery 1 and 2 by now they would have known how to hold a pencil properly here they will start learning numbers up to 100/200 so when they get to nursery 2 the will start all these 2/3 letter word.





Just keep calm and find time for your kid. Monitor his improvement and communicate well with his teacher

His mates can write 1-50 at least,that's his level, if mixed in a class with such kids,he will be left behind because not all teachers have that kind of patience.He needs home coaching.

I can only imagine that child being beaten every day in school, and when he hears the school bell to go home he becomes despair because he knows his mother who should help comfort him and teach him with patience will also beat. What a psychological torture.


Learning is a process, try and make it fun for him. @kenny1111 tell your wife to calm to calm down and teach him with patience and if she cant, pls look for an after school teacher who will.

Schools have just resumed in Delta state .They gave teachers 10weeks to prepare their learners for the term .Now the government just imposed 48hrs curfew and the learners have been told to stay at home till November 2nd .Later on you will start blaming teachers when your child starts saying 3 times 2 = 32 and 4 times 5 = 45 .
Stop blaming teachers, blame your government. Teachers are not magicians .If the thing easy ,teach your child for house make you see as he be .If you can't ,employ a home tutor

You mean your wife is beating a 3 year old for not been able to write? You people should fear God ooo.Can you write the alphabets at his age?His motor skills are just beginning to develop now.Jusybkeep playing videos of alphabets for him.They are all over on youtube.With time he will be tbenone disturbing you with the scribbling s trying to write the alphabets.And from my experience,the male child are slower at picking up at that age than the female.

You also need to watch these videos and learn appropriate techniques at writing each if the alphabet. Don't beat the poor boy oo.

Moreover from Toddler to Garade 1 that's all they will learn.Alphabets and numbering so relax!!!

Stop beating him, your complaints sounds like autism to me, does he find it difficult to interpret speech or instructions? If yes! The boy needs help from you..... & you must not be tired teaching him.... it’s a difficult task, but it can happen & can be solved with devotion on him. Stop beating him cos you are only damaging & harming him the more. Teach him how to hold pencil by putting it in his hand while you hold on to that hand & do the moves repeatedly, teach him two letters per day, if he does not get it well it must be repeated the following day before you move to another....... one the boy can write A to Z and can write 1 to 10 the rest will become a history.... school can’t help you, you must help yourself by helping him. I am talking from experience, there is an autistic child near me, & he has improved greatly & performing well.. please, stop beating & do the needful . The child has bee at home for 7 months without a tutor, he most likely has forgotten. Children thrive on routine not one off teaching, does your son have a routine? Another thing is that children play learn, if you are a little hard on them they zone out. If you are in Lagos I can link you up with an educator who facilitate home schooling and trains parents on home schooling.

my younger brother couldn't read and write till age 5 .we all were shocked to see him read story books at age 7 till now he reads novels of 1000 pages and writes stories alot ,an art student now studying law
make reading fun for your baby boy
he will pick up
turn alphabets into a music for him and he will pick interest in writing .

Use your phonics sounds to help the child.
he should know his sounds a_z then you can start with blending two soundable words like....a-n=an a-t=at

He may have learning disability and be very gifted . please be patient with such child . you may need to get special needs teacher who can help

the current educational syllabus intends to raise professors at 4 years. the child is only 3 years sir. so long he can sing some children rhymes even if he doesn't pronounce them correctly he is at par with his age grade

Please tell the mother to ease up on the beatings. Children learn at different pace.

What you can do is keep letting him watch fun filled educational materials and observe him. Give him a year or two and just be observing to find out where his strength lies. Then work around that.

Having fun while learning is the best way to teach kids don't instill fear in him by beating him. Please be patient with him. This is not the time to panick.

i can tell you this what my parents did to me. I couldn't spell Lagos when I was in primary 3.they beat the hell out of me.. Carried to all time of extra moral classes.. But it didn't work. It never did. I just felt stressed and unhappy.. I can imagine the stress you are putting that little boy to. Pls don't support your wife to beat him up. It's not for his good.. You are just messing up the little boy's psychology....
Right now I think what you should do. Is trying to make learning a fun thing to him and not a workload that has to be done before he can play... This is the Stage you should find out what he is most interested in.. In my case my parents found out I liked stories. So When I was in primary 6,they introduced the state library to me..... I can tell you it got better that way.... So if your kid is good in numbers.. That's a good development.. Encourage him...
