Guy you be learner. One million na change some spend 10 million or more than for wedding money gotten illegally an the baby go respect without mind the source. See with the current situation of the country na baby Mama sure pass because politicians have make life difficult for the masses. That is the real truth even a girl you love so much that will pressure you in to marriage claiming to support you that one na big lie. Once you marry you are on ur own. No girl is ready now to support her man for marriage. They keep there money why you spend yours an claim my money is mine why your money is our money. Be wise boy what an elder see why sitting a child cant see why standing. Who quote me hug transformer.

Marriage on the side of the world is another means of alleviating or ameliorate poverty...
Naija ladies don't mind being the 9th wife provided the man is loaded...

No lady wants to reason with you....all they want to do is to test your financial capability.. And that why we have a lot of single ladies who might not have hope of getting married in their lifetime.

Guys, if you have the opportunities to travel abroad, and marry a foreigner...they are better wives and in-law materials than those in Naija.

Tueh.....god forbid that I should marry a Naija lady...

Hello Nairalanders,

I’m 30yrs of age, and I never for once consider getting married, I lost interest totally, but this should incase i decide to tie the nut, how much should I have in my bank account to be on safer side before dragging myself into a life time contract with someone else daughter??

I currently own a car, and managing a salon plus other bussiness thag comes once a while, I’m working towards having a building of my own before getting married, but you see the country is so messed up right now that building a three bed room apartment for yourself is so difficult.
Families and friends are dragging me to get married without considering my financial status, they all felt I have what it takes to get myself a wife......lol tho I’m not moved or shake by their claims but I really need to know this.

Can one settle down with an available balance of a million naira and feel safe?

If you recently get married here, can you pls do a cost implication of the said wedding and cost of running your marriage since inception??
Many guys are scared, I swear
my brother with one million, u can get marry and continue with your life. Just pay her bride price do introduction probably low key traditional marriage, go home with your wife and set out how things will work out for both of you. I don't believe in spending millions on top marriage. If Ur babe is an understanding woman she go apply wisdom because after marriage Dia are other responsibilities awaiting. And make sure Ur wife have something doing.

Which part of the country are you from, and you said you married an igbo lady? Are you saying you did all this with less than a million base on the part you married from

I must confess, it was more.
I know the major concern is bride prize. I wouldn't include that as wedding cost so let's leave that out.

Actual wedding cost which I believe can be cut/done away with are:
- Reception: we spend a lot of reception that wouldn't add any value to the marriage. Well, except you are sure of some friends who would come spray some cash sha. In that case if you extrapolate that cash sprayed will exceed the cost of having a reception then go ahead. In my case, I didn't do a full fleshed reception. I just had a small get together with friends. We were not more than 30 and luckily I got huge discount on deco and my friends supported wella. Good to have great friends.

- Feeding: you shouldn't kill yourself on top this matter. Its not as if the people coming for your wedding do not have food at home. Its not as if they are relying on just the food you will share. So please budget within your pocket and work towards it. If budget no reach am abeg leave feeding. Anyone that's not happy better not come or go hug transformer. You are not FATHER CHRISTMAS.

- Honeymoon: my brother from another mother. This one eh...just give her a lovely hotel room with flowers. Even if its just for a night. Just make it memorable even if na inside your house. There will be many times for honeymoon in the future trust me. But the first sha should be something memorable and not necessarily expensive. You can work something nice out on this.

In all these, it is important to have a woman who understands. I know parents can be a bit stretchy especially when its a first son/daughter doing the wedding. While they bring in their opinions, make them understand its your wedding and you do not have funds for all the extras they are suggesting. If they will assist then its fine...and stand on your word.

See eh....after everything if you and your spouse enter begging-mode cos of too much debt eh nobody go look una side. Always remind your spouse of this.

What do I know....I just get wedding.
I'm less than 1wk old and haven't see life....abeg make I read other comments jare.

Pride Price and Wedding Ceremony have swallowed the 1milli

I have a friend in your kinda situation
He is also a nairalander
He has postpone his wedding simply because his in-law are demanding above 300k for Traditional wedding
Now guess how much he will spend on the White Wedding

If only our Parent can cut their greed of milking their Potential son in-law
Also the wives should cut their coat accordingly

That is why ladies marry who is ready not who they love
Must there be a white wedding?
Why can't people do the normal wedding here (which is called traditional) where you pay the bride price? Putting on suit and all that is the traditional way it is done for the western world.
Do registry with less than 30k, just 2 people should be there, pay bride price and move ahead.

You were right, but then answer my question, is it safe for me with the said amount to do all these you listed
Depend on where you choose to settle down,in the north 1mil is enough to start a family COS of the low cost of living compared to the South. Seriously what you need in addition to that 1mil is a very good wife who has managerial capabilities, that's the most important thing. Even if you have millions and you marry the wrong woman, you'll be more broke than when you first started hustling. There are many good women out there but u need to shine your eyes and pray for wisdom,so that you would be able to identify her when the time comes

It has nothing to do with how much you have in your account but how much regularly comes into the account. I had less than 60k in my account on my wedding day yet, we still slept in a 100k a night room for 4 days. You get the gist ?

Sorry am using a Colleague's account to visit Nairaland.

Now to matter, my Own is I never would spend above 1% of my Total Worth on anything Marriage Ceremony whether Traditional or Cultural or Black or White or Green Wedding or whatever name they choose to give it.

If I manage find you worthy of my small time and your People come want Hammer on top ma head, I go just call their Daughter (the Bae) aside and tell her to speak with her people and I would let her in on the Maximum amount possible for everything.

If dem do strong Head, I take a Pass; People need understand there's life after the Ceremonies most of which are not just unnecessary but redundant.

Everything depends on how you want it to be. U can do both traditional and white wedding same day to cut down cost or you do them separately but you have to be mindful of incuring unnecessary expenses to yourself because once the ceremony is over, reality sets in. Just have up to #800K depending on the State or town you are marrying from. Good luck bro
