Nairaland / General / How SGF, Babachir Lawal Was Suspended Inside Osinbajo’s Office by presidentMZ: 3:42pm On Apr 21, 2017
Fresh facts have emerged regarding the suspension of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal.

Lawal was meeting with the Vice-President, Yemi Osinbajo, in his office, when the Presidency suspended him.

There are speculations that the embattled SGF, was being advised about the decision and told not to take it personal with President Muhammadu Buhari.

It is understood that Lawal was reportedly suspended, because Buhari is perceived to be losing his fight against corruption, with some of his key appointees facing allegations from several quarters.

Osinbajo also told him pointedly that the outcome of the investigation will determine his fate.

Recall that statement signed by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina and made available to DAILY POST had announced the suspension of the SGF.

The statement reads: “President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered an investigation into the allegations of violations of law and due process made against the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr David Babachir Lawal, in the award of contracts under the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE).

“The President has also directed the suspension of the SGF from office pending the outcome of the investigations.

“In a related development, the President has ordered a full scale investigation into the discovery of large amounts of foreign and local currencies by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a residential apartment at Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos, over which the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) has made a claim.

“The investigation is also to enquire into the circumstances in which the NIA came into possession of the funds, how and by whose or which authority the funds were made available to the NIA, and to establish whether or not there has been a breach of the law or security procedure in obtaining custody and use of the funds.

“The President has also directed the suspension of the Director General of the NIA, Ambassador Ayo Oke, pending the outcome of the investigation.

“A three-man Committee comprising the Hon. Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and the National Security Adviser, headed by the Vice President, is to conduct both investigations.

“The Committee is to submit its report to the President within 14 days.

“The most senior Permanent Secretary in the SGF’s office, and the most senior officer in the NIA, are to act, respectively, during the period of investigation.”

Last month, Lawal insisted he was innocent of the allegations leveled against him over the N1.3billion grass-cutting contract .

President Muhammadu Buhari this afternoon from London spoke to President
Donald Trump on telephone at the request of the American President.

The conversation was cordial and President Buhari congratulated Trump on
his election as President of the United States, and on his cabinet.

The two leaders discussed ways to improve cooperation in the fight against
terrorism through provision of necessary equipment.

President Trump encouraged President Buhari to keep up the good work he is
doing, and also commended him for the efforts made in rescuing 24 of the
Chibok Girls and the strides being taken by the Nigerian military.

President Trump assured the Nigerian President of US readiness to cut a
new deal in helping Nigeria in terms of military weapons to combat
terrorism.
President Trump also invited President Buhari to Washington at a mutually
convenient date.

MMM IS USURY, SEE SURATUL BAQARA VERSE 275, ALLAH MENTION IN THE GLORIOUS QURAN

Those who live on usury will not rise up before Allah except like those who are driven to madness by the touch of Shaitan. That is because they claim: "Trading is no different than usury, but Allah has made trading lawful and usury unlawful. He who has received the admonition from his Rabb and has mended his way may keep his previous gains; Allah will be his judge. Those who turn back (repeat this crime), they shall be the inmates of hellfire wherein they will live for ever.

Religion / Saudi Prince Executed For Murder-shariah Law by presidentMZ: 10:41am On Nov 06, 2016
RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saudi Arabia on Tuesday executed a member of the royal family for murder, in a rare case involving one of the thousands of members of the House of Saud.
Prince Turki bin Saud al-Kabir was put to death in the capital Riyadh for shooting dead Adel al-Mahemid, a Saudi, during a brawl, the interior ministry said in a statement.

Kabir was the 134th local or foreigner put to death this year, according to an AFP tally of ministry statements.
The Arab News reported in November 2014 that a court in Riyadh sentenced an unnamed prince to death for killing his friend.
He lost his life and another person was injured in an exchange of gunfire following a dispute at a camp on the edge of Riyadh in December 2012, the newspaper said.
Desert camps are popular gathering places for Saudis.
When the killer realized that his victim was a friend and colleague, he informed the police, the Arab News said.
The sentence reflected the kingdom’s “fair justice system,” Arab News quoted the victim’s uncle Abdul Rahman al-Falaj as saying.
Most people put to death in Saudi Arabia are beheaded with a sword.
Saudi Arabia has a strict Islamic legal code under which murder, drug trafficking, armed robbery, rape and apostasy are all punishable by death.
Amnesty International says the kingdom carried out at least 158 death sentences in 2015, making it the third most prolific executioner after Iran and Pakistan.
Amnesty’s figures do not include secretive China.
Murder and drug trafficking cases account for the majority of Saudi executions, although 47 people were put to death for “terrorism” on a single day in January.
Rights experts have raised concerns about the fairness of trials in the kingdom but the government says the death penalty is a deterrent.

Nairaland / General / Nigeria’s Economy Still Largest In Africa Despite Recession –IMF by presidentMZ: 10:51pm On Oct 20, 2016
Nigeria’s Economy Still Largest In Africa–IMF
Abuja with agency report, BY BAYO AMODU
— Oct 20, 2016 3:43 am | Leave a comment
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has affirmed Nigeria’s economy as the biggest in Africa, ahead of South Africa and Egypt, despite the economic recession the country is battling with.

Nigeria was reported to have lost its spot as Africa’s biggest economy to South Africa in August 2016, following the recalculation of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

However, the IMF’s World Economic Outlook for October 2016 puts South Africa’s GDP at $280.36 billion, from $314.73 billion in 2015.

Meanwhile, latest estimates from the IMF put Nigeria’s GDP at $415.08 billion, from $493.83 billion at the end of 2015.

Although Egypt’s 2016 data was reported as unavailable, its 2015 size remained at $330.15 billion, while that of Algeria, one of the largest economies on the continent, was put at $168.31 billion.

The United States, China and Japan maintain their spots as the largest economies in the world, ahead of Germany, United Kingdom and France.

According to a review in September, Nigeria’s current economic recession will outlast 2016, with a GDP contraction of 1.7 per cent.

The IMF had predicted that Nigeria’s economy would grow away from a recession in 2017. The country last witnessed a recession, for less than a year, in 1991, and experienced a prolonged one that started in 1982 and lasted until 1984.

The IMF also predicted that the Nigerian economy will grow by 0.6% in 2017, effectively lifting the country out of an officially declared recession. According to the Bretton Woods institution, Nigeria has a marginal lead over South Africa and Egypt in terms of GDP.

In the IMF report released on October 5, Nigeria’s real GDP is expected to increase marginally by 0.6%, with Consumer Prices rising by 17.1%. Also, Fitch ratings on the other hand projected a 2.6% growth in Nigeria’s GDP for 2017.

Beyond 2017, IMF expects global growth to gradually increase by 3.8% in 2021. This recovery in global activity, which is expected to be driven entirely by emerging market and developing economies, is premised on the normalization of growth rates in countries like Nigeria, Russia, South Africa, Latin America and parts of the Middle East.

Although the global rating agency had reduced its forecast for the country’s 2016 GDP growth to 1% from 1.5% due to weak performance in the first half of the year, Fitch believes the economy will bounce back in 2017, but with downside risks if dollar liquidity remains tight.

Furthermore, Fitch believes that dollar liquidity will not significantly improve until market participants become more comfortable with the sustainability of the exchange-rate level, which is likely to require further narrowing of the spread between the official and parallel market rates.

The rating agency also increased Nigeria’s average Consumer Price Index (CPI) forecast for 2016 to 14% from 11% and expects the government to secure financing from multilateral development banks and bilateral sources.http://leadership.ng/news/cover-stories/555298/nigerias-economy-still-largest-in-africa-imf

Politics / Re: Herdsmen Attack: Buhari's Silence Fueling Continous Attack- Christian Group Says by presidentMZ: 11:10am On Sep 07, 2016
Professor of Islamic Eschatology, Director of Muslim Rights Concern, Ishaq Akintola, has unleashed a scathing attack on the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), branding them 'hypocrites'.

In an interview with Punch, Akintola called CAN's
criticism of US Secretary of State John Kerry's
meeting with Northern Governors and the Sultan of Sokoto 'infantile' and 'laughable'.

He added that the influx of Western leaders visiting The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations in Lagos has never been criticized by Muslim leaders, who actually embrace the development such visits bring for the country and its image internationally.

“Why would the Muslim community raise any
eyebrow if (John) Kerry or any other Western figure attends a Christian conference or night vigil,” he questioned.

“What have the Muslims ever said about Westerners and their leaders attending TB Joshua’s Synagogue? We see it as a good development, a foreign exchange earner and a return match.”

Akintola referred to statistics released by the
Nigerian Immigration Service which revealed that six out of every ten foreigners visiting Nigeria are
bound for TB Joshua´s popular Lagos based church,
perhaps the most prominent Nigerian ministry that
is not a member of CAN.

Adding that Kerry “did not come with a religious
agenda but a humanitarian one”, he questioned the
motives of CAN President Dr. Supo Ayokunle´s
allegations as Kerry´s primary discussions were
based on aid for Boko Haram victims.

“The CAN has a way of biting off one’s nose and
complaining aloud later about one’s inability to
smell. The CAN will cut off one’s two hands and still
goes ahead to complain when one fails to shake
hands with them... The CAN should be advised to
stop behaving like the second wife in a polygamous
home.”

The fiery Muslim Professor even quoted the Holy
Bible in sharing his disdain for Nigeria´s foremost
Christian body.

“CAN is not upholding the tenets of Christianity. CAN
is deceiving Nigerians. But most Nigerians know the
truth and the truth has set them free.

My sympathy
goes to those who accept CAN’s abracadabra. The
Bible says, 'You will know the truth, and the truth
will set you free'."
