Politics › Katsina Group Hails Matawalle For Eliminating Bandit Leader Abu Saleh by PressMyButton(op): 7:10am On Nov 27, 2024
The Concerned Citizens of Jibia Local Government Area (CCJ) in Katsina State have lauded the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, for the successful operation that led to the elimination of notorious bandit leader Abu Saleh and his group.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Muhammad Magayaki, the CCJ attributed the breakthrough to the minister’s proactive leadership and a visit to Sokoto in September that invigorated military operations across the region.

“This remarkable achievement highlights the unwavering dedication of the Nigerian Armed Forces under the directives of Honourable Bello Matawalle,” the statement read. “We commend the courage and resilience of our minister and pray for Almighty God to continue guiding and strengthening him in his mission to eradicate criminal elements.”

The CCJ highlighted the minister’s role in directing intensified security efforts across Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara, and Niger states, emphasizing his clear mandate to neutralize bandit groups before the year ends. According to the group, these efforts have led to the elimination of approximately 80% of notorious bandits in the region.

Magayaki also praised Matawalle’s decision to visit forests and other high-risk areas personally, a move that has inspired frontline troops and improved operational outcomes. “This hands-on approach marks a turning point in the fight against banditry and demonstrates the Minister’s exceptional commitment to restoring peace and security in affected regions,” he said.

The CCJ described the minister’s leadership style as unprecedented and called on the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to maintain their momentum in ongoing operations. The group expressed confidence in Matawalle’s ability to restore lasting peace to the region, citing his resolute stance and direct involvement in security affairs.

The commendation comes amid intensified government efforts to combat banditry, which has plagued northwestern Nigeria for years. These efforts, which include ground and aerial operations, have reportedly weakened bandit networks, creating optimism among affected communities.

The elimination of Abu Saleh, who was accused of leading violent raids and kidnappings, is seen as a significant victory in the campaign against banditry. His death is expected to disrupt the operations of his faction and deter other criminal elements in the region.

The CCJ reaffirmed its support for the minister and the Nigerian Armed Forces, urging them to sustain the current momentum and ensure that peace is fully restored in Katsina State and other affected areas.

As the year draws to a close, the group expressed hope that the minister’s vision of a bandit-free northwest will soon become a reality, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s fight against insecurity.

Politics › Bayo Onanuga Knocks Obasanjo As Port Harcourt Refinery Resumes Operation by PressMyButton(op): 6:41am On Nov 27, 2024
The Presidency has knocked former President Olusegun Obasanjo following news of that trucks have started loading Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at the Port Harcourt refinery.

In 2023, Obasanjo expressed the belief that Nigeria’s refineries won’t work as long as they were controlled by government.

He also stated that based on information he got from Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) about the refineries, effort by President Bola Tinubu to get them running by December 2024 won’t be successful.

“Today, we are still where we were. Someone told me Tinubu said refineries would work by December. I told the person the refineries would not work. This is based on the information I received from Shell when I was the president,” he told The Cable.

Reacting, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, reminded Obasanjo that “only Almighty God possesses the divine authority to declare what is achievable or not.”
He said this in a post on X , titled, ‘Never Say Never: A Lesson For All Mortals,’ as the Port Harcourt refinery began operations, producing petroleum products against all odds and skepticism.”

He said the development serves as a profound reminder to all of humanity, including Nigeria’s former leaders, that perseverance, determination, and faith in our capabilities can overcome even the harshest challenges.

Let us learn from this moment that limits are often set by our own doubts, and with collective effort and unwavering resolve, we can bring about the change we seek, Onanuga concluded.

Politics › Kaduna Refinery’s Fix Ready By December — MD by PressMyButton(op): 4:12pm On Nov 25, 2024
The Managing Director of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), Dr. Mustafa Sugungun has said that the ongoing Quick Fix Project for the Kaduna refinery is scheduled for completion by the end of 2024.

Recall that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) awarded a $741m contract to South Korea’s Daewoo Engineering & Construction to rehabilitate the Kaduna Refinery.

Under the quick-fix repair contract, the firm will be responsible for restoring production at the 110,000 barrels-a-day facility to at least 60 per cent of its capacity by the end of 2024.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony of the renovated Rido Community Primary School and a solar-powered borehole in Maraban Rido, Kaduna State, as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, he emphasised the company’s commitment to improving the living standards of its host communities.

The MD, who was represented by the Manager Operations, Mr. Emmanuel Ajiboye noted that the success of the Quick Fix Project will bring immense economic benefits, job opportunities, boost petty trading, and fostering other local businesses.

He said, the school renovation aims to provide a conducive learning environment for pupils and teachers, while the borehole is expected to address water scarcity in the community while reaffirming KRPC’s dedication to sustainable development through initiatives like youth empowerment, rural electrification, periodic medical outreach, and other community-focused programs.

He urged the Rido community to support the ongoing Quick Fix Project, noting that its success would further strengthen the relationship between KRPC and its host communities.

In her remarks, the Head Teacher of Rido Primary School, Mrs. Rachael Aduwak commended KRPC for the good gesture.

She also appealed to the company to construct a perimeter fence for the school, adding, “We appeal to KRPC to furnish our classes with tables, chairs, and chalkboard as most of our students are sitting on bare floors during class hours.”

Politics › FG, Brazilian Firm Sign Deal To Invest In Nigeria’s $2.5Bn livestock Sector by PressMyButton(op): 9:21pm On Nov 22, 2024
The federal government has signed a letter of intent with the JBS S.A, a top global meat processing company, for investment in Nigeria’s $2.5 billion livestock sector.

According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, presidential spokesperson, President Bola Tinubu witnessed the signing ceremony on November 21, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Speaking at the event, Tinubu said his administration’s focus to boost investments into the livestock sector will address farmer-herder conflicts, eradicate hunger, and poverty, and promote economic prosperity.

“What we are doing right now is that we are solving a problem that afflicted humanity in that part of Africa, clashes between farmers and migrating cows that have caused some life and bloodshed when there is a modern, civilized way to solve those problems and even bring a successful economy out of it,” he said.

“We are trying to turn a situation of tragedy, hopelessness into economic opportunity, see through problems and see the opportunity that is involved in it.”

Given JBS S.A’s internationally renowned competence in ensuring food security, Tinubu urged the company to identify the significant potential in Nigeria’s “$2.5 billion livestock investment opportunities”, particularly given its large population.

“We’ve heard so much about you in terms of the reputation, and we believe in the partnership we are forging today,” Tinubu said.

“Food security is extremely important. As we talk right now, there is hunger. However, there is huge hope. And you are one of those hopes that we are looking at.”

The president told the company’s top executives that Nigeria is ready to do business with them, assuring a positive return on their investment.

In his remarks, Idi Mahia, minister of livestock development, who led the delegation, told the president that the team conducted a comprehensive tour of global companies, showcasing their scale, integrated operations, and advanced technology deployment.

He added that from their interactions with various companies, JBS S.A. was selected, being the second largest meat processing company in the world, with the capacity to process 33,000 cattle daily and over eight million birds daily, using advanced zero-waste practices.

Wesley Batista, founder and president of the JBS Group, said the company is Brazil’s largest employer of workers, generating over $79 billion in revenue already in 2024.

“We are glad to work with Nigeria to work together to develop the livestock industry there. We think it’s a good opportunity for our business in Nigeria and Africa as we believe Nigeria can be the center of supply of protein to many countries in Africa,” he said.

Batista said the company hopes to be in Nigeria as soon as possible.

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has challenged a court ruling that banned the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from disbursing monthly allocations to his state.

The Nigerian government recently confirmed that it has stopped the October monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) revenue payment to the state.

According to the Spokesperson of the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, on Friday, the decision to stop the payment was made in respect of a court order.

Meanwhile, Fubara’s legal team, led by Mr. Yusuf Ali, SAN, has filed a motion at the Court of Appeal in Abuja, seeking to overturn the ruling.

The ruling, issued by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court on October 30, was made in response to a lawsuit filed by the faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Hon. Martins Amaewhule. The lawsuit sought to stop the CBN from releasing funds to the state, citing Fubara’s refusal to present the state’s 2024 Appropriation Bill as directed by the court.

Governor Fubara, however, has argued that the Amaewhule-led faction had ceased to be legitimate lawmakers after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Fubara’s appeal, registered as CA/ABJ/CV/1303/2024, was considered alongside five additional appeals stemming from the same case.

The ruling date will be communicated later.

And you're thinking the Nigerian government can stand insecurity in the Niger Delta? The last time small happened Buhari had to send Osibanjo for peace talks. The Niger Delta isn't the South West o.. Even after Obasanjo committed the massacre in Odi. Did they stop?

Yaradua brought about the peace today in the Niger Delta, if Tinubu wants insecurity and reduced revenue, he is welcome.

You're the one with low or no understanding at all. Is it all the court orders that Tinubu's government has obeyed?

I'm telling you that no single state has received FAAC allocation yet, you expect me to take the words of the spokesman of the AG?

The AG should come out and say it himself.

I will repeat myself, when they pay the FAAC allocation of the 35 other states without paying Rivers State that's when we'll know it has been stopped.
And when FAAC meet to collect their allocations for October, Fubara won't receive one Kobo from LG's share, based off on a court order, that's what the office of AG is telling you but an illiterate is on Nairaland arguing blindly.
