Yes but it depends on thr platform the card is being used, For a debit card used in Nigeria, it will require to be authenticated with a pin or OTP, but when used on a foreign sires or merchant, the card number, expiry date and cvc code is enough to complete a transaction, infact most POS machine outside the country requires just a swipe or tap if the card and machine is NFC enable. So the advice is to be taking serious, this fraudsters can use your card information for foreign transaction or sites that don't require PIN or OTP authentication

Somone I know fell victim , he's acc was used to purchased gasoline and other groceries at a filling station in Mexico around 2am and the deduction last till 4am.it look like a film though but how they get access to the account is what I don't know all the way from Mexico.... Local bank couldn't explain after tagging mastercard international and cbn on twitter and emails to cbn. Local bank made full refund after 7 days.

U ar right, I remembered when I wanted to change a flight ticket with Emirate airline, all I have to do is give them my card details, expiry date and d 3 digit at d back of d card, before u know debit alert follows immediately..

Some guys are not fully aware abt how some sites bypass OTP and card pin, try and pay Canadian visa fee, all u need to do is card number, expiry date, name on d card and d 3 digits at d back of d card.. Next thing u see is [/b]payment successful[b] without sending OTP or asking for card pin

• HOW IT IS BEING DONE

When you go to a POS terminal to make a transaction, he/she will collect your ATM card and slot it into an ATM machine. After few seconds, he/she will tell you that the POS machine is malfunctional (i.e not working properly). He/She will tell you that you should wait while he/she bring another POS machine inside.

When he/she goes inside, your ATM card will be snapped (including the surface and below) with a smartphone. He/She will surely come out with another POS machine, but you will not know that your ATM card had been snapped and sent to fraudsters! The fraudsters will now use your ATM card details and make transactions online!

They probably have a syndicate that steals account details then sells it internationally

International transactions don't really require otp and pin; but your bank can't request a charge back on your behalf as 2fa was not done for that transaction.

It’s not forming woke I left a Nigerian bank for an International one for this same purpose it’s about technology and security. They might have the number but that’s all they have. American and European Banks have a Fraud department and their job description is to view your transactions live. A website you’ve never visited an item you have never searched before you bought a different IP address without travel history cannot go through.

Your first mark could be your last mark.

Well you're right. I want to quickly also say that haven't you seen or heard how some were scammed without their pin or disclosure of it?
I have seen and witness a few that happens. How they do it I don't know but it's good to be careful and vigilant. They grow in technique each day and each minutes

No one can make transaction via MasterCard without his/ her PIN but many Merchant doesn't require OTP once you provide ur PIN nowadays.

I still believe some careless folks will easily fall the simple trick.

Please not all transactions need such verification I can say from experience. During the lockdown bought some shirt online from China they didn't send any verification before making the debit.

They only requested for my card number, expiring date(year and month) and the 3 digit number at the reverse side of the card
