I like the interviewer.. was even courteous in informing the girl of her ineligibility..

She doesn't have the temperament, courtesy and character for the job..

interview
OscarJaden:
A lady identified as Mary who applied as an intern in a firm last month lost the job because of the way she replied the interviewer unknowingly on Whatsapp.

The interviewer greeted her but before he could introduce himself, she was already blasting him with questions. Even when he tried to calm her down, she refused.

in her words:Wat nonsense, don’t tell me 2 calm down. Who is this?

Her reply was rude, but the situation could have been handle better if the company gave prior notification on how they would reach her if she was selected.

Come, what exactly is your problem? Are you lacking in basic comprehension skills? Didn't you read where they tried to call her on numerous occasions but she failed to pick up?
You're starting to sound like a broken record with your numerous replies. Just keep shut and stop embarrassing yourself.

OK, check this:

Nonsense. Absolute nonsense. You don’t chat someone up on WhatsApp like they did.

They should send text messages. If mobile calls failed, send texts with the no provided, send an email. That’s professional and documented. If she fails to reply, the company will have it on their records.
What if she claimed that her troublesome sibling was with her phone? What if she claims that someone nicked her phone?

The whole HR team need to go on training.

Anyone could have had access to her phone at that time and gave such response.

WhatsApp, Facebook are for social interaction and I’m surprised this is even being debated here.

A company should act professional and send messages professionally.

Have you eve heard of the word customer relations? Customer is everything. It takes a year to get a customer but one second to lose one. Only Nigerians with their ignorance that do not understand this. Imagine it's a customer that chatted this silly woman with a job proposition that could cause the company to break even, she replies this way. Awful awful awful

Maybe you should know that people put on different personalities and communication at work different from home. How you attend to a customer or client is different from how a jobless Nigerian girl answers a random number that chats with her. The company may have lost a rare gem and talent they could train and harness because the HR boy from mr Samson was not professional enough in a simple interview. He's looking to employ people that kneel down and call him sir.

I have cause to tutor people on ordinary courtesy on social media. Politeness doea not make you more vulnerable to unscrupulous people than you already are and neither does courtesy deprive you of your wariness.
Whats all that " who is this?" Why not "who I'm I chatting with pls?". Even with the worst experience that could cause such outburst, that conduct smacks of very low IQ and shows a person bereft of basic intelligence

Re: Lady Loses Job To 'Who Gave You My Number?' Question On WhatsApp by Web2020: 9:02am On Nov 28, 2020
The truth is that she is not fit to work in a Corporate environment. Why on earth will she reply in that manner? Average Nigerians ladies are like this. I don't know what has happened to courtesy in their lives.

When ever you are called, the person that called you is superior at that point of call, until you hear him out; we are all a fool of what will don't know.

I agree, but try and look at it from this perspective : you receiving a text from an anonymous number on WhatsApp is a breach on your privacy and security. And as you know, this is 9ja, and you cannot vouch for the next man. So her response is only natural given the circumstances

Na question alone..Who gave you my number Hv cut me off wit many ladies..

Oga, in saner climes, there is what we call a "Standard Procedure" of recruitment.

This is done by companies with an organised structure on ground and most of these companies (except you are running a mushroom company ) have this standard procedure for REACHING out to applicants. It can be through SMS, WhatsApp, Social media, Newspapers etc.

These companies will notify you(the applicant) prior to when the outcome of the interview is out.

And not through impromptu tactics being done here by this...this...chai! I do not know even know what to call this company sef.

I call them a smart modern thinking company. The best way to test character is impromptu. So the company should in this day and time give her the notice to "package" herself. In my opinion experience probably got them using this tactic and from the looks of it, they dodged a bullet. Always be courteous whoever will pick your call will come like a thief in the night. smiley

There is no company that puts the talent of a staff before the loyalty of a customer. To hell with your talent. Na you go buy yourself?

I do support the lady's rudeness, but the company should have informed her on the method they would use to contact her in case she was selected. It is just standard procedure.

This will serve as a lesson to other ladies that always form too important.

.oga I will indulge you to go and establish ur company and do it in standard procedure, company can choose whatever for or platform to interview.

Sometimes ago, a big company want to recruit, on the day of interview, they gathered all applicants in one auditorium for long time without attending to them, wen it was like 2 hours after they gathered without attending to them, one guy came out among the applicants to address them and he admonished them to sit properly and them to maintain decorum, when he was arranging them, 3 other guys joined him to arrange them, after they have been arranged, human resources manager came out and told them, that they should be going because interviews had been conducted.

The guy and other 3 guys who arranged them were selected, the 4 guys were arranging other applicants not knowing CCTVs had been installed in the auditorium, the company want to select employees who can be team managers and the one guys fitted into it

Even though Mary here messed up badly but what you narrated here isn't a proper interview process.

It should be frowned at.

They could have been formal too, like addressing her as Miss as they later did. It's a useless and unserious criteria for dismissing a potential worker.
Just listen to yourself, go and buy sense on the market

Pls they didn't test her alertness to emergency. They tested her on the grounds of customer relations which I've understood is a rocket science word for Nigerians. Truly this company understands that customer is king so she's just not suitable. because if I have need for this company and one way or the other I pick up this intern's complimentary card, text her number on WhatsApp and get this reply, I will forward the entire screenshot to her manager and paint a very grotesque picture in writing that will get her fired in 5 seconds. That's just what the company has done before things spoil for them.

Why not reach her on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms as well??

I don’t know which environment you are operating from but ethics and professionalism should apply in ways that company interact with people.

That lady might have been receiving unsolicited texts from strangers, anyone could’ve been in possession of her phone at the time. If a company uses this means to test potential employees...then they must be crazy...

It’s like my uncle hiding money in his pocket and asking me to wash his clothes back then...I’ll politely give him the money but subsequent ones, I made sure I wash the clothes and the pockets till the notes form papier-mâché...he had to stop....perhaps if potential employees give this people a mouthful via WhatsApp, they’ll act professional.

You call that natural I am sick and tired of my countrymen
For the fact that someone calls you by your name shows a level of familiarity.
And that question "where did you get my number" is archaic. She would have simply said. "Good afternoon" while wait the man's response. And atmost say "How may I help you"

I don't know where you are getting your thinking from but I have received countless messages from anonymous numbers but I have always accorded them courtesy because I don't know what message or opportunity may be coming to me from it. Please it's time we begin to discourage bad mannerisms at whatever disguise from our society.
