Politics30TH ANNIVERSARY: Osinbajo Invokes Blessings On Akwa Ibom State by premium9ja(op): 11:03pm On Sep 24, 2017
It was a harvest of spiritual blessings in Akwa Ibom State on Sunday, 24th September, 2017 during the thanksgiving service for the celebration of 30th anniversary of state creation, at the Uyo Township Stadium, as the Vice President of Nigeria, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, prayed for God’s blessings upon the state.

Prof. Osinbajo, who was in the state since Saturday to commission three projects including the Jubilee Syringe Manufacturing (JSM) Company Limited, Metering Solution Manufacturing Services Limited (MSMSL), and the General Hospital, Etinan, said that part of their primary assignments as ministers of God was to bless people wherever they find themselves.

He congratulated Akwa Ibomites for the wonderful celebration of the 30th anniversary of the state which is named after the Almighty God, and particularly commended the wife of the governor, Mrs Martha Udom Emmanuel, for her great hospitality and generosity, including services rendered to women of the state. “I will take back with me your name ‘the Martha that Matters’.”

The Vice President said: “Thanksgiving is a great spiritual work and the rewards are immense indeed, that is why your Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, has taken the trouble to put this together so that we can all thank the Almighty God.

“I’m sure all of us know the story of the ten lepers in Luke 17:11, after they were healed by the Lord Jesus Christ. Only one of them returned and fell on his face to thank God with a loud voice. And Jesus asked ‘where are the other nine?’ Then Jesus said to him, go for thy faith has made you whole.

“The essence of all of that is, when people have leprosy, their limbs and fingers fall off. When you are healed of leprosy, it doesn’t mean that your toes, fingers, and limbs will be replaced. But for the one who returned to give thanks, the Bible says not only was he healed, but was made whole. In other words, he was restored completely. The fingers that had fallen off were restored.

I pray for this state, the Governor and everyone within the state, that everything that was lost be restored. Every lost opportunity will be restored. Time that had been lost will be restored. And for this thanksgiving, you will be made whole.”

Quoting from Isaiah 60:20-21 and Proverb 4:18, Prof. Osinbajo further prayed that “Your sun shall no longer go down; your moon shall not withdraw itself, for the Lord will be your everlasting light. And your days of mourning, the days of sadness has ended.

“But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day. So it is concerning the light of God in your life. It will not stop today, it will shine brighter every day unto the perfect day. The Lord will help, support, be with you and establish Himself amongst you. As you have praised God, songs of thanksgiving will not seize from your homes and this state.”

The state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, in his remark, noted that the difference between Jesus Christ and those who went for baptism was acknowledgement. “Others passed through normal rituals of baptism, but the Bible says in Luke chapter 3 that ‘Jesus Christ, waiting for Him to be baptised, while praying, the heavens opened.’ The difference comes from who acknowledges God.

“As a state, we must acknowledge God if we want prosperity to reach us. That is what makes the difference; that was what changed the genealogy of Jesus Christ from the son of Joseph to the Son of God.

“Today, we have come to thank God for the birth of our state, but in doing this, we should remember that every birthday celebrates the event, not the process. We should note that every good and perfect gift comes from God. The state is good and perfect because it is from above.”

The Governor emphasised that the reason God heed the cries of the people was to shower His blessings and love upon. “We should remember that we are men and women of honour as we celebrate our 30 years as a state.

“We are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; the only state named after God, the only people named after God Almighty – Akwa Abasi Ibom State – that we should show forth the praise of Him who called us out of darkness into His marvellous light. This is our challenge and duty.”

Governor Emmanuel charged all who stretch with bitterness in their hearts, and done wickedly against God and Akwa Ibom State to repent and join to build a greater future together. “Let us arise, shine for our light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon us.

“I use this opportunity, as it has been preached, that wherever there was darkness in our lives, state and nation, by the risen of the Holy Spirit and the celebration of this 30th anniversary of the state, let there be light.”

Founder of the Christian Central Chapel International, Bishop (Dr) Emmah Isong, in his message titled ‘Arise, Shine for Thy Light Is Come’, said that the glory of the Lord is risen upon Akwa Ibom State, adding that Jesus is the light of the world, and that we don’t need to live in darkness because light has come.

He attributed what has been robbing us from shining to stealing, killing and destruction which is recorded in John 10:10, that the thief comes only to kill, steal and destroy. “If you look at what is going on in the nation today, have you not seen those three things – stealing, killing and destruction? Jesus said it is the enemy who does that.”

Taking excerpt from John 5:5-12 which talks about a young man whom Jesus Christ healed from infirmity which he suffered for 38 years, Bishop Isong said 30 years represent the years of Akwa Ibom while 8 years represent the reign of Mr Udom Emmanuel as Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

“Whoever celebrates 30 years, 8 years follow. Anybody sitting in government when we are giving glory to God at 30 years, God promised to give the person eight years.”

According to him, the problem we have is too much complaint about connection. “The young man, when Jesus asked him if he believed he could be made whole, began to complain that he had nobody. Jesus did not say you need anybody. After this celebration, a feeling of inferiority is no more our identity.

“After Jesus healed the young man, people that had seen that man, began to complain. We need to be delivered from gossips, complaints, rebellion, antagonism, and all kinds of restiveness both in the media, churches, political divides and the general public. Allow me to shine. Shine your shine while I shine my shine.”

Dignitaries who graced the occasion were Governor of Delta State, Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa; Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun; Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Moses Ekpo, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly (AKHA) Speaker, Barr. Onofiok Luke, and state Executive members, to mention but a few.

FamilyHow To Save Money And Manage Your Family As Young Couple by premium9ja(op): 9:01pm On Sep 18, 2017
Falling in love and getting married is great. You are two adults starting off a life together. You don’t need much; it is easier to take decisions, manage your finances and save for the future. Then, your dreams come true… a baby comes along…and maybe twins. You are now a family and there are more mouths to feed, priorities are different and you are limited in so many surprising ways.

The shift from being a young couple to being a young family can be quite challenging – especially when it comes to finances – if you are not prepared.

You have to be extra careful in what steps you take, change the way you do a few things, and be willing to make a lot of sacrifices. Bad financial decisions can have a ripple effect into the future.

Luckily, there are a few steps you take to make the transition a little easier for you to handle on a budget

Have a family budget

When it comes to finances, budgets can be lifesavers. As a young family, there are so many responsibilities and activities that would stretch your finances, and if you do not have a practical budget, you may be flat broke and taking loans before you know it. Your budget has to be a completely different plan – from when you were just a young couple. Start by working out how much money you actually make, where your money has been going, the core responsibilities you have, payment to be made (debts and utilities), e.t.c then give yourself a full money makeover.

Create a practical plan that will allow you to channel your money in the right direction, spend wisely and save. Ask yourself “What can we afford?” not “what do want?” If you are not particularly good with numbers, you can download one of the many budget planner apps or hire and accountant. However, the goal is to ensure you are budgeting correctly. This will help you save so much in future and have a better life.

Buy Second hand Items

There is nothing wrong with using second hand items. If they are functional, then you have to be selective of what item you get for second hand and which you have to get as brand new. For instance, while it would sensible to buy fairly used toys, books or furniture for your children’s rooms, it would not make any sense to buy fairly used diapers or breast pads. Buying fairly used items helps you save a lot of money that would have been spent on brand new gear. Also, you are able to get more “big ticket” items such as bicycles or hover boards for small amount of money and you do not have to sacrifice your kids’ fun buy cutting such off on your budget.

Go for reusable Items

You also want to invest in reusable items. Sure it feels good to just use something and throw it away without have to clean it for reuse, but while disposable items are cheap and convenient, buying them repeatedly will drain you before you know it. Instead of using paper products for instance, you can go for things made with good quality material. For instance, paper towels cost an average of N300 per roll and Wet wipes cost an average of N800 per pack of 100, but a pack of washable cloths, which can used over 100 times, costs an average of about N400. Swapping disposables for reusable will save you a lot of money.

Plan Your Meals and avoid eating out

When you are newly married, it makes sense to have date nights and order in on lazy Saturday evenings. If anything, it helps with the romance and all. But once the babies come in, and you have a few relatives living with you, you cannot be having an impromptu trip to KFC in lieu of dinner or ordering Domino’s Pizza…not if you do not want to drown financially. Doing that will ensure you are probably eating N1000 per person or more. It may seem very little, it’s just food… but in reality, it is indeed a budget buster.

Instead of eating out, take the time to plan your family’s meals – that way you can serve up a meal for under N500 a serving, save money and eat healthy while you are at it. And you can also even freeze left overs and eat later.

Entertain at Home

Have all your celebrations at home! From birthdays to naming ceremony e.t.c make sure you do all the catering and invite guests to celebrate with you are home. There is no need to rent a hall and hire caterers…unless of course you are super rich and you can afford all of that. But if you are looking to cut down costs and save money, keep the gathering small and close-knit.

Also, when the kids start to drive you crazy and you just want to go dump them somewhere, maybe GET Arena, or FilmHouse…think again. Outside the house means spending more. find a way to keep them entertained at home. Play a home movie and give them popcorn, allow them to go outside and play or give them a puzzle or board game. If you must take them out, look for free park or take them to their grandma’s.

Christianity Etc10 Good Reasons Why You Should Go To Church by premium9ja(op): 7:51am On Sep 17, 2017
I have come to understand one thing that is deceiving alot of people Now in the world. this one sounding word has got people 'THE CHURCH IS YOUR HEART" failing in their endeavours, am not condemning that your heart is not Church, No. But am saying we all Must go to Church because it is the only place were we all can meet Cry, Worship and Ask our Creator for Forgiveness.

Some even believe in staying at home to read their Bible, all this still works but you need to refresh your soul with his presence.

Below are 10 Good reasons why we should go to Church!

1. If you follow Christ, you are part of the body of Christ, and body parts, by nature, are connected. I know a sweet young woman who is recovering from surgery on the stump of her leg right now, so I can picture what a troublesome thing it is to have an amputation (1 Cor. 12:27).

2. God wants to show others who he is through YOU. When you get involved at church, people get a bigger understanding of who God is (1 Cor. 12:7). Crazy, huh?

3. You have been given a spiritual gift that is to be used to build up the body of Christ. Your gift is something other believers desperately need (1 Cor. 12)!

4. You need to eat, learn and pray with other believers (Acts 2:42-47).

5. You need to share with others, which means you have to hang out enough that you see the needs your brothers and sisters have. And they're gonna wanna share with you (Acts 2:45).

6. You need encouragement, and other believers need encouragement from you on a regular basis because this life is seriously hard (Heb. 10:25).

7. You need to laugh and cry with other believers through all the ups and downs of life. That can only happen if you're meeting with other believers through a lot of days (Rom. 12:15).

8. God is going to comfort you, often through the words and actions of other believers, and He wants you to pass on the comfort to the believers around you (2 Cor. 1:3-4).

9. If God is your Father, that makes church a family gathering (Phil. 1:2).

10. When you gather with other believers and love them, God's love is made complete in you (1 John 4:12).

See, you need the church, and the church needs you.

It's messy. You'll get hurt by folks sometimes and will be disappointed by them often. But church is God's design, and if you risk going to church, you will bring glory to God and will find your own great joy.

He is my man

Music/RadioCountry Music Singer, Don Williams Dies At 78 by premium9ja(op):
Don Williams, an award-winning country singer with love ballads like “I Believe in You,” has died. He was 78.

A statement from his publicist Kirt Webster said he died Friday after a short illness.

Williams had 17 No. 1 hits before retiring in 2016. His mellow sound influenced a later generation of singers including Joe Nichols and Josh Turner and Keith Urban has said Williams drew him to country music.

Williams, nicknamed “the Gentle Giant,” had a rich voice, gentle delivery and storytelling style. He toured sparingly, did few media interviews and spent much of his time on his farm west of Nashville.

“It’s one of those blessings and curses kind of things,” Williams said in an interview with The Associated Press in 1994. ”If you have the talent, it’s a blessing. But there’s times that ... a lot of the prices that you have to pay to be a part of it is a curse.

But as far as ... the way people have responded to what I’ve done, there’s very few things in my life that I’ve done that come anywhere close to making you feel exhilarated and humbled and fulfilled and challenged and all that, all at the same time.”

His hits included “I Believe in You,” “Lord, I Hope This Day Is Good,” “You’re My Best Friend,” “Some Broken Hearts Never Mend,” “Till the Rivers All Run Dry” and “Back in My Younger Days.” At least one duet with Emmylou Harris made the charts, “If I Needed You” in 1981.

He was also popular overseas, touring in Europe and Africa and charting on British charts. Eric Clapton recorded his “We’re More Than Friends” and Pete Townshend redid his “Til the Rivers All Run Dry.” “Don Williams offered calm, beauty, and a sense of wistful peace that is in short supply these days,” said Kyle Young, CEO of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee, in a statement Friday.

“His music will forever be a balm in troublesome times. Everyone who makes country music with grace, intelligence, and ageless intent will do so while standing on the shoulders of this gentle giant.” He won the Country Music Association’s awards for best male vocalist and best single for “Tulsa Time” in 1978.

During his performances, he often walked onstage carrying a cup of coffee, sat on a barstool, sang and chatted amiably with the audience.

Williams also appeared in the movies “W.W. and the Dixie Dancekings” and “Smokey and the Bandit II.”

Health10 Most Important And Undoubted Reasons Why We Should Stop Abortion by premium9ja(op): 5:18pm On Sep 05, 2017
Living beings come into existence all at once and gradually unfold their world of innate potential. A living human person begins to exist at the moment of conception, even though only as a cell. What is important is not the accident of size or weight but the essence – which is fully human. The unborn baby has a distinct, unchanging and unrepeatable genetic code, unique in all of history, from the moment of conception till death. Nothing is added except nutrition and oxygen.

1) It compounds tragedy.

Sometimes the circumstances surrounding a pregnancy are tragic. Perhaps the woman was raped. Maybe the baby has been diagnosed with a defect. Or the woman’s health might be at risk. However, one tragedy is not answered with another. We do not erase a rape by killing a child. We do not cure a baby by taking his life. And we do not avoid all health issues by avoiding the reality of another human being.

Women who have been raped must be compassionately cared for. But compassionate care does not include executing a woman’s child. Parents facing a difficult prenatal diagnosis must be given real facts and directed to others with helpful experiences. They must not be forced into a quick choice for abortion or urged to take the life of their child instead of giving her a chance to defy the odds. Women with high-risk pregnancies must be treated by real medical professionals. But treatment does not include intentionally killing a child. (If a child dies during the course of treating the woman – i.e., during chemotherapy for cancer, removal of an ectopic pregnancy, etc. – this is not an abortion.)

2) It takes innocent lives.

Science could not be more clear. Unborn human beings are living, separate, and unique. From the moment of fertilization – better known as conception – a new human life is in existence. Ending this life is not ending “potential.” It is ending a life. We would do well to understand the modern science that reveals the humanity of the unborn. (Here is a scientific report, quotes from textbooks, photos, and a video.) Here is an innovative new video series that uses non-graphic medical animation to demonstrate exactly what happens in the different types of abortion. The series also describes the risks each type of abortion poses to women.

3) It violates civil rights.

Civil rights are violated when people are deprived of their basic rights in a discriminatory fashion. Unborn children are deprived of life – the most basic right of all – simply based on their location (their mother’s womb) and their developmental status. This is discriminatory, inhuman, and cruel.

4) It punishes innocent people.

A child does not deserve to die for the crimes of his father. A five-year-old cannot be killed because his father is a rapist. A five-month-old unborn child should not be allowed to be killed for the same reason.

A child does not deserve to die because her mother and/or her father were irresponsible. A child is completely innocent. A child did not decide that his parents would have sex or that they would use ineffective contraception. An unborn child is always innocent and should never be punished.

5) It can harm women.

Real-life stories demonstrate again and again that abortion harms women. Harm comes in a variety of forms – mental, emotional, relational, and physical – and in some cases, women’s lives are lost through abortion. They can also experience the loss of their fertility or an increase in miscarriages after an abortion. To find out more, check out this study, this paper, this compilation of stories, these experiences, and these stories.

6) It is damaging to relationships and families.

Any time a family member dies, the rest of the family is affected. And this is true of abortion. A real, living, irreplaceable child has been killed, and the parents and siblings are damaged. Fathers attempting to stop abortions should read this article. Siblings who need a place to express their pain should go here. And for more information on how abortion damages relationships, read this and this. Many women who abort just to convince their guy to stay with them find that they are left alone anyway, shortly after the abortion. Abortion is never the answer to a successful and loving relationship.

7) It never goes away.

No matter how hard we try, we can never erase what abortion does. Abortion takes – it kills – an innocent human being. Time does not erase murder or ease the reality of what it is. Abortion is a cruel tragedy, but it is also a choice that should never be made. Such a choice stays with us forever.

For anyone who has already participated in abortion, while there is no way to change your past, there is a way to heal from it. Check with your local pregnancy resource center for post-abortion recovery programs. You can also look into Rachel’s Vineyard or Ramah International. Also, check out this sermon by Mark Driscoll, in which he discusses how “Jesus died so murder could be forgiven.” Recovery, hope, and healing are always available.

cool It creates new problems.

Some people believe that having an abortion and ending a child’s life will solve their problems. And in the immediate present, it may appear that the problems have been erased. Perhaps college becomes an easier option, maybe parents never find out that their daughter was pregnant, or possibly an affair remains undiscovered. But in reality, abortion only hides problems – it doesn’t solve them. Many women finish college while still giving life to their babies. Many parents are far more accepting and loving than their daughters believed possible. And the truth is better than a lie, when a lie would cost an innocent person’s life. In the end, that’s what this is really about: our problems are not solved through killing an innocent person. Just because it’s legal doesn’t make it right. And just because it’s often a hidden choice doesn’t mean it won’t stay with you forever.

9) It avoids responsibility.

Abortion is sometimes used as an easy cover-up for a one-night stand or a solution to a relationship gone bad. However, when two adults make the choice to participate in an activity known to create babies, these adults must accept responsibility. Contraception can fail. The best planning can fall apart. But responsibility should not be avoided at the cost of an innocent child’s life.

Responsible people have to make hard choices sometimes. Timing may seem bad, and circumstances might be difficult. But this does not justify killing an innocent person. Choosing to raise a child is responsible. Choosing adoption for a child is responsible. But choosing abortion and denying life to a child who already exists is irresponsibly – and irreparably – wrong.

10) It’s not empowering or liberating for women.

As a woman who considers herself a feminist, I find it appalling that abortion is classified as part of “women’s rights.” It is not my “right” to kill my child. I should not be the only person who has the power to order my child’s execution at the hand of an abortion doctor. Letting my child suffer a death in which her spine is sucked into a tube or her limbs are torn apart or her heart is stopped through poison is not empowering or liberating. These choices ought not to be choices at all. They are cruel tragedies for all involved, and they should not be permitted in a civilized nation. Women do not receive freedom through the blood of their children.

EducationOsinbajo Denies Taking Over ASUU Negotiations by premium9ja(op): 4:00pm On Sep 01, 2017
Reports that Vice President Professor. Yemi Osinbajo has taken over negotiations with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to end the strike is “untrue,” according to his spokesperson Laolu Akande.

Minister of Labour and Employment, Senator Chris Ngige was quoted after the Federal Council Meeting (FEC) on Wednesday to have said Osinbajo will henceforth lead the negotiations with ASUU.

Ngige said, “At Council today, the Vice President has taken over some of the aspects of the negotiations and discussions.”

“So, we are continuing the meeting in his office and when we finish meeting, we will get back to ASUU for another round of meeting and we are hopeful that we will be able to go to an appreciable extent to solve some of the outstanding issues that are preventing them from going back to work.’’

However, early Friday Osinbajo retweeted a tweet by Laolu Akande, his media aide, debunking the reports.

The tweet read: “News reports that VP Osinbajo has taken over ASUU negotiations is untrue & inaccurate. Labour & Education Ministers continue to lead d talks.”

ASUU has been on strike for about two weeks demanding implementation of previous agreements, full payment of salaries and improved government funding of universities.

EducationFG And ASUU Meet Today To Resolve Strike by premium9ja(op): 11:32am On Aug 29, 2017
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, will on Tuesday (today) meet with the President and executive members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities in Abuja to resolve the lingering strike by the union.

A statement from Deputy Director (Press), Ministry of Labour and Employment, Samuel Olowookere, on Monday night, said the government delegation at the meeting would include the ministers of Education and Finance, Chairman, National Income Salaries and Wages Commission, Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission and the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress.

Our correspondent had on Monday reported exclusively that the Federal Government would meet with ASUU leadership this week to resolve the strike which had paralysed academic activities in public universities across the country.

The union leaders were expected to brief the government delegation on the resolutions reached on the offers made by the Federal Government during the last meeting held on August 17, 2017.

“Senator Ngige calls on ASUU to show good faith as the Federal Government had already demonstrated commitment to addressing the grievances of the union,” the statement noted.

CrimeUS Finally Sells N181BN War Planes, Weapons To Nigeria To FIGHT Boko Haram (deta by premium9ja(op): 11:25am On Aug 29, 2017
The Headquarters of the United States Department of Defence, the Pentagon, has informed the US Congress of the sale of 12 Super Tucano A-29 ground attack aircraft and weapons to Nigeria to fight the Boko Haram insurgency.

Reuters reported that the Pentagon communicated the sale of the 12 ground attack aircraft valued at $593m (N181bn) to the US Congress on Monday.

The report quoted Pentagon’s Defence Security Cooperation Agency as having made the announcement to the US legislature.

The Super Tucano A-29, “an agile, propeller-driven plane with reconnaissance and surveillance as well as attack capabilities, is made by Brazil’s Embraer.”

The US had in April, this year, agreed to sell high-tech aircraft to Nigeria to tackle the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.

United States officials told the Associated Press that the Congress was expected to receive formal notification within weeks, setting in motion the deal with Nigeria.

They added that the arrangement would call for Nigeria purchasing up to 12 Embraer A-29 Super Tucano aircraft with sophisticated targeting gear.

The purchase will gulp about $600m, said the officials in April. They were, however, unauthorised to discuss the terms of the sale publicly and preferred anonymity on the diplomatic conversations.

The United States had before this new development, blocked Nigeria from acquiring the Super Tucano ground attack aircraft from Brazil in November, 2016 because of allegations of human rights violations against the Nigerian military.

The PUNCH had reportedly exclusively in November 2016 that the US decided to block the acquisition of the ground aircraft because of its dissatisfaction with measures adopted against those accused of human rights violation in the North-East.

In blocking the nation’s moves to acquire arms and ammunition against the Boko Haram, the US had quoted the Leahy Law which prohibits the US defence sector from providing military assistance to countries involved in human rights violations.

The allegations of rights violation made the US to block the move of the Nigerian Air Force to acquire the Super Tucano as a replacement for the ailing alpha jet platform in the ongoing air onslaught against the Boko Haram.

However, indications emerged in August 2015 when US Congressman Darrel Isah disclosed shortly after a meeting with service chiefs in the country in August 2015 that the US had commenced the process of relaxing the embargo on military assistance to the country under the Leahy Law.

PoliticsNigeria Immigration Bans Cash Payments At Passport Offices… Find Out Why by premium9ja(op): 5:11pm On Aug 28, 2017
As part of efforts to eliminate corruption, the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has banned cash payments for passport processing. Below are important information to applicants in regards to payments, passport processing and more.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has banned cash payments for passport processing as part of its efforts to eliminate corruption at all passport offices nationwide.‎

NIS spokesperson, Sunday James, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Abuja.
He‎ said the Comptroller General of the NIS, Muhammad Babandede, directed that all payments for passport processing must be done online and through designated banks‎.‎

He said the NIS boss, in a circular, directed‎ all passport control officers not to allow cash payments in any of the passport premises.

“All payments in respect to passport processing are to be done by applicants through banks to generate application ID and reference number on the NIS portal and not through an individual or touts,” Mr. James said.

This followed reports exposing entrenched corruption at passport offices, where immigration officials connive with touts to rip off applicants.

According to him, the NIS CG has also ordered an‎ investigation into allegations of passport racketeering at some passport offices in Lagos with a view to sanitizing the system.‎

Mr. James, therefore, urged passport applicants to ensure that all categories of Nigerian passports fees were done online.
‎“Passport applicants are therefore strongly advised to visit the NIS website www.immigration.gov.ng to confirm the approved fees for all categories of Nigerian passports and age groups before making payments,” he added.

He said the management of all passport offices has been directed to paste all information required at the premises to guide applicants in line with the executive orders.

He urged Nigerians to direct any complaint or inquiries to 07080607900 and the email address nis.servicom@nigeriaimmigration.gov.ng.

The spokesperson advised applicants against patronizing touts or agents‎ in order to ensure efficient service delivery.

The NIS boss had vowed to stamp out corruption in the operations of the NIS as part of efforts to reposition the service and ensure efficient service delivery.

EducationStrike Has Not Been Call Off Yet - ASUU President by premium9ja(op): 7:21am On Aug 21, 2017
THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has described as speculative reports that the strike embarked by the union over the inability of the Federal Government to implement the 2009 agreement it willingly entered with the union would be called off today.

ASUU President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, said he was surprised about the reports making the round when the issues tabled before the government had not been resolved.

The ASUU President said: ‘’We have been duly informed of a purported rumour credited to ASUU national secretariat which stated that it has instructed members and students to return to full academic activities next week is in circulation.

“Please this information is totally false. The information is surely a gimmick used by the insensitive government, other disoriented Nigerians and politically hungry individuals to cause confusion amongst ASUU members and Nigeria students.’’

According to him: “A meeting held between the Minister of Labour, Minister of Education and representative of ASUU ended in a deadlock and there was no compromise on our demands. Talks with the relevant government agencies resume this week.’’

Ogunyemi urged Nigerians to disregard and dispel the rumour or any other information being circulated in the social media.

Meanwhile, the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to speak on the prevailing indefinite strike declared by ASUU to ensure that students return to school at the earliest convenience.

NANS president, Comrade Chinonso Obasi, lamented that Nigerian universities were regrettably missing in the recently launched Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

In a statement made available to The Guardian yesterday in Abuja, the students body stated that Nigerian students and youth should be included in decisions making process on issues that concern them to enable them actively participate and contribute to the development efforts of the nation.
