So many times i read this stuff over and over but the answer of what you should have in your bank account is. YOU.
At a point when i wanted to get married my first gf pitied me as a struggling guy trying to improve my conditions and eloped with another guy who is a veterinary doctor, i pleaded with her things will always get better but she turned deaf ear, so i let it be. Few months after i met another princess who felt she will rocks the boat with me irrespective of my conditions. At that time still trying to grow the business and when it was time to plan the wedding she also expect me to empty all i have to plan the wedding but i expressly said NO. Though i could afford #25000 wedding ring but i said i was going to wed her in #800 ring she told her family and some of them kicked against it, invited me for a talk telling me they already got the ring just for me to use on the wedding day because of their status, i stood up and re emphasis it again is either my #800 ring or am not interested in the marriage again because it is all about me. Then i was poor with PRIDe because i know what GOd have in stock for me.
The joy of it is that, the wedding was so successful and dont have to think of paying back loan. I spent within my budget 10 years ago and things get betterfor us everyday. My wife seat on top of my international schools in Nigeria, while i do international business in law enforcement.
Guys all you need in the bank is YOU.

Alright then, be my baby mama here in Nigeria and drag me to court and let's see how it pawns out...
There are no such stringent extant child support laws in Nigeria like we have in europe and the rest. Infact most cases are only judged based on precedence and ofcourse the discretion of the judge and are open to negotiations
You can receive as low as 5k a month as child support in case you don't know because it's very open to negotiation.. and Nobody goes to jail for defaulting

With regard to where you suggested that baby daddys who do not accept to be milked by their spouses are useless, you just exposed how y'all see any relationship with the opposite sex as an employment of some sort..
Trying to shame or manipulate me into seeing reasons with you won't work here.
I'll try my best as a baby Daddy for my kid, if it's not good enough my baby mama should augment the rest.
Period
I admit I don't know much about Nigeria's laws on child support but isn't it calculated based on the erring parent's income i.e the richer you are the more you pay?And it seems one can make a report if baby daddy is defaulting in Lagos state.

No, if you can bring a child into the world, you have to be responsible for it.
There's more to raising a kid than just providing financial support, you know?If she's good enough to be a baby mama, why not wife her?.

if u follow ppl words u won't make decisions because in marriage u make those decisions without anyone there with you but ya wife so I will tell you this! Marry a woman who can manage ya focus no look out for slay queen because today u know ya landmarks so think about It and if u already have a good lady follow her reason and do ya marriage in a simple way as ya budget reach and if u marrying from a region with less bills good for you.

Please brother, it's either you decide to get married or you abstain from it for the time being.

Don't imbibe this culture of baby mamaism, it's devilish and childish, you will eventually raise kids that will be love deficient.

a friendly advice though

but if na me get wetin u get, I for don marry..

you are talking to a male Ape, and you expect an Ape to see something good in that which is not Ape. He already called his mother an Ape, and Apes only give birth to Ape(s). He is only angry that he could not find the Ape he is in the women around him. He will have to travel home to marry his sisters who are Apes because that is the only Ape family in our country. Stupid young man who lacks intelligence and brilliance.

Hello Nairalanders,

I’m 30yrs of age, and I never for once consider getting married, I lost interest totally, but this should incase i decide to tie the nut, how much should I have in my bank account to be on safer side before dragging myself into a life time contract with someone else daughter??

I currently own a car, and managing a salon plus other bussiness thag comes once a while, I’m working towards having a building of my own before getting married, but you see the country is so messed up right now that building a three bed room apartment for yourself is so difficult.
Families and friends are dragging me to get married without considering my financial status, they all felt I have what it takes to get myself a wife......lol tho I’m not moved or shake by their claims but I really need to know this.

Can one settle down with an available balance of a million naira and feel safe?

If you recently get married here, can you pls do a cost implication of the said wedding and cost of running your marriage since inception??
Many guys are scared, I swear

There's a big difference between "money in the bank" (It can only go down in value due to inflation) and investment (brings in money daily). Money in the bank is not yours. Having an investment that bring in money is much better. If you do not have more than one source of income, do not think of marriage

I laugh when I read peoples comment as they type rubbish, keep planning until when you loose the one you have and can't even call any girl.

I know of a friend who got a bank job and 3months after wedding, he was disengaged.
I have a friend who was afraid of wedding and was pushing to give birth before wedding, what happened after the wedding, the child died.
I know a friend who had all it takes and got married, He gave birth to a premature baby, they put the baby in incubator for months. What happened? He borrowed and went back to square one.

What if you see a rich lady, working and earning a leaving and after wedding during child birth he dies with CS of course no running.
I am married, I married just last year, I trained my wife in high institution, she got pregnant along the line, I rushed and paid bride price, fixed wedding my wedding and still in school.

My dear muscle up and take the bull by the horn

Don't listen too any lady giving you advice here . They are the ones that benefits from marriage unlike the men that loose everything.

Did you grow up in a home or a house? Did you see your mother gain all and your father lose all? The dysfunction in our society is the result of many failed homes because what I read on NL is an indicator to this fact.

Marrying in Nigeria now is difficult let alone an Igbo girl. My elder brother will be tying the nuts in January and I can tell you it's only God that has been helping him. The drinks our potential in-laws listed amounted to over 300k!! I wonder why most parents see their daughters marriage as a means to amass possessions.
bros this list have existed long before now. No be because of your brother them do am. It is tradition! it is also negotiable

Dear poster from what you wrote, I think you are good to go, but who is the bride to be, is she a woman with good brain or useless woman.

And about wedding, it depends on your tribe, in Yoruba you can wed with less than 200k and you can spend 10milion that it won't be enough, it depends on the kind of wedding you want, if it's low key with like 20 people in attendance, you are good to go.

And having a steady source of income is the most important, you will only live within your source of income, and however if you want to wait till you have 10million in your account before you marry, you may end up dying single with the current situation of Nigeria. So plan your life within the means

Different strokes , for different folks with different coats. The generally wise advise is to cut your coat according to your own size. Which is why you must take any advise you get here within the context of your own realities.

Having said that, If you are asking how much should be in your bank account before you get married, then let me tell you before hand, that what ever number you arrive at , will in the end not count.

Weddings, es have a way of springing up surprises on you, especially if there is a traditional angle to it and you are going from the city to the villa to perform the rites.

Even when, like me you have your entire budget on an excel spreadsheet, (thanks to my financially prudent and project manager fiancee, now wife :l). But yeah, a budget helps you to keep track and not go off the rails. Just make sure you make room for contingencies 5-20% depending on your total budget.

In the end you will still find that just like raising a child, it takes a "village" to get married. It helps to have friends and family , like mine, who are not stingy, even when you try to form "Mr Independent" like me.cheesy

I wish you all the very best.

You call 300k amassing wealth? Men spend that on 2 bottles of Moet in a Club (not the highest ranking clubs like Quilox oo). Just go and work smart bro. Make money and you will not have a reason to complain.
